Doomsday Clock #1 Review and Spoilers

Doomsday Clock #1 is out this Wednesday from DC Comics. It is the event people have been waiting for since Rebirth hit. It marks the return of the Watchmen. This is going to be a big book, of course, as people will want to pick up the continuation of the Watchmen story. Please note, spoiled images are concealed behind the spoiler warnings, click the spoiler image to see the images. The accompanying text is not redacted, so proceed only if you are good with spoilers:
The story is broken down in three parts; Rorschach’s story, the impending nuclear crisis, and finally Clark Kent’s story.
The world has gone to hell. The US is in a time of turmoil. The overall background story is that Russia is set to invade Poland. With that being said, the President of the United States is ready to use any means necessary to stop this from happening. This ties in with the original Watchmen’s nuclear doomsday clock theme and plot line.
Rorschach is going to a prison to get one of two new villains out of jail, for his partner, in order to get her to help him “find god.” She want’s her husband sprung as well, he is also a new villain and very interesting.

They seem to have a bit of history together… and we do find out this is not a returning Rorschach from the Watchmen (Dr. Manhattan killed him).

We find out who the mysterious partner is, he is referenced several times, and it is the return of another Watchmen character.

And he is not doing too well.

From there, Clark Kent is introduced in the story. We get some background information on his youth, nothing ground breaking, but see the death of Ma and Pa Kent. This leads to Clark having a restless night.

Which will obviously lead to more…

So that is it. Nothing groundbreaking in the first issue, but this story is going to be a long burn and worth the read. The art by Gary Frank fits with the art of the original Watchmen. The panel breakdowns, many pages have 9 panels, keeps the original feel of the book. I cannot wait for the story to unfold.
