Previews gives us a glimpse of what’s to come. Here’s the spotlight of new books coming out of October Previews for the smaller publishers, which consists of Dark Horse, Image, IDW, Dynamite and others that are usually creator owned but still considered bigger than the small guys when it comes to publishing numbers.
This first book coming out of Dark Horse really has my interest if the writing is on par. I absolutely welcome some good murder mystery and drama stories but mixing this in the WWII era makes this one potentially special for me. I really enjoy Dean Kotz’s artwork on Mars Attacks so that’s another bonus for this book.
In 1944, as Swastikas flew over Paris, one of the most notorious and prolific serial killers in history turned the occupied city into his personal hunting ground.Under the guise of opportunity and freedom, a killer preys on those desperate to flee . . . until a gruesome discovery alerts the police.
In a city on the brink of war, the hunt for a serial killer begins as a French detective races to catch the villain before the Nazis beat him to it.
Written by Stephanie Phillips (Descendent, Devil Within) with art by Dean Kotz (Mars Attacks), The Butcher of Paris is a historical, true crime thriller about a killer wanted by both the Nazis and allied forces for the death of nearly two hundred victims.
Fans of Harrow County should be celebrating it’s return with a new 4 issue mini-series. I first learned about this in NYCC after it was leaked news from the Diamond Retailer Breakfast. Although, not really big enough for it’s own press release, now you’re hearing about it if you don’t read Previews.
Harrow County is back!
The Award-winning, Eisner-nominated, southern-gothic horror series returns with a brand-new story.Ten years have passed since Emmy exited Harrow County, leaving her close friend Bernice as steward of the supernatural home.
But World War II is in full swing, taking Harrow’s young men and leaving the community more vulnerable than ever–and when a ghostly choir heralds the resurrection of the dead, Bernice must find a solution before the town is overrun.
This next one really doesn’t need any explanation. For you people reading Black Hammer titles from Jeff Lemire, this is a must.
Spiral City finds itself trapped in a vicious cycle of crime, corruption, and violence.
With the heart of the city at stake, a vigilante rises in Skulldigger.
However, when the nefarious Grimjim escapes from prison, will Skulldigger and his ward, Skeleton Boy, be enough to save Spiral City?
There’s also a pretty cool Deodato Jr. Variant for this book as well.
I love a good revenge story.
In order to kill a monster, theyll risk becoming one! After Anna Hoyt’s sister commits suicide, she sets off for Atlanta to kill the man responsible for destroying her family–her fiance, Jim ”Whitey” Donovan.
But Anna, a spirited though pampered daughter of a prominent doctor, can’t do it alone. To get through the hell that lies between her Alabama home and Atlanta, she makes a deal with one of the Donovan slaves, Hattie Virgil, who has an agenda of her own.
In exchange for a chance at freedom, Hattie, a survivor, will lead this unlikely pair on a quest that will change them both forever.
The comic-book debut of writer Sydney Duncan, author of the critically acclaimed fantasy trilogy The Revelation Saga, and artist Natalie Barahona!
This next one is for you Criminal Macabre fans.
Steve Niles! A brand-new Criminal Macabre story by Steve Niles (30 Days of Night)!
A noir tale of mysteries, vampires, love, and betrayal. Supernatural detective Cal McDonald, found wandering the streets as a disheveled vagrant, is ripped from his self-imposed retirement to resume his monster-killing career. But Cal is reluctant to return to the fray. What has the hard-bitten investigator so shaken?
Its a long story that begins with a beautiful woman who happens to be a vampire . . . and ends with a bang.
Joe Hill is a great writer. This new book coming out from IDW sounds great.
The debut of an all-new creation by Joe Hill (Locke & Key) and Martin Simmonds (Punks Not Dead)!
Meet Syd ‘Sh*t-Talk’ Homes, a disgraced ex-cop turned bitter stand-up comic turned… possible felon?!
In part 1 of Dying is Easy, Carl Dixon is on the verge of comedy superstardom and he got there the dirty way: by stealing jokes. He’s got a killer act, an ugly past, and more enemies than punch-lines. So when someone asks Syd Homes how much it would cost to have Dixon killed, Syd isn’t surprised in the slightest. He’s already got a figure in mind…
Right now you can pre-order the 1:10 copy incentive from TFAW for cover price as well (no cover art revealed yet though, seems like it will be a BW version of Variant Cover B): Dying Is Easy #1 (of 6) (Retailer 10 Copy Incentive Variant) B&W Rodriguez
I usually don’t spec on GI Joe books but this cover art grabbed my attention. Not sure why but I just love this cover.
Journey into the heart of Cobra as Major Bludd searches for the hidden truth behind Cobra high command!
What will Cobra’s new vision of America mean for G.I. Joe?
Guest artist Niko Walter takes us inside the hidden world of Cobra!
We all knew this was coming but this cover art pretty much sets it in stone for the new turtle me thinks.
