Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 7/10/19

Every week, hundreds of comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 7/10/19:

What a great couple of weeks it has been for collecting and flipping. It has mostly been surprise books popping off. Hoping this week we see the same.

Returning Favorites
Batman #74 – Follows up on the craziness of the past couple of issues. Last issue saw Thomas Wayne dragging Bruce and a coffin containing Martha Wayne through the desert in hopes of Bruce’s mom being resurrected.

Naomi #6 – The final issue of the first storyline. There is more Naomi to come. Hopefully this rekindles the spark that the series originally had.

New #1’s
Giant-Size X-Statix #1 – Mike Allred returns to the Marvel Mutants he had a hand in shaping. While his pop-art style is not for everyone, I do love it and it works on the series. Plus, can’t get enough of Doop.

Mighty Marvel Must Have
Miles Morales Spider-Man #8 – New villain seems to be on tap for Miles. Miles is a movie star and needs an arch enemy of his own.

Can’t Miss Reprint
X-Men #1 Facsimile Edition – I love the facsimile editions. Reprinting the first issue of the original X-Men in it’s original format. This is a can’t miss.

Killer B’s
Black Cat #2 Mark Brooks Carnage-Ized Cover – Loving this Carnage cover, by far the best of the crop out of the ones coming up.

Invisible Woman #1 – This is a killer A and B. The Adam Hughes A cover and Killer B cover by Stephanie Hans are both good looking covers and worth the look as well.

Reader Pick of the Week
Black Hammer Justice League Hammer Of Justice #1 – Black Hammer has been one of my favorite books since it first came out. It is a love letter to the classic Super Hero comics of the past with a big twist. The team is crossing over with the DC Universe in an awesome story and a crossover that just feels natural.

The One to Watch
Go Go Power Rangers #21 – An introduction of a new Ranger. Pretty cool at that.

Small Press Gems
Second Coming #1 – Once was going to be published by DC. Then DC canned it. Ahoy comics has picked it up. Has a bit of buzz behind it because of the cancelation. May not be for everyone but controversial topic and the cancelation could boost the book.

Unearth #1 – Two of my favorite creators, Kyle Strahm (Spread) and Cullen Bunn (Harrow County and just about everything else) put out a new horror series. The first issue was sent out by Image for review and was really cool. Cullen Bunn has had a ton of books optioned.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Reaver #1 – Very cool concept, hell’s dirty dozen. The worst of the worst trying to save the world. Justin Jordan has a great fan base and puts out some good work.

Large Press Pick of the Week
Venom #16 – Donny Cates has a lot in store for Venom still. Something big is in store and it is just a matter of time before it pops off. Cates returns to the series after the War of the Realms crossovers.
