Black #1 Comicsheatingup.net Variant

Comicsheatingup.net is proud to announce their exclusive variant for Black Mask Studios comic Black #1. The Black and White Comicsheatingup.net variant is limited to 250 copies.
Black is a what if story, What If only black people had superpowers. Think of the X-Men Tag Line “In a world that fears and hates them.” We have been covering the book since before it was picked up by Black Mask, in fact, Mel spotlighted it as a Future Hits From the Kick(starter) book many months ago.

I am doing these differently than previous variants. Since I am not looking forward to packing  and shipping  250 comics. Kevin Fields at Frankie’s Comics had been kind enough to help out and will be doing the shipping for me.
The Books are listed for $10 plus shipping and can be purchased here, but if you use the coupon code CHU you save $2 per copy.
That’s $2 off if you buy 1 copy $40 off if you buy 20 copies or $500 off if you buy all 250 copies. The price will not increase as the stock gets lower. I wanted to do a low price variant to get this book into readers and collectors hands (hopefully flippers hands too.)
With the success of the all black cover for Black #1 Baltimore Variant, we hope this will continue the heat.
Help support the site!
And now for the rest of the story
I had originally got in contact with Black Mask through a friend who asked the question for me, could we do an all black variant with no trade dress. We didn’t hear back for a little bit and then Matt Pizzollo emailed us saying they were using the same concept for the Baltimore Variant. They sent several other covers for me to pick over but I wasn’t really into the design.  I still wanted to do one using simple color (black and white) showing the tension between the two. So at the Diamon Retailer Summit I pulled out my phone and mocked up the cover. Half black, half white, with a blood red logo in between (of course I just colored red over where the logo would go). Black Mask took the idea and made the cover for me. So I had come up with the design and in some way got to do art direction on the cover (cool.) In fact, if you look on the listing, you will see a familiar name as cover artist.

  1. Great deal here Anthony ! Considering Fried Pie has B&w variant limited to 50 copies for 50.00 each…ouch ! These should go quickly……

    1. I think it reminds me of a scarface image. Minus the figure. I was going for the subtle racial tensions that have been going on but they actually toned down my design a tad.

      1. Thanks bud. The CBSI crew helped make that a reality, Treys amazing. I was shocked when I saw $3000 was raised.

    1. The come out October 5th. Kevin has a UK shipping partner, this is why I didn’t want to do the shipping on the book and why I am paying kevin to do it. He has the connection

  2. You’re the first website I check every morning and as soon as I saw this I had to order one. I’ve ordered regular comics from midtown or other sites like that, but I’ve never really gone after these special run variants–only started collecting again about 1 1/2 ago, stopped reading comics about 1995 a after collecting X-Men Vol 1 like every other 10 year old in the world at the time. I had to add it to my collection just because it was a comicsheatingup.net variant–your site has served to reignite the excitement of collecting, reading (and flipping) comics again. Thanks for releasing it, looking forward to getting it, it will be one of the nicest books in my growing collection downstairs in my small work room…where none of my 3 kids an find it, ha. Thanks again!

      1. Yeah, it’s all CHU’s fault for my addiction. I doubt I would be this involved with comics if I never found this site.. thanks Anthony, where do I send the bill to cover all my comic books? 😛

  4. I was gonna order but again shipping to Canada bursts my bubble because it’s so expensive. On one hand I miss out on great stuff, on the other I save money… I wish I didnt have to save so much money :p

  5. I’ve been anticipating this book for a couple months and now we’re getting a CHU variant? Yes please! I grabbed a copy. Thanks Tony!

  6. Thanks for giving us CHU peeps an opportunity to get in on this new Black Mask series, great cover, great price! Mucho appreciated, got me 1!

  7. Just got my 2 copies. I just hope Blackmask can keep this series on a regular schedule, not like so many of their other titles.

  8. I think that Black #1 Baltimore con is the way to go with only 99 issued. That all black cover in 9.8 is going to be ultra rare.

    1. Probably. However, not everyone at Baltimore, myself included, was able to get one. They went quick. They sold out on Friday. I tried to do something a little similar and do it at a price point everyone would think is approachable. $8 for a limited to 250 copy book. 25 left. Some people other than me thought this was a good idea.

    2. Ultra rare doesn’t always mean ultra valuable though. Let’s just hope the book is good and takes off…. cause to be honest, Black Mask is on my list of publishers I’m not caring so much for with their delays and other tactics they use to sell books.

  9. New guy here, just ordered two! Just wanted to say thanks to Anthony and everyone else for all the great insight and advice you provide, as well as all the hard work put into maintaining the site. Really looking forward to reading this series!

  10. Thanks for the exclusive. Got 2. Hope Black Mask hits it out of the park again with this one. WCNGH was great. Looking forward to a great read. By the way, anyone looking for a great indie should read “The killer inside me.” Really liked the 1st issue.

  11. Out of curiosity, why does a guy name Kevin run Frankie’s Comic? Shouldn’t the store name be Kevin’s Comics?