Welcome to the new world of TMNT! After the cataclysmic events of TMNT #100, the Turtles find New York City drastically changed-new factions and enemies are on the rise, and allies are in short supply.
The Turtles discover that in order to survive they will need to work together like never before! An exciting new era for the TMNT, and the perfect jumping on point!
A Turtle story unlike any you’ve seen, written and drawn by TMNT superstar Sophie Campbell! Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz will be back with even more TMNT in 2020!
Books that come out after a hit show usually don’t do that well, unless of course it’s Rick & Morty. But I love the stories about illegal drugs and smuggling, especially based on true stories. It’s crazy what people will go at great lengths to make a few bucks…
Spinning out of the hit Netflix original show comes a new four-issue mini-series further detailing the intrigue and danger of the international drug trade of the 1990’s!
Two new recruits bring danger to DEA agents Murphy and Pena, while Pablo must contend with a dangerous threat to his drug empire!
New stories bringing to light the tangled web of power and money in ’90s Columbia! A can’t-miss for fans of crime stories inspired by true events!
I think fans of Descender will probably like this next book. I know I’m looking forward to it as sounds like a great science fiction book with robots trying to survive after being banished from their world for crimes.
Each found guilty of an irredeemable crime, four robots find themselves banished from their home world and bound together by the Kill Lock-a programming link that means if one of them dies, they all will.
Now a soldier, an addict, a murderer, and a child find themselves forced to protect each other while in search of a cure to survive.
I’m not so sure about this next title. Seems like it might make an interesting show but not sure how it will fair as a comic book. But it could be a surprise entertaining read if done right.
Are you dead? Denny Little can help.
This disgraced TV psychic can put your soul in a living body… for a price.
A bad day at the office, however, has just put a bounty on his head courtesy of a murdered mafioso, leaving Denny 48 hours to save his own life.
The Boys on Amazon was a great show. I rarely binge watch shows but this one was great, finished it in two nights. So when a dollar edition of #1 hits stands, it’s a cheap pickup for those that missed out on the first printing.
And this is actually the first Dynamite #1 for this book, since they took over with issue #7.
Need the perfect jumping-on point for The Boys after binging it on Prime? Here you go!
Dynamite never actually had the honor of publishing issue #1 of The Boys (we started with #7), but now we’re going to do it! But we’re not just reprinting issue #1, we’re doing it and charging just $1.00 for it! See where it all began… For a buck!
Includes a reprinting of The Boys #1 by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson along with new promotional material for all of Dynamite’s Boys merchandise and publications!
I don’t usually buy Vampirella for myself but I can appreciate Artgerm doing the covers. He was made to do Vampirella covers I think.
Seduction of The Innocent Book Six: Vampirella’s love life becomes a major impediment to her mission as obsessed suitors both past and present attempt to manipulate her into furthering their goals.
Meanwhile, the Blood Red Queen of Hearts teaches the newly resurrected Mistress Nyx a painful lesson. Anything that can happen…does!
There’s also a bunch of very limited foil dressing variants of this cover one can choose from, if you got the dough to fork over for them.
One of the few Image issue ones coming out that is a brand new title, not a continuing volume or existing story arc. Could be a good read, but Image books by relatively new writers and artists I approach with caution.
SERIES PREMIERE Lucy Claire was once a celebrated hero. But through a series of sinister events, she was slandered and defamed, and her children were taken from her.
But when an old danger re-emerges, Lucy will have to take on the mantle of hero once again in order to right the wrongs of her past and-above all else-find a way back to her children.
It’s been about a year and we finally get to issue #3, after a title change. Dead Eyes use to be Dead Rabbit and we never made it to issue #3.
Dead Eyes just wanted to put on a mask, steal from the rich, and give to himself. But now his wife and his wheelman are in the hospital, and the mafia is closing in.
This issue contains ALL-NEW MATERIAL, guest starring laughing gas, an MRI machine, some pointy surgical instruments, some soft tissue of some bad men, and a depressed mafia boss.
Gotta love the “All-New Material” right? Well of course it’s new, we’ve never got this far yet.
I loved Alex+Ada. So this one is a check out.
SERIES PREMIERE From JONATHAN LUNA (ALEX + ADA, GIRLS, THE SWORD) and LAUREN KEELY, in her writing debut, comes an all-new ongoing series!
This sci-fi thriller for mature readers imagines a not-so-distant future-a world of norms and syms, divided by fear. Syms, a small percentage of the population with telekinetic abilities, form gangs to survive.
But division only breeds more division, and Mer and Nuon experience this firsthand as they become entangled in the often dramatic, sometimes violent, but always complex social landscape of sym gang rivalries in Anchorage, Alaska.
I’ve read the first issue, have you? I’m really looking foward to see where this new series is going, it’s definitely got me intrigued.
As the team goes on the run from the deadly Destiny Man, the focus shifts to Charlotte’s brother, Daniel.
Until this expedition, he was the only person on Earth to successfully infiltrate the black box that is the United States.
What secrets did Daniel learn that might keep the team alive, and what did they cost him?
