August Previews Spotlight for DC Books

Martian Manhunter #9 (of 12) (Middleton Variant)

In order for J’onn and Diane to uncover all of Charnn’s deadly secrets, J’onn will have to perform a Martian thoughtopsy, an extreme telepathic procedure that he might not come back from!

What secrets, traps and deadly obstacles exist in Charnn’s head and his past? And is it too late to save Ashley Addams?

The awesome series continues.

This is one of the few DC titles I’m still reading.

The Middleton variant B covers are pretty sweet and add to the bonus of this series.

Supergirl #35 Yotv

As Supergirl gets drawn deeper into Leviathan’s plans and the search for her foster parents, the newly sentient Brainiac-1 drone realizes the one thing he needs to unlock the power of millennia of Kryptonian science is the Girl of Steel herself!

With her focus on her Earth family, will the distraction make her an easy target for the mad A.I.?

And how will Leviathan respond as she gets closer and closer to their plans?

I like this cover. I guess you can call me a sucker for a good villain ripping the uniform or cape of the hero (Amazing Spider-Man #238 anyone?).

Supergirl #36 (Card Stock Variant) Yotv

Supergirl-the infected! Brainiac-1 attempts to contact Supergirl at the Fortress of Solitude, but for what nefarious purpose?

No matter what he has planned, things are about to go from bad to worse as Supergirl heads on a collision course with the Batman Who Laughs!

He’s targeted Superman as part of his plan to infect heroes and transform them into their twisted Dark Multiverse counterparts-but Supergirl gets caught in the crossfire, and the Year of the Villain stakes get even higher!

At first I thought this was an Artgerm variant. Despite it being a cardstock cover, Derrick Chew is giving Artgerm a run for his money with the same style and concept for his ladies he draws.

Tales From the Dark Multiverse Batman Knightfall #1

Don’t miss this twisted tale from the pages of the game-changing event ‘Batman: Knightfall’!

Thirty years after Bruce Wayne was broken and failed to take back the mantle of the Bat, Jean-Paul Valley, now known as Saint Batman, has turned Gotham into the city of his dreams.

In his new order, killing has become commonplace and criminals live in constant fear-all in the name of justice.

But just when all seems lost, a new hope for Gotham City rises the son of Bane!

I love it. Definitely a check out book. It’s almost like Marvel’s What If type series but in a more serious type of story.

Tales From the Dark Multiverse Death of Superman #1

The Dark Multiverse takes on the highest-selling comic book event of all time-the Death of Superman!

In a broken world much like our own, Lois Lane, twisted by rage and grief, becomes the Eradicator and takes revenge on those who let Superman die, and the corrupt world he could never defeat.

Now, with the power of a god, she’s going to end the battle by any means necessary and the Reign of the Supermen will be over before it begins!

Umm..  yes please. A vengeful Lois Lane on a sort of evil path of destroying those who allowed Superman to die. This just sounds like an awesome read if done right. Sign me up!

Teen Titans #35 Yotv

The Teen Titans’ traitor is finally revealed as all their scheming finally comes to a head!

How will the team deal with the betrayal, and to what end are the traitor’s plans?

Worse, will the previously secret Teen Titans team finally be exposed to the world?

This house of cards is about to come crashing down…and one of the Teen Titans will pay the ultimate price!

I just like this cover. It sort of reminds me of GNR’s Appetite for Destruction album cover.

I’m also a sucker for skulls artwork. I don’t pick up or read Teen Titans but I might have to grab this for the personal collection.

Wonder Woman #81 Yotv

Olympus has been returned to the gods!

Now that the deities of Diana’s world are back in power, all of her troubles are over. Or are they?

Using the welcome distraction, Cheetah has finally made her way to her final destination for destruction: Themyscira!

Cool cover of Cheetah ripping through.

With the new Wonder Woman movie upon us, I can only imagine we might be seeing more and more Cheetah to get people pumped for the movie.

It’s a definite check out book due to the cover.

  1. Is that ‘Red Cloud’ on the cover to Action Comics, too? Red Cloud is aka Robinson Goode. 1st appearance is DC Nation #0. There are several high ratio covers for this book. And her 1st appearance as Red Cloud is Action 1005. There is an A and a B for that book.
