Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 4/19/17

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 4/19/17:

Not a small week this week. Tons of good books. Not all spec picks, but a lot of good books.
Returning Favorites
Beauty #14 – This is one of Images real hidden gems. Do not see people talking about it but it is an awesome book.
Black Hammer #8 – Jeff Lemire is killing it on this book. If you haven’t read it, stop what you are doing and go pick up the back issues. Best superhero book on the market.
Black Science #29 – Do not kid yourself, this book will get optioned. Rick Remender is the hottest creator on the market that people do not seem t pay attention to him other than for Seven to Eternity.
Curse Words #4 – This is just a fun read. Puts the fun back in “funny books.” Not for everyone as some people seem annoyed by the book.
Descender #21 – One of the best reads on the market. Sony optioned a long time ago, need more news on that.
God Country #4 – Donny Cates is writing his own ticket to stardom. One of many books by him I need to pick up this week, including the fourth print for #1, they look awesome with the black and white cover.
Harley Quinn # 18 Frank Cho cover – cheeky fun take on the character. She is looking at her new outfit in the store window.
Low #17 – This month I am picking up the Eric Powell variant. Awesome book and an awesome cover.

The “Good Read” Pick
Nick Fury #1 – Man, I had the chance to flip through this one earlier today and it was awesome. The art completely captures that psychedelic, pop art style, that the original Nick Fury Shield series by Jim Steranko had. Normally I do not bother with Marvel books, but the art is incredible on this one.

The “It Worked Once” One
Trump vs. Hillary Uncivil War #1 Inaugural Variant – The last one the came out did well, the Incredible Hulk Cover swipe one. Here is another Homage cover featuring the Presidential candidates.
The Small Press Gem
Plastic #1 – over the top violence mixed with a bazaar love story involving a sex doll….. Weird but awesome story.
The Pick of the Week #1
Redneck #1 – Donny Cates is writing his own ticket… oh I already said that. This book is an awesome read, but don’t kid yourself, after God Country, everyone will be picking it up. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t though. This book is already selling on eBay for $12.99.
The Pick of the Week #2
Batman #21 International and B Covers – This book is worth the pick up. People will be getting the lenticular covers like crazy. However, the paper quality sucks and these are much thinner than the previous lenticular covers. Also, there is a lot of static in these books, don’t rip the pages. The ones that will probably be the winners are the less ordered alternate covers.
And in case you missed it, here is this weeks New Comic Spec Review Video for 4/19/17

  1. Plastic is the book that I can’t wait to read. I just want to see where the writer is taking this story.

    1. Plastic looks so crazy. I was on the fence about ordering it out of previews but went ahead and did it. When I brought my order to the shop he laughed and said he already ordered me one.

      1. You are labels simply as “weirdo” on your comic pull box. Hey we got this book in that I don’t know what to do with. I know, put it in weirdo’s box.

  2. I think Redneck will be under ordered for demand, Cates was starting to heat up when this was in Previews. Maybe not like God Country but if this is good and it’s an ongoing that comes out on time, this could be a long term winner!

    1. I think it is going to be a winner, but I think the stores may have caught on. I hope I am wrong. I have a few of these on order

    1. Not sure why or how but have heard a few people put off by it. Calling it stupid. I am a big fan of both creators so I love it.

  3. The paper is really bad on the lenticular cover, hopefully they all won’t be that bad.

  4. don’t forget about the flash #21 as well. the only variant I didn’t get of batman #21 was the lenticular cover as it was sold out from my sources . and now because I must be slipping in my old age I need to seek out plastic #1 as it sounds amazing happy 420 blind adam out
