I bought two. I didn’t like the McKone headshot covers, but this one is nice. Also, I hadn’t pre-ordered Legacy, and I’m still skeptical about the event overall…
It’s been interesting to refresh the page and watch their numbers run up. 1,238 sold. This is clearly a great promotional vehicle for MCS! I wonder what their print run is….

Yeah .. if my math is right, it’s selling roughly 27 an hour .. I need to have my own Variant made .. I wonder what it costs .. ??
Anthony could probably tell you the costs of doing your own variant but first of all, MCS already has a ton of money and selling these at $5.99 + free shipping (at least $2.00 for media mail), I’d imagine they’re likely banking about $1.00 to $2.00 profit per book after they pay all the overhead costs, employees who pack these up, etc. Probably more marketing than making money for them.
If the book is a 3000-5000 run, even at a buck net profit, that’s not a bad chunk of change, at least where I come from ..
For sure… If your doing it solo… But MyComicShop is huge, one must realize theyre paying hourly wages to employees… So 5-10k revenue off a book… Is chump change for them. But its smart…. Offer your variant book at half your intended list price or so, offer free shipping… You move a whole lot more inventory rather than sit on the books for weeks, months or even years.
This is a 5k print run which, with art, cost them $10,000-$11,000 dollars. I can ship first class for $2.77 for one book. At $11k the cost per book is $2.20 leaving $1.02 profit. But consider eBay is also sponsoring this so I would imagine they pay no fees on the sale of the books.
