Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 2/28/18

Each week tons of new comics hit the stands, each with potenital. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for deliver 2/28/18:
Crazy big week. Let’s get into it.

Returning Favorites

Redneck #10 – Donnie Cates star is shining more than ever. This is one of the books that put him on the map. Sure, it is coming out slower now he is at Marvel, but still a good read.
Backways #3 – A little anime in art style, but this book is a really good read. Justin Jordan is a fantastic writer and can pull off so many different genres.
Because Artgerm
Mera Queen Of Atlantis #1 Artgerm variant – Artgerm is a wonderful guy in person. i love his art. He has his fans. This one will be heavily ordered so do not go cray on it, but do grab one for the personal collection
For the Cover Collector
All New Wolverine #31 Hulk Smash Variant (available on eBay) – This one will not be a great flip, it is only selling for a little over cover right now, however, fans and collectors of Hulk #181 homage covers will want to grab one. All stores will not qualify for this so it may be hard to fins in shops come tomorrow morning.
One to Watch
Thanos #15 2nd Print (available on eBay) – this one is trending up a little in the recent closed sales, but not much. However, Cosmic Ghost Rider is hot and this cover features his mug squarely on the cover. Marvel 2nd prints have been doing well lately.
Small Press Pick of the Week
Alisik Fall #1 – Small week for indies but this one stands out. Will be a hit with the Hot Topic crowd and that can be a good thing for secondary market sales.
Controversial pick of the Week
Spawn 283 Mattina cover (available on eBay) – there was a little controversy over this one online this week, however, the book is still selling for good money. Don’t break the bank grabbing one, but this is a good flip at the moment.
Pick of the Week
Amazing Spiderman #794 2nd Print (available on eBay) – Now these could totally drop in value tomorrow. However, the book is already selling steadily for $15. Expect an undercutter wave coming in which could lower the price. But all the same, grab one or two if you see them as some stores do not bother ordering second prints.

Well, that is it for this week, let us know what you are spec-ing on. If you haven’t seen it, here is this week’s New Comic Spec Review Video

  1. I had some of those Spawn ‘ s in my cart at Mycomicshop and I watched them disappear right before my eyes. I just ended up with one each.

  2. What’s the Spawn controversy? Something real or another Bleeding Cool imagined slight against a grievance group?

    1. From what I understamd, a couple online retailer partners bought out Diamond and Midtown upon hearing the news that the cover was being changed to Mattina. Said retailers then went on certain spec sites and pumped up the book, knowing it was sold out at the distributor level (because they bought them all). A few days later the said retailers started selling the books at an inflated price. I just read that the retailer who was pulling the shenanigans received an email today from Midtown saying his order of 94 books, which he was preselling on ebay at the inflated price, was reduced to 1 per customer. So, it kinda came back to bite him as he now wont have the copies to deliver that he pre sold. lmao

      1. I think any retailer reserves the right to limit any of their books to 1 per customer. I have no issue with that.

      2. In this case, I’ll actually side with Midtown as well. I think the buying online is a little different when it comes to clearing the shelves as I’ll buy more than 1 myself at times but I also respect if they want to limit it to give others a chance at getting their copy as well.
Now if this was a week after the release day, Midtown should lift the 1 per customer limit. But by then why would anyone buy 94 copies? After a week if there’s that many copies left, by all means, if I was a retailer my goal is to move product off the shelves. 1 person or 100, a week later it would no longer matter to me in how they’re sold.

        1. Midtown limited the orders to one copy each for their orders. Not getting into the controversy or taking sides. But I did see a post saying their orders got limited.

      3. I agree with Midtown, as long as they had the limit before that’s fine, but to change it after he already placed the order and after the news about the comic broke. It seems just as bad as what the other guy pulled.

  3. I’m speccing HARD on Thanos #16. I’ve got one of each issue of Cates run and it’ll make a nice and tidy set as the book hopefully grows in popularity—cosmic ghost rider is getting his own limited series too even!

    1. It will be interesting to see if retailers up’d their Thanos orders after how hot 13 and 14 were.

      1. As usual the retailers aren’t paying attention to market trends. Thanos #16 sold out and 2nd print coming

    2. Cosmic Ghost Rider Book – has that been confirmed? No wonder my set is selling like a french made hot cake. Go figure!
