Blind Adam’s Hidden Gems Vol. 97

Greetings my Comics Heating Up family. Hidden gems is back. love you guys. Thank you for reading each and every week. First off Captain America #11, JLA #25-26, The Flash s#70-72, and Batman Who Laughs #1-6 are my reads of the week. Jessica Jones Season three has been amazing. Hellcat needs more cos-play love and Red Bull needs larger cans, like 40 oz style, now lets make the money on comics cause you can’t teach that.

1. Amazing Adventures #13 – bronze age classic. Beast story. Trish (Patsy) Walker being trained as a super hero pre Avengers #144. True first of Patricia Walker the sexy and talented Hellcat. Trish is a major player
in Jessica Jones and this book is cheap and key $5-10

2. Defenders #89– origin of Hellcat. Reveals the golden age stories were fictional works by Patsy’s mom Dorothy. Dorothy is one of the best parts of the Jessica Jones show I just love this issue and it is cheap $1-5

3. Defenders #125 – this is a double TV spec. The marriage of Hellcat and the Son of Satan. Hellstorm is getting a Hulu show and what sucks is that his wife Patricia Walker is now in TV limbo for
five years. $1-5

4. Amazing Spiderman Aim Toothpaste Specials – Spiderman teaches us how to brush our teeth, fights the Green Goblin and Doc Ock. John Romita Sr. art and this is a classic fun book $10

5. Grimm Fairy Tales #16 Kickstarter edition – this sexy cover has it all. First of all, sex sells. yes I said it. I will say it again and again. 200 people are buying this sexy Paul Green variant for kickstarter

6. Archie Comics #429, Betty and Veronica #82, Betty #19, and Veronica #39– This four part story is a modern Archie classic. Riverdale is one of the best shows on TV. Cheryl Blossom played by Madelaine Petsch is one of the best parts. Well this storyline called ‘Love Showdown’ brings Miss Blossom back with a vengeance. $5-10 a pop but Sexy Archie covers are on the rise, so, scoop these up wile you can

7. Power Pack #31 – so Power Pack is getting a show or a movie. Mickey is playing with his Marvel toys, oh boy. This is the classic ‘dear kids don’t smoke crack’ issue. Power Pack vs. a crackhead cover and story. I put this issue on my wall but that is me, happy hunting $5-10

8. Superman #411– I recently interviewed Elliot S. Maggin. He is a great guy. During the interview he told me that he created the concept of the Lexcorp. Lex’s company that would lead to Lex Luthor becoming the evil business man we know and love today. I always thought it was a John Bryne concept but Elliot says differently. I still need to put the episode up on the Awesomesauce Radio’s Soundcloud page and I will do it soon, but this is a cheap book that people should be buying $1-5

Well that is all for this week. Thank you all for being the best blessing in my life, and if you can go to my go fund me page and leave just one whole American dollar as that would be awesomesauce. Love you
guys

  1. Just read that Power Pack issue it is a tad racist but pretty darn hilarious. I think it would make perfect sense for Hellcat to reprise her role on the Hulu Son of Satan show, she’s not dead I could see him rescuing Satana from the raft and springing Trish in the process. Good stuff.

    1. Is it racism or is it more on the lines of being stereotypical? For me, racism starts when one race says they’re better than the other. I haven’t read the issue but for me, it seems like it would fall more in line of stereotyping or maybe prejudice over just being flat out racist from the year 1987.

  2. b.j., I am saying .because of the t.v./movie hype.i am now putting it on my wall for that price.it is a classic power pack issue.the cover causes a reaction and makes people look at my wall at shows .there are not manypower pack keys in the run.and yes I think the book can reach $5-10 because it is a time casple of where amrica was in 1987.just my thoughts thank you for reading andfor the surport .blind adam out

    1. Thank you for clarifying that. You’re pricing it high now hoping it becomes a $5 to $10 book which is fine.

Power Pack in general is a title that should be permanent residents in the cheap boxes of every store, convention and trade show in the country.

For those who can’t get there, buying them one at a time off E-bay right now and paying shipping to do so makes no sense when just about every online seller that offers a shopping cart has it for a buck or two and options to combine it with other books and even free shipping options at many.

I’ve probably still got copies in my cheap boxes since I’ve been aggressively placing Power Packs in them for 7 years now to always have a great choice for the kids cheap.

I just ordered Future Foundation yesterday with the combo Power Pack powered Julie on the cover.

I never really liked the switching and combo stealing of each others powers part of the original series.

  3. Always enjoy your picks! There was also an additional Archie Love Showdown Special 1 from 1994. Love that Archie is finally getting its due.

