    1. Under your WordPress.com login, make sure you subscribe or follow “COMICSHEATINGUP – Informed Comic Book Speculation and Pop Culture News”

You might find or see the old site listed still which was “COMICSHEATINGUP.NET – INFORMED COMIC BOOK SPECULATION” <- Remove that one from your followed or subscribed sites and follow/subscribe to the new one I mentioned above where the slogan changed and doesn't have all CAPS in the slogan.

      1. Im literally in the WordPress app, logged in, unsubscribed to chu.net, followed chu, and I am still being asked for my name and email in order to leave this comment.

        1. Oh, wait. I think Ive got it. But if I visit the site using Chrome, on my phone, there is nowhere to ‘sign’ in.

  1. Light blue text on grey background is hard to read. More contrast might help? Sometimes, graphic designers forget about fundamentals when they try to be creative.

    1. Sorry, I was trying to make it less opaque but the setting foobar’d on me. You should pretty much see black text on white background for the main content for articles and posts now. CTRL+R should force a reload of cached components in most browsers.

  2. Runaways season 2 was great when Nico uses her dark powers she gets the eyes like Kaecilius this ties the show to Dr Strange. A cool theory going around the Internet is that Groots real name is Tree and therefore Tales to Astonish #13 is not his first appearance anymore. Because Thor in Infinity War States he speaks Groot’s language in a scene and in a later scene introduces him to Captain America as Tree. Since no one else actually speaks the language and just kind of assumes what he means when he says I am Groot. Some people would say he called Rocket a rabbit so he called Groot a tree and it’s just a furthering of the Rocket joke, then why the whole scene explaining that Thor speaks the language? Why would he purposely wrongfully introduce him as Tree if he speaks the language?

      1. Annihilation Conquest #6 in cameo as a twig and Giardiams of the Galaxy #1 2008 Also worth a mention Annihilation Comquest is the first appearance of the team we get in the movies.

        1. Did you read my Throwback Thursday before Thursday? I made a mention of this Annihilation Conquest #6.. 😉

          1. Even without everything that makes this book a key it’s still a really good read you get Adam Warlock vs New Mutants Warlock

        2. I guess I don’t understand…why does his name matter when it comes to his first appearance? Are Groot and Tree he same organism physically? I don’t know much about GotG or Groot, so please forgive me is this is a stupid question.

    1. There is only one. It pops up on every page but is very unobtrusive. We tried to balance it but still pay for the upgraded servers to keep CHU from crashing and having long lags.

    2. Rush…when I logged in using my G+ login (theres several login options bedsides Google), the pop up ads went away.

    1. David…Poyo has enabled the login sign in option for the new site now. You can sign in, using several options including G+, WP, IG…., directly from your web browser when you comment. Try signing in using the aforementioned method. Maybe that will help?

    2. I had to do it from the web browser by logging into WordPress.com. Doing it from the WordPress App only wanted to hide the site.

WordPress.com > Reader > Followed Sites > Manage > Click the Green “Following” icon next to the site to unfollow. Then clicked “Search or enter URL to follow” to find the new site which has COMICSHEATINGUP without the .NET in the name.

  3. I saw some images of a White Widow #1 ASM 300 swipe and a Spider-Man 1 swipe, but Im not seeing those covers on Midtown. Does anyone have any info on these Spidey Swipe covers fir White Widow #1? Are they kickstarter variants? Anyone? Bueller?

  4. PIckups:
White Widow #1 Red Foil Cover
Batman Who Laughs #2 regular & variant
    Marvel Tales #1
    Suicide Squad #50 Mattina variant
    Supergirl #26 artgerm variant

  5. original previews for Spawn 293 C cover was a McFarlane/Mattina BW cover (they’ve done this before) now it’s just a McFarlane virgin cover…

  6. Picking up this week:

Nothing is jumping out at me. The only book I am contemplating is Isola 6. I finally got around to reading 1-5 and thought it was OK. I still see a lot of positive reviews but the spec has seemed to die down. Anyone else have thoughts on this book?

