One Week Later Report for January 30th, 2019

Welcome once again to the another installment of the One Week Later Report. This week we’ll cover the books released on 1/23/2019 which just happened to be a really lame week for new comics.

What an awful week for new books for the big two with DC and Marvel but the indies and small publishers saw the most success.

Online retailers sold out of a bunch of books but you can still find most available online for cover price, even on the secondary market for DC and Marvel.

DC Books

None to report. You can literally find most if not all of these online or at your local shops.

Marvel Books

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 5 was released, written by Donny Cates and interiors by Geoff Shaw. Selling out online but no real heat on most of the covers. Cover A is actually sold out at Midtown currently but you can find these for cover price on eBay.

This introduces the new team, with only Star Lord and Groot as the only original members from the previous team.

The only Marvel winner was Immortal Hulk #12 which is seeing great success. Dubbed as the best new Marvel series I think from last year and into early 2019, this book flies off the shelves for it’s apparently great story and writing.

This issue has become a solid $10 book on average on the secondary market. Grab’em if you can find them, most online shops have been sold out for almost a week now.

Initially sold out at some retailers was the new War Is Hell One-Shot. Since then most retailers seem to have covers A and B in stock but the Checcetto Young Guns Cover C variant is seeing some slight success.

Reaching around the $20 mark but has since cooled off with some recent sales around $15 or less.

Grab’em if you can find’em.

Indies and Small Publisher Books

The first book that’s seeing some nice numbers on the secondary market is the fairly new book from Albatross.

The limited incentive card stock variant for Grumble #3 is seeing prices trending around the $15 mark average. Sales peaking around $20 but a recent sold around the $9.

But tread lightly, there’s still a bunch listed without any real movement and the sold listings total are fairly small in comparison. So I can only imagine the demand is dwindling after those who seeked these out got their copies. It’s still a book to watch for sure as most retailers reporting they are sold out online.

Heroes at Large from Antarctic Press is doing well. I think people are still just jumping on the recent success over there at Antarctic Press so it might be hype more than real demand.

But nevertheless, these are selling between $10 and $20, I couldn’t find any under or over those prices. So not a bad pick up if you can find them. It’s at least double your money if you’re able to off load them.

The other Antarctic book from this week was Punchline #3. Sales peaked around the $15 range but it quickly became a $7 book. I think from the success of issues #1 and #2, retailers or those flipping killed the potential by flooding the market.

If you missed out, Poyo says wait, eventually this book will be a cover price book is my expectation.

The new Archie series Blossoms 666 #1 is still available at most retailers except the Hack, which was the go-to variant cover from the lot one could choose from.

The Hack copy sold as high as $20, became a solid $15 book but since then is now between $6 and $10.

I stopped spec’ing on Archie books, been burned too many times. You have to certainly be on your game to flip these to make it worth your while.

If they had a better track record of releasing books on time, these horror themed Archie books would be killer…   Get it, killer!

One that most likely overlooked from last week was Lady Death Hellraiders #1 Bombshell Variant Variant.

Cover price was $4.99 but this saw sales as high as $43.

A recent auction ended at $21 but this has since cooled off as most of the BIN are now ending around the $10 price range.

Still not a bad pickup if you can find them. The potential is still there to double your money if the intent is to flip.
