What up CHUllectors!?! Shawn B. the One Year Later Investigator, back with another One Year Later round up, where we take a look at some of the comics that Anthony, Mel, and Poyo specced on one year ago. Their specs turn out to be quick flips, slow burns, straight up misses, straight up winners and on and on. Sometimes they spec with their hearts out of their passion for comics. Sometimes they spec based on data. And sometimes they spec based off the word on the street. Either way, all their specs appeal to a few or many collectors whether it is due to them having similar taste in writing or art, or just an opportunity for a collector to flip a book and make money to “support their habit”. So, this is our weekly chance to look back at how some of our buys from a year ago are doing today.
Poyo’s Drek – Let’s see what the agent told us to stay away from last year.
Kingsman: The Red Diamond #1 – Original Value: $4 Current Value: $4 or less
Fruit Ninja #1 – Original Value: $4 Current Value: $4 or less
Winners
Astonishing X-Men #3 Variant Francesco Mattina Venomized Magneto Cover – Anthony & Poyo Pick
Original Value: $4 Current Value: $8
Great cover! Still a lot of activity on this one.
Quick Flip Winners
Trump’s Titan #1 – Anthony Pick
Original Value: $4 Quick Flip Value: $8 Current Value: $4
This Trump series has fizzled in price but still quite a bit of activity.
Walking Dead #171 Variant Lorenzo De Felici Pink Signature Cover – Anthony Pick
Original Value: $3 Quick Flip Value: $65 Current Value: $30
Been a couple pink signature variants since this one but I think this one is still doing the best.
Misses
Dastardly & Muttley #1 Variant Liam Sharp Cover – Mel Pick
Original Value: $4 Current Value: $4 or less
Dastardly speccing. Still available everywhere. To be fair Mel did call it a semi sleeper of the week.
Walking Dead #171 – Anthony & Poyo Pick
Original Value: $3 Current Value: $3
This series seems to be exactly what it is called at this point. The issues still keep coming out but the series seems dead…..or at least dying.
Unspecced Winners
Darth Vader #5 Regular Cover –
Original Value: $4 Current Value: $8
Selling for more than the ratio variant. Cool cover too!

Why anyone thought Fruit Ninja was a good idea is beyond me. That one had avoid all over it.
You all say the Walking Dead is doing bad but it moves a ton of books in secondary sales every week every day. Sure the price of #1 has been a little stagnant but some of the first appearances like Michonne and issue #2 are steady gainers to this day. Nothing after issue #100 looks likes it’s doing much but they are still moving. The season looks good it’s a new chapter much like when Negan first came around or the Governor. I’m sure you will all be watching it.
Early issues sold okay but no where near their once potential. As someone who just dumped their entire collection for the most part since March, I didn’t get near the amount these issues use to command. Also my #19 has been listed for over 2 months with no real movement. All I’ve gotten so far were low ball offers for the most part.
With Rick leaving the show, I’ve lost all interest (well, I was done after last season) and the comic book is boring as well.
Im witj Poyo about TWD. Yes, those earlier keys still sell, but the margins have taken a big hit. And anything over issue #100 is pretty much cover or less now. Its been interesting watching the TWD section of my books gradually shrink. If I can rid my comic boxes of all my TWD issues, I would be a happier flipper.
I actually have a huge lot of issues 127-178 listed. It’s the lot where some dude came in and bid them up to only $130 but then flaked out and said he couldn’t afford them. I have a best offer, someone can come in and lowball me and I’ll probably take it, books are worthless.
Sure, if people think they’ve hit rock bottom, price wise ..
WD is Dead for me .. Pull and Hold customers down 75% from a year and a half ago .. and, I don’t see it coming back .. ever .. sell now unless you’re a Collector that just wants the books in your collection .. once the show goes away, I don’t see any long term hold financial incentive for #1, et al ..
Now’s the time to buy honestly. For those that held out and are still fans, now’s the time to gobble up back issues at a fraction of the price they once were.
Sure, if people think they’ve hit rock bottom, price wise ..
Very true, I don’t think they’ve hit rock bottom as of yet.
Man that Star Wars cover is stupendous!
Ive done decent sales for a lot of those venomized theme month books, a la Astonishing XMen #3.
Also done well with Trump books. I feel dirty, but they sell. I have gotten away a bit from the Trump books as I feel others have jumped on that train.
A lot of the Vader covers have been kick ass. Great series.
I didn’t get to from this one last year. These lists are great, they have really helped me cut back on reckless spec’ing.