I am also preparing for the next local swap in Portland next month. My inventory is feeling a bit thin as it has been picked through and I am down to about 4 short boxes of keys and 4 short boxes of $1. I also have several boxes of sets which seem to not sell even though they are priced to sell. I may have to break the sets, price the keys and then dump the rest in the $1 boxes. Sets/runs seem to not sell in my area unless they are priced below the cost of the tpb. I may also need to thin out my pc which is now up to about a dozen short boxes.

    1. I have not read Isola, but, I did very well selling issue #1. I still have a copy. Perhaps I will pull it out and give ‘er the ol’ once over.

  7. Good week of pick-ups:
    Gideon Falls #10 (cover B)
    Walk Through Hell #7
    Appalachian Apocalypse #1
Wonder Woman #62 (Cover B by Scalera)
    Babyteeth #14

    Spec pick ups this week:
Knights of the Golden Sun #3 (2 copies)
    Catwoman #7 (Oliver variant X3)
Detective 995 (6 copies at cover price)-sold 3 of these right away online for $16 each
Detective 994 (2 copies Brooks variant)
Detective 995 (2 copies Brooks variant)

    PC pick ups:
Uncanny X-Men #121 (1st full appearance of Alpha Flight) NM condition-trying to go back and fill in few missing pieces to my Byrne Claremont run from #95-143. I’ve been re-reading this run and you forget how great this storyline is….

    Good hunting everyone!

  8. White Widow #1 seems to be taking off. There are some decent sold listings for the red foil variant and sets of A and B. Cover A Silver Foil seems to be double cover too.

    1. I can’t speak for the actual content of the book but the cover alone reminded me of the art we would see on some covers back in the 90s. Love it and wish I could have grabbed a copy.

  9. Snagged my pre-snowstorm pull today. The LCS was sold out of the Catwoman B cover, and it appears they didn’t receive Middlewest #3, either. Other than that, the DC and Marvel books were well represented. They seem to be going a bit lighter on non-DC and Marvel titles although they still carry a smattering of Image, IDW, Dark Horse, and a couple other companies, but I miss out on some of the hot indie titles.

    Anyway, the pull:

Batman Who Laughs #2 (Of 6)(Cover A Jock)
Batman Who Laughs #2 (Of 6)(Cover B Ben Oliver)
Catwoman #7 (Cover B Ben Oliver)
Detective Comics #996 (Cover A Doug Mahnke)
Detective Comics #996 (Cover B Brian Stelfreeze)
    Electric Warriors #3 (Of 6)
Flash #62 (Cover B Jae Lee)
Hawkman #8 (Cover B Bill Sienkiewicz)
Justice League Dark #7 (Cover B Kelley Jones)
Red Hood Outlaw #30 (Cover B Philip Tan)
Suicide Squad #50 (Cover B Francesco Mattina)
Supergirl #26 (Cover B Stanley Artgerm Lau)
Superman #7 (Cover B David Finch)
Titans #33 (Cover B Tyler Kirkham)
Wonder Woman #62 (Cover B Matteo Scalera)
Gideon Falls #10 (Cover A Andrea Sorrentino)
Isola #6 (Cover A Karl Kerschl)/Isola Prologue And Bonus Material Bundle (One Shot)
    Warning #3
Conan The Barbarian #2 (Cover A Esad Ribic)
Invaders #1 (Cover A Butch Guice)
Marvel Tales Venom #1 (Cover A Jen Bartel)
Star Wars Age Of Republic Special #1 (Cover A Rod Reis)
True Believers Conan Curse Of The Golden Skull #1
True Believers Conan Queen Of The Black Coast #1
Venom #10 (Cover A Ryan Stegman)
    Walk Through Hell #7
Firefly #3 (Cover A Lee Garbett)
Judge Dredd Toxic #3 (Cover A Mark Buckingham)

  10. Started a pull list for the first time in 10 years. Here’s what it had this week:

    Tech 996B
    Venom 10A
    Catwoman 7B
    Knights / Golden Sun 3
    TBWL 2B

    Off the shelf:
    Harley 57B (wtf??)
    White Witch 1(Red Foil)
    Tech 995B
    Green Arrow 48B sketch
    Batman Beyond 26B

Big haul! I have a Harley 57B already. Flip or hold?!

