Flashback Friday – One Year Later Report for July 2018

One year ago, we spec’d on new books hitting the shelves. Now it’s time to see how those specs and picks are doing now.

Let’s find out what we were spec’ing on in July 2018. This is books we mentioned in our weekly Picks, Spec and Drek and Mel’s Variant Picks.

The books we spec’d on and talked about go first.

Batman #50 was the big wedding event that turned out to be one of the biggest DC bombs ever.

Huge hyped up issue only to turn out to be Selina leaving Bruce at the altar. I knew it was too good to be true but I also don’t think Bruce would have fallen for her in such a way.

So many variants, exclusives with this one and you can find most of the regulars still sitting at the local shop or online.

Nightwing #46 Oliver Variant was a great Killer B cover.

Originally shooting up to around the $10 range at it’s peak price but now is all over the place value wise. A recent sold was at $9.99 while another recent auction ended at 99 cents. On average I’d say you can probably get double cover for this one.

Immortal Hulk #2 Zaffino Variant (Mel’s Cover picks) is a definite winner if you bought low. Going for a cool $100+ for most raw sales and a few CGC 9.8 have hovered around the $500 range or so.

Hot series that wasn’t as hot as it was then, this issue saw Dr. Frye’s first appearance.

Unnatural #1 Manara Variant was one of those skimpy looking covers, kind of weird, not for everyone but is still a solid $8 to $10 on average a year later.

Venom #3 SDCC Variant was a nice pickup if you got for cover. A year later it’s still a solid $15 to $20 book on average and most recent sales.

Mall #1 is a recent book that heated up after news of it getting an option went public.

Still sells anywhere from $5.99 to $15 on a good day. I think the delays is what’s killing this books potential though. I think issue #4 just hit stands. That’s 1 book every 3 months.

Farmhand #1 just heated up, almost exactly a year later with news of it getting a media option.

This one made the top ten Covrprice list too after it the news was announced. It’s currently an easy $15 to $20 flip if you can still find them out in the wild.

She Could Fly #1 is another book out of SDCC with news of getting optioned.

I predicted this a year ago with my picks. The writer is from the AMC show Halt And Catch Fire. It’s a no brainer he was likely shopping this title.

This quickly jumped in the mid $20 range on average after the news broke. This was likely a dollar bin book prior if any were left at some shops. It’s now settled around the $15 range. Still a nice flip if you can find them out in the wild for cover price.

Bone Parish #1 was a new Cullen Bunn book that sort of heated up last year due to just normal demand and likely low initial orders. Today you can still find this one around the $10 to $12 range on average.

Good luck finding NM+ with this one as well, the black cover made this one hard to find in minty fresh condition.

Now on with the notable books we didn’t mention specifically but are now hot or heated up.

Immortal Hulk #2 was one of those books that was overlooked, early on in the stages before people really started noticing the story line and such that made this title take off.

This one introduced the new Dr. Frye character. A solid $40 to $60 book on recent sold listings.

Immortal Hulk #3 is the other Immortal Hulk book that hit shelves last July that is another book you can flip for decent money.

It’s selling anywhere between $15 and $30 with most recent sold listings.
