Wednesday Winner: Love is Love One Shot

It is nice to go into stores on Wednesday and pick up your comics. It is even nicer to go in and pick up your comics and have a book selling for multiple times cover price by the wend of the day. Love is Love One shot is one of them.
We had this one on our Picks of the Week where we said:

A joint production of IDW and DC Comics. celebrating the LGBTQ community. Not a book that would normally be on the picks of the week here. However, News has it that Harry Potter makes his first comic book appearance in the book. Coupled with a high price point, and subject some shops may stay away from, and you could have a win. Not to mention, Potter-heads are nuts for Potter related things. Sold out at TFAW and Mycomicshop, none on eBay at the moment.

Needless to say, the first comic appearance of Harry Potter, coupled with the higher price, as well as the potential that stores under ordered it have driven prices on Love is Love One shot up to $39.95 (feel bad for the person who listed and sold it for $9.99 after all the high sales.) Eight copies have sold on eBay, mostly averaging $25, with only one copy currently listed as an auction, currently at $21.50.
Might be worth a trip out to your local comic shops to pick up a copy.

  1. It’s surprising the Harry Potter franchise hasn’t been done yet. Anyone know why? Seems a sure thing for DC or Marvel. Not Dynamite though…isn’t a property popularity peaked in 1957.

  2. There’s 3 copies on ebay listed for 15.94 with free shipping. Makes it affordable since the book is 9.99. I am sure the seller accounted for that in his listing.

    1. That is disappointing when copies are selling for twice that. But undercutters do their thing once a market has been set. Instead of creating a new floor for the price they create a new ceiling.

    2. I just looked and didn’t see the ones you were talking about. I used love is love, love is love IdW, love is love charity, and love is love Harry Potter.

  3. Only one on eBay UK, £39.95 BIN or BO. Well played fella (he is a subscriber here!) May try to get to Brighton to get a copy or two, may have a chance there as its the unofficial gay capital of UK, so they may have ordered a few more copies than elsewhere, but won’t be until next week…

  4. Hit up a small shop that orders pretty much every indie title and they had a few left. All in perfect condition. I read that a 2nd print is already coming, so it may be worth slabbing one of these

  5. Got one. Going to list it to see where it goes. Couple of shops that I called around including the one I go to, didnt even get the solicitation papers for the book so they weren’t even able to order any. The place where I got mine from is a big supporter of gays and lesbians. ( not that anyone cares, but he has a transsexual person working with him. Nice guy). I used to do a lot of business with him till I moved.

  6. I called my main store and got 3 copies put aside for me. I’m going tomorrow to get them, and will see if there is more. Also, I’ve been talking with an eBay customer and he said, still checking his sources, that the publisher said that every copy shipped was a 2nd print. The first prints were barcoded wrong, and that it is complete conjecture as to if any 1st prints will ever see the light of day. I’m still investigating this, so take it with a grain of salt.

  7. my retailer printed out the notice they got. everything jcluu said above is right. 1st prints have a barcode error which say 2nd prints, so they printed another round and shipped those yesterday. they are also doing a third print but they didn’t say whether the actual 1st prints will ever ship and they said retailers are welcome to return the ones they got this week if they wanted and apologized for the error.

  8. so the question is if they never ship the 1st print bar code error version, are these 2nd prints actually 1st prints then?

    1. I have been having a conversation on eBay. What I am hearing is all copies released were “second prints”. No idea what is up with the first prints.

  9. I’ve been in contact with my most reliable LCS, who have 3 copies reserved for me, and I’ve asked them to contact their Diamond Rep and see if it possible to return a 2nd print in exchange for a ‘restickered’ 1st print. I’ll post what the Rep says when I hear back.

    1. I’m totally confused ?
So the ones in the comic shop are second prints posted out in error for the first prints? The “true” first prints still to be stickered are coming out later? So from a spec point of view, the ones that are in the LCS now won’t be as desirable as the restickered first prints? This is to anyone who can answer not just jclu007. My head hurts ?

      1. It seems to be the perfect storm. They apparently printed 2nd prints earlier than usual, and when the barcode error was discovered, there were 1st and 2nd prints ready to go with the 2nds being shipped to fill the orders of the 1st prints. I would imagine that if the 1sts ever make it to the general public, that they would be more desirable. But if the 1sts have the same barcode as the 2nds, then the only difference would be the sticker. I’m sure the true identity of this will be revealed in time. It’s a sh!t show until then, and anyone’s guess is as good as the next guys.

      2. We are not sure if the first prints will ever hit the stores. They are reprinting the book again (third print, or second released print) the message from Diamond mentioned re-stickered, which to me sounds like they are putting a new bar code over the first prints, which might also say second print on the inside cover. So there is that.

      1. So, just got off the phone with my ‘reliable’ LCS who I had asked to contact their Diamond Rep about returning a 2nd print for a restickered 1st print. They informed me that if I want to exchange a 2nd for a 1st, if they ever get one, that would be okay, but they aren’t going to return any books to Diamond as it is a charity book and they are supporting the charity.

  10. Just got to the LCS in Brighton that’s put a couple of copies by for me. These were in store last week for new comic book day. They have a sticker on the bar code on the back cover, indicating to me that these are the restickered first prints. Then on the inside they definitely state they are first prints. When I get home I’ll put up a couple of photos, this may help the issue or just make it more confusing ?