  4. Powerpack #1 looks like it will be in demand for a while. I wonder how a show or movie will affect non key issues. Will the old dollar bin books move beyond that or will it just be issue #1 that has all the demand? For children probably ages 10 to 14, who will be the main demographic, I’m sure they will pick up newer issues once any production is released but will they go back to the copper age stuff in large enough numbers to make a difference? Will be interesting to find out.

    1. It’s going to take a movie to sell it. The last Power Pack new issue still sits on the shelf untouched. The series ended over 28 years ago meaning some of the kids parents never even had a chance to know anything about Power Pack. There’s a variant cover for Power Pack coming in August I believe was open order that brought that old feeling back with the kids and a young Kitty Pryde and 80’s Wolvie on the cover. https://www.previewsworld.com/Catalog/JUN190900

  5. There we go, firmly planted between Old man Quill and Punisher taking up shelf space for how long now, year and a half?

    1. Lets hope it is a movie or a well done, well advertised TV show so you (and many others I’m sure) can get rid of a bunch of overstock! If Power Pack does go into production and it is received well, ya never know what can happen. Look at the Eternals. 18 months ago all 19 issues were $2 to $5 in NM (#1 was about $15 to $20) and now look at them! Once concrete news comes out about Power Pack I can see a lot of it moving with maybe some price increases outside of the first issue. Time will tell.

      1. I hope so. I feel like Eternals will be targeted to everyone but Power Pack may get pushed into the smaller kid zone market. I’m still not feeling the eternal thing. I’m afraid it’s going to be Inhumans all over again and not well received.

I feel like a cat about to pounce. UPS should be here any minute and I can’t wait to find out if fantastic four and Amazing Spider-Man get Carnage-ized Trade Dress treatment. My back stock on Deadpool14, Smbiote Spider-man 3 and Venom 15 should also arrive. Power Rangers 40 comes in and they tend to throw surprises in for the covers of big deal events. Maybe even Batman Damned 3 has some content to revive interest. Minutes away from knowing.

          1. Yes, both issues came in 50-50 split. Nothing exciting in the Power Rangers. Still searching for the 3 back stock issues from the last two weeks.

              1. When they launched the zero issue and again with the start of the Shattered Grid story they surprised us with mixed in covers we weren’t expecting causing pricing insanity. This time the standard covers appear to all be the same. The chrome covers I don’t actually like the look of unless you think Purple Ranger should be a thing. They definitely do not appear to be White to me no matter which way I twist it in the light. Hopefully the story content itself will create some extra demand to take the extra qty out the door but that would most likely be a slow turn instead of people fighting for Black Bags at 425 a pop which was fun.

I got a 50-50 mix on my restocks for Venom 15, Symbiote Spider-man 3 and Deadpool 14 although a number of the Carnage-ized Trade Dress have some scuffs or areas where the ink didn’t go on cleanly or completely. I imagine most stores got additional ones in today 50-50 mix as well.

Major X ticked me off also. I imagine you don’t want to know why yet.

        1. I hope Marvel learned from the Inhumans bomb. If they make the Eternals very action packed and cosmic on a grand scale and maybe bring back Thanos at some point it could be very entertaining! Right now my biggest worry is also what will probably keep the comics spiking. That is Marvel seems to be getting a lot of A list, Hollywood heavy hitters on board. That will bring a lot of early interest to the comics especially the bronze age run but I worry a little that all that star power may detract from a solid effort story wise. Throw enough popular celebrities on a project and that could be all the ticket sales they need. I just hope they keep their eye on the prize with a solid, fun, intriguing story that will branch out and keep everyone guessing and entertained for at least two phases.

          1. I say turn Inhumans into a movie. The tv show suffered from low budget and horrible writing. No idea why they chose to film it in Hawaii our film production kickbacks aren’t what they use to be. I would use the same cast a way better villain and some hair for Medusa. If they made it a Disney+ movie full of action I think they could revive the property. They need the Inhumans or they have to change Kamala’s origin when she appears.

            1. I’m wondering if the Inhumans would be better served if their Characters were just introduced into the MCU here and there instead of giving them their own platform again.

            2. is the inhumanjs show even worth watching?like can you stream it ?is it generation x bad?1990s nick fury witch gets a bad rapp bad?love you guys blind adam out

              1. Medusa is bald the whole season and Black Bolt uses his powers twice towards the end of the season. Karnak is working on a weed farm most the season and Ramsey Bolton would of cut off Maximus’s junk for ruining the career of the actor who portrays them. All this but I still watched it and say it’s worth a watch.
