Poyo’s Spec and Drek for July 3rd, 2019

It’s new comic book day tomorrow and hopefully we can celebrate some winner books while we celebrate our independence day here in the U.S.

Don’t forget there’s the awesome Venom #3 3rd Print Giveaway going on currently. You got one more day to enter by commenting and suggesting an idea you’d like to see on CHU.

So what’s hitting shelves this week that’s got me excited?

DC Pick

I’ve actually got nothing this week for DC floppies so I’m going with the trade I pointed out with my trade picks late last week.

That pick goes to Joker TPB Black Label.

I love a good Joker story and hopefully this one delivers cause there’s absolutely nothing else coming out for DC this week that grabs my attention. There is a Batgirl #36 Middleton Variant that is a great addition to your Middleton short or long box. There is also a great looking Green Lantern #9 (Infante Variant) but I don’t expect this one to heat up either. It’s a grab if you like the cover type of book.

Marvel Picks

Aero #1 is going to have a big print run. But still could be worthy of picking up. With the Agents Of Atlas getting a lot of attention and seeing some success on the secondary market, could just be a grab and hold.

Immortal Hulk #20 is a honorable mention for this week. The story has been great, sure the print runs have increased but this one is still a series to keep an eye on.

Indie and Small Publisher Picks

Banjax #2 is a book I’m looking forward to after reading the first issue. Great new indie series. Check it out if you haven’t done so already. If you liked The Black Hood, you’ll like this one.

Sea of Stars #1 (Cover A - Green)Sea of Stars #1 is that book I’ve mentioned several times already.

Can you blame me though? It’s a new Jason Aaron indie book. Aaron rarely disappoints and I’ve read the first issue already, it’s a great read. I definitely want to see where this one is going.

No One Left to Fight #1No One Left to Fight #1 is a new Dark Horse book that looks entertaining. I don’t expect this one to be spec worthy but you know, I’ve been wrong before.

They’ve saved the planet countless times, but what happens after the final battle has been won? Creators Aubrey Sitterson ( The Comic Book Story of Professional Wrestling , G.I. Joe ) & Fico Ossio ( Spider-Man , Revolution ) take inspiration from the legendary Dragon Ball to tell a story of regret, resentment, and growing older, one that asks, ”What does a fighter do when there’s no one left to fight?” * For fans of Dragon Ball and other fight manga!

Now on with the dreaded “avoid” pick, every writer and artist worst nightmare when it comes to selling their hard work.

Walking Dead #192 Special Commemorative Edition. Just an awful looking cover. One would think they could do a better job after killing off the main character of the story. You’ll find this cover in the dollar bins sooner rather than later.

      1. I was wondering what the hell you were talking about….like “has this guy never read the Joker HC?” Lol.

  1. I was looking forward to this weeks spec and drek. After your continuous Walking Dead bashing I was wondering how you’d handle what’s going on with TWD 193. And with grace and style, you’ve ignored it completely… Instead choosing to bash the 192 commemorative cover lol. Well I hope you enjoyed getting your last kicks in.
