Batman #60 is in stores Wednesday. The solicitation follows below. It mentions the Penguin and Batman working together. What it does not mention is the surprise ending.
Batman takes on a new partner, and it’s…the Penguin? After rejecting Bane’s crime-boss co-op, Cobblepot finds himself in the crosshairs of some very teed-off villains. The feathered felon turns to his old foe to snitch on Bane’s scheme, but has to prove his intentions to avoid a Bat-beatdown. Along the way, this Gotham odd couple begins to bond-could there be a new bird joining the Bat-Family? Not if Bane has anything to say about it…
Batman returns to the Batcave. But all is not right
Batman searches for a causes and finds….
Alfred is not doing well.
And the reason for it is….
looks like Bat vs. Bat will be coming up.
Is this the guy from batman 38?
if that’s the case, then Batman #38 should also heat up.
I’m hoping it is cause I’ve been sitting on a stack of #38 for this day to happen. π
me too, I have a stack of 15 copies of each, the regular and variant cover, both 1st prints!!
One day… one day we’ll profit as it doesn’t look like that time has come yet. It’s definitely a long term hold for Batman #38.
I sold 1 copy of Batman #38, 1st Dark Bruce, early this morning. At least 1 guy is thinking its the dude from Batman #38. Lol
Haha, nice. FOMO… Fear Of Missing Out, some will jump the gun just case. Can’t blame them at times, it can pay off at times.
He is not.
I think the problem is EVERYONE is sitting on a stack of 20 Batman 38s. It’s an awesome one book story though!!
I think I only bought 10. It’s gonna be fun the day the market is swamped with people listing these when that time comes around. π
Not me. Tom King came through and signed a bunch and I sold them. I may have a couple.
You sold one of those to me! Still have it. Not selling it! Unless I can’t refuse.
But I have a feeling it’s not him.
Thats Thomas Wayne, is it not?
Yes, it’s likely Thomas Wayne from the Flashpoint timeline. http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Thomas_Wayne_(Flashpoint_Timeline)
First appearance was in Flashpoint #1 (2011)
Could also be Thomas Wayne from Earth 2 when it was written by Taylor. Very similar costumes.
True but if they’re sticking to original uniform designs, Thomas from Flashpoint had a red circle over Bat Logo on chest where Thomas from Earth 2 if I recall had just a Red Bat Logo with a V shape on the chest pointing down to his belt buckle.
I’m gonna stick with Flash Point Thomas unless we learn something else.
Also, didn’t Thomas Wayne of Earth 2 die in Convergence?
Yes sir.
So what’s the significance of Flashpoint Knight of Vengeance #1 which is also an early appearance (Aug vs. July 2011 release dates for the two). Both claims to be first appearances. Is KoV the first TWayme in costume maybe?
Flash Point should be his first full appearance. It’s several panes and pages of Thomas Wayne as Batman in costume.
And this story makes sense. Batman and Penguin battling Bane. Anyone recall seeing Batman (Thomas Wayne of Flashpoint) in issue #50 ?
Hah! Shows how much attention I paid to Convergence. Oh well ?
Batman vs Mummra
Are you referring to Mumm-Ra from Thundercats? π
BTW, had a feeling this was coming for a while. Tried to find a NM copy of Flashpoint 1 forever on eBay. It is no easy….the hard stock cover is very unforgiving to defects. I eventually gave up after months of searching.
That and just querying Flashpoint 1 gets you 100000000 listings of all the spinoff titles.
I have about a dozen SDCC variants and 2 reg covers. If anyone is interested Amazon has the furreal Chewbacca almost half off today normally itβs $130.
My link got it down to like 324 results, but still has some stragglers of the spin offs but since there was two Flashpoint volumes, specifying 2011 helps. Flashpoint #1 (2011)
Looks like a continuation of issue 38. https://www.tfaw.com/Comics/Profile/Batman-62___588046
Yeah. I have half written up that story already for tonight. More news to come on that.
Lol I’m very confused. So are we looking for Flashpoint #1 or Batman 38? Guide us!
Theoretically both. The Thomas Wayne is a flashpoint. The Kid who wanted to be Batman is Batman 38. More on that tonight.
Are you saying that the little boy in that issue is Flashpoint Batman?
That would be a cool twist. But if it is, Flashpoint #1 would still trump issue #38 as the goto book. But we’d still see a lot of folks seeking out issue #38, I just think the desire would be less.
I do not believe so. He will be revisited later but I do. It think this is the pay off for Batman 38, but I could be wrong.
Finally! Ever since issue 50 I’ve been waiting for this moment
That pesky Dr. Manhattan.
Looking at labels, neither cgc or cbcs identify Thomas Wayne as a first appearance in Flashpoint 1.
I don’t consider them the final authority of first appearances. They’re graders, paid opinions. π
Wikipedia Claims it as his first appearance: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_(Thomas_Wayne)
DC Wikia has it listed as his first appearance:
http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Thomas_Wayne_(Flashpoint_Timeline)
Sometimes CGC and CBCS don’t label first appearances until they become more prominent characters.
As poyo stated, Neither CGC nor CBCS hold final say whats the first apperance, if anything the market decides.
I’m sure I have a couple of #38’s now finding them is going to be the issue.
I bet they’re in a longbox.. where you keep all your other comics. I also believe they’ll be found in the last place you look for them. π
Also after they cool off, if they heat up.
I’ve had that happen before. Know you have a book, cant find book when it heats up…. Find it after the heat has died.
Grabbed a graded Flashpoint 1 (9.6). Might have jumped the gun, but I also have tree copies of cover A to BM 38 and know where thereβs more.
The real dilemma is whether because everyone else stock piled this issue will it have any real long term spec value. Time will tell.
Also, check the condition of your, copies. I recall BM38 being an issue that was REALLY tough to find in 9.6/9.8 grade. In fact, I turned away from buying more because I was not investing in beat up modern comics.
Definitely a nice twist, especially knowing that Bane was not the mastermind (at least that is how it read), behind the issue 50 reveal.
