Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 7/25/18

Each week, hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery July 25th, 2018.

The Killer B’s
Aquaman Vol 6 #38 Cover B Variant Joshua Middleton Cover – Middleton has become the hot young artist at DC. Everything he touches is golden. Great PC book even if you don’t collect Aquaman.

Detective Comics #985 Mark Brooks Cover – By far my favorite Mark Brooks cover yet. I love the bats flying around.

Flash #51 Variant Francesco Mattina Cover – there will come a time DC will do away with the killer B covers. In the mean time, pick up Mattina art at cover price. People would still buy these if they were high ratio variants.

The “Go To Marvel” Spec
Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur #33 – A new character in a book that speculators, and to be honest, readers, are picking up on. Worth the grab.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Bone Parish #1 – Cullen Bunn gets optioned, a lot. He has had numerous books that got picked up as options. All that aside, he is a prolific writer who can crank out quality content. One of my favorite writers. This book is selling out online, especially cover A.

Indy Pick of the Week
Hellicious #1 – Written by two Scout alumni, Mina Elwell and AC Medina. Two really great young creators. This is a must pick up for fans of Skotti Young’s I Hate Fairyland. Fun book, I had the chance to read early on. Sold out at Midtown.

Pick of the Week
Venom #4 – hands down the big book of the week. May not shoot up in value initially, but I think this will be one of the all time great takes on Venom. Plus, Donny Cates keeps throwing curve balls and the story is fun.

And in case you missed it, here is the New Comic Spec Review Video for the week:

  1. Interesting with Moon Girl, seems they are putting new characters in each issue…..Anything going on in JL Dark #1, or not so much?

    1. I think Marvel is developing the Moongirl property. They need original characters to grow and interact with MG. Tons of long term potential with series, imo. It seems as if Ive been picking up MG&DD every month since issue 26 or so.

      1. True, I’ve been getting them ever since I missed that issue with the new villain. Heard they are doing a show, luckily I have a few copies of #1

        1. #1 is her 1st appearance. Good book to own, imo. If yours has a nice clean cover, even better, given that white cover. Ive been spec’n n’ flippin’ for about 2 1/2 years now, and MG was one of my first long term spec picks. I cleaned out my area of #1s a while ago. I think I payed $2 for my 1st copy a few years ago. Out of the $1 bins. Its mind boggling how much the comic game has grown and inflated over the last 24 months. Silver and Bronze books have easily doubled, tripled, quadrupled in most cases, at least. ASM300 was a $200ish book 2-3 years ago. Now it does $900-$1000 all day.