    1. I’d say flip the Harley. However they are all error prints (to my knowledge and could be wrong) so that may give them some potential long term value.

      1. if they’re all “errors” then none are errors, or it doesn’t matter. I’m going to hold for a while. If I had to pick a recent comic to gamble on holding for a better flipmlong term, it’s this one. Has too much going for it.

Like immortal hulk #7 the “red” captain America.

Speaking of which…has there ever been a Capt America / Red skull mashup? Come on, house of ideas!

        1. To clarify, IH7 has a red captain a Erica in several frames…some people are advertising this as an error comic on eBay. Yes, it’s an error, but all copies have it and there is no recall. It will be corrected in subsequent reprints.

      2. I wouldnt call the Harley issue an ‘error’ per se. The ‘error’ is in every book so the ‘error’ book doesn’t distinguish itself from any other book with the same cover. Its an editorial oversight, and Im sure it happens more often than you would think. None of the books with these clerical errors has ever been referred to as an ‘error’ book. Imo.

        1. I’d say its an error if it gives credit to the wrong cover artist. Yes its not a rarity but it is by definition an error. Do the cover A’s say Cho is the artist? I honestly don’t know, but i’m asking bc if it does for all the books regardless of cover then yeah big editorial “error”, and makes it less of an issue, but if its distinct to just this cover then it does add something to the book. I’m just saying the awesome cover work, being a variant, plus the error “editorial definitely”, makes it a good book to flip.

  11. Got most of the more available books this week but did manage to pick up a copy of Knights of the Golden Sun 3, but most of the other indie ones I wanted were gone by the time I got there. I spent most of my time flipping through the dollar bins and this is what I found: Secret Wars 3, 4, 5 ,6, 7, and 9, Where Creatures Roam 4, World’s Finest 230, Weird Worlds 9, and The Superman Family 166. All of the older books are at least a 7+ so I’m super happy with finds like that in the $1 bin.

  12. Today’s pickups:

    Catwoman 7 Oliver Variant x 3
    Wonder Woman 62 Cover B
Batman Who Laughs #2 Cover A
Harley Quinn 55 Frank Cho Variant x 2 (Found out today that this one has Mirand’r’s Cameo
Amazing Spider-Man 559 (1st appearance of Screwball) – with all the young female heroes getting love in spider-verse, why not a young tech savvy female villain?

  13. Peace Fam.

    Hitlist:
    Batman Who Laughs 2 A/B
    Black Panther 8
    Catwoman 7B
    Hawkman 8B
    Ironheart 2
    Venom 10

    Come Up:
    Red Hood 25B @cover

Have a great week everyone. 1

    1. I looked for Red Hood 30B, but notta. Will keep,an eye out…doesn’t seem to be heating up like the putri covers.

Speaking of which, Red Hood 25 is hitting $45 lately. I grabbed a copy bundled with some Mattina/putri covers a month ago for $25. I left it on the shelf when it came out and regretted it…glad I got it before it took off. Sold the other comics I got in that deal for basically what i paid for the lot!

        1. I can vouch for Wren and CoverBcomics.com. I have been ordering from him every week lately. Not want to give away a secret but have been getting good books from him.

  14. No new pickups for me today just what I ordered last night, but I was looking through an old magazine box and I found found 5 different Nintendo Valiant comics I’ve been looking for, all are 9.8 candidates.

  15. Wonder Woman seems to be as scarce as Catwoman 7 around me. Surprising, but do love the cover. Love me some Ben Oliver this week, though. He killed it.

  16. Any good pre-order deals on a set of Detective Comics #1000? M&M Comic Service is selling the bundle (11 books) for $65.93, but their shipping is about $14 which adds roughly a dollar per book to the cost.
