Poyo’s Trade and Hardcover Picks of the Week

We shouldn’t just collect or flip books, we should also read them. A good story can make your purchase well worth the money spent if you ask me. After all, we buy books to read for entertainment right? Even if you can’t flip them, reading is just as rewarding.

We tend to focus on mostly the floppy copies each week and kind of ignore the trades and hardcovers that come out week after week.

These can be one off books, collected editions or special editions.

Tales of the Batman Gerry Conway HC Vol 03

In these 1980s tales from BATMAN #349-359 and DETECTIVE COMICS #515-526, the Dark Knight takes on evil with the help of the Human Target, Jason Bard, Batgirl and others and faces the threats of Catwoman, Hugo Strange, Deadshot, Solomon Grundy and more.

Plus, it’s the introduction of Killer Croc!

I’m a long time Batman fan and these just bring back the best I think of why Batman is one of the greatest heroes of all time.

Sure Batman is still great nowadays but nothing can replace the Batman we all know from these early stories and issues. The other reason I don’t mind spending money on hardcovers is it prevents you from having to whip out the issues you might have in your collection to read, keeping them in pristine condition.

This 3rd volume will accompany the Vol 1 and Vol 2 hardcovers very nicely.

Saga Compendium TPB Vol 01

THE ULTIMATE BINGE-READ! Collecting the first nine volumes of the critically acclaimed, New York Times bestselling series into one massive paperback, this compendium tells the entire story (so far!) of a girl named Hazel and her star-crossed parents.

Features 1,400 pages of gorgeously graphic full-color artwork, including a new cover from Eisner Award-winning SAGA co-creator FIONA STAPLES. Collects SAGA #1-54.

You know, I have all 54 issues of Saga myself. Yes, I’m behind on reading these as I’ve been waiting to collect a nice stack to read these all in one sitting.

This just might be the way forward to catch up and a nice way to have them all in one huge volume without the hardcover extra price. I did see these at the local shop this past Wednesday and I must say, it’s a pretty cool book despite not having a hardcover. It’s almost like a big thick bible, only the stories within are not as bland..  (no pun intended for you religious people).

Could you imagine if BKV rewrote the bible? This is it I think..

Click the next page for the next pick and mention..  I split these up as the next ones I found preview pages.

  1. I’ve got all 54 issues of Saga and I’m also behind way behind on reading them. I’m not sure if I’ll keep in my pullbox for the next 54 issues I haven’t decided yet.
