Poyo's Picks of the Week for June 14th, 2017

It’s that time again, when we think we know what we’re talking about and tell the masses what we think they should be reading, spec’ing and buying. And yes, your conspiracy thoughts are true, I’m actually an agent for the publishers to secretly make you buy more crap so we get richer while you spend all your poor hard earned cash on worthless paper with ink splattered over it to form pictures. So there you have it, the beans have been spilled and yet you will still find yourself buying more and more comics because you are weak.
No worries, I’m not only an agent but a member as I spend all my money on books as well.
In other news, I’m all booked up for NY Comic Con. So be there or don’t be there, won’t matter to me. Actually, don’t go, that just means more Con Exclusive covers for me to sell to those who missed out at a inflated premium price.
Okay, enough of my ramblings.. .. It’s now on with the Poyo Picks, the only picks you shall need!
DC/Vertigo
Last week was a Looney Tune pick and well, this week, I find myself right back in that situation because it’s one of my most favorite Looney Tune characters ever, Marvin the Martian. Even if the story sucks, the covers are great. So this weeks pick goes to the Martian Manhunter Marvin The Martian Special #1.

Marvel Pick
There’s a Venom #151 Francesco Mattina Mary Jane Venom cover that looks promising but I’m betting on Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows #8 Regular Cover by Stegman. The all black cover is just a sick looking cover. Even though I hate the recycling of characters with other characters, this one is a possible spec winner. This is the type of cover fans that aren’t even fans yet weeks or years from now will be seeking out for their collections. Buy some, hold them.. long term even. I think this will be a quick flip potential, it’ll simmer down but over time it will continue to hold steady.

Small Publisher Pick
There are a few Image number ones hitting stands this week but AfterShock puts out enough books nowadays with several hits lately to be considered worthy as a small publisher, not an indie publisher. So with that in mind and pushing aside the potential #1’s Image is releasing (which are all hit or miss it seems, either they hit it off and take off or they just disappear after issue 2 or 3 to never return) this pick goes to the mastermind behind Preacher and The Boys, which would be Garth Ennis’s new series Jimmy Bastards. Can’t overlook at new Ennis ongoing book so it’s definitely worth a check out.

Indie Pick
Mindbender #2 (Scout Comics) – We all know what happens with #2 books, they fall in print run which means they are harder to find thus causing a chain reaction in value when demand picks up. So this could happen on this new series from Scout, as most online retailers are already showing they are out of stock for this book.

Now for my shameless plug. I spent all my money on booking NYCC like I mentioned before so for those that missed out on the hot new God Country series, I have a few auctions up now that include issues 1-5, all but one of them has multiple printings of #1, which includes Cover A 1st print, 2nd and 3rd print in the lots. So buy my stuff, so I can buy more stuff at NYCC. Plus Anthony said I had to buy all his drinks I think.. so please help me raise funds for booze and liquor outings when the con doors have closed on the city that never sleeps. You can find the God Country listings by my ebay id agentpoyo (big surprise right) or by clicking here: on Poyo’s Auctions
That’s all for the picks until next week. Hate them, love them. I’m still gonna sleep well tonight.
