One Year Later: Spec Review for 3/15/17

What up CHUllectors!?! Shawn B., the One Year Later Investigator,  back with another One Year Later round up, where we take a look at some of the comics that Anthony, Mel, Terry and Poyo specced on one year ago. Their specs turn out to be quick flips, slow burns, straight up misses, straight up winners and on and on. Sometimes they spec with their hearts out of their passion for comics. Sometimes they spec based on data. And sometimes they spec based off the word on the street. Either way, all their specs appeal to a few or many collectors whether it is due to them having similar taste in writing or art, or just an opportunity for a collector to flip a book and make money to “support their habit”. So, this is our weekly chance to look back at how some of our buys from a year ago are doing today.

Tough week for speccing. You can only work with what you’re given.

Near Misses

American Gods Shadows #1 (available on eBay) – Anthony & Poyo Pick
Original Value: $4 Current Value: $4
Still copies of all 3 covers at on-line retailers. Lots of activity on the bay still. A few sales for a buck or two over cover. While not a winner yet, there may still be legs on this one but that could depend on the show’s success!

Red Sonja #3 J. Scott Campbell Variant (available on eBay) – Anthony Pick
Original Value: $4 Current Value: $4
Definitely not a winner yet. Still a ton of sales going on for this one. It’s JSC, so worth hanging onto.
Misses

Venom #5 Incentive Clayton Crain Variant Cover (available on eBay) – Mel Pick
Original Value: $150 (Ridiculous!) Current Value: $50
No quick flip data on this one but it has certainly fizzled. Mel did say to only get it if you can get it for cheap. Now maybe the time. There are so many amazing Venom covers out there and while this one is cool, to me it never warranted the hefty roll out value.

Deadpool the Duck #5 Incentive Joyce Chin Variant Cover (available on eBay) – Mel Pick
Original Value: $15 Current Value: $15 or less
Sold out at retailers but no recent sales. Doesn’t seem highly sought after. I think the earlier issue variants did a little better.
Unspecced Winners – None!
