December Previews 2019 – Marvel Spotlight Books

Ghost Rider #5

HEARTS OF DARKNESS II Just when Dan Ketch thought he was out, he finds himself in way over his head, with strange new abilities to boot!

Guest starring Wolverine and the Punisher! Rated T+

See above, it’s Ghost Rider and I’ve been enjoying this new series. This one is a bonus with Punisher guest starring in it.

Dark Agnes #1 (of 5)

HER FIRST SOLO COMIC SERIES! Forced into an arranged marriage, Agnes de Chastillon took matters into her own violent hands to free herself from the yoke of a life she never wanted. Now, the woman known as DARK AGNES, along with her mercenary partner ETIENNE VILLIERS, make their way through 16th century France as sellswords on their way to join the wars in Italy, where the real money is!

But when Etienne is captured by the DUKE OF ALENCON’s forces and set for execution, it’s up to Dark Agnes to save the day! But what evil designs are being enacted on Agnes, and will she doom herself by saving Etienne? An all-new story following up Robert E. Howard’s tales, the swashbuckling saga of DARK AGNES in Marvel Comics starts here! Parental Advisory

This one looks promising. Plus I’m a bit biased with this one since my Grandmothers name was Agnes.

Falcon & Winter Soldier #1 (of 5)

An office of dead government agents. A gifted new killer. Two ex-Captain Americas… When a dramatic attempt on the life of Bucky Barnes reunites him with Sam Wilson, the two old friends are plunged headlong into a race to uncover the new leader of Hydra before a mass casualty event announces the terror group’s resurgence to the world. The clock is ticking…

Derek Landy (BLACK ORDER, SECRET EMPIRE: UPRISING) and Federico Vicentini (ABSOLUTE CARNAGE: MILES MORALES) team up for a pulse-pounding action spectacular! Rated T+

Looking forward to the Disney+ show and I’ve really enjoyed these two characters in the MCU. Hopefully they keep the writing on par with the characters in the movies, which will only make this title that much better.

Fantastic Four Grimm Noir #1

Ben Grimm throws on his hat and overcoat to solve a mystery that’s come alive right out of his nightmares.

What is Dr. Strange’s nemesis D’Spayre doing on Yancy Street? Rated T

I don’t usually pick or spec on Fantastic Four but this one looks interesting. I think it’s either going to be good or it will totally suck. There will be no inbetween.

Captain Marvel #15

‘THE LAST AVENGER’ PART 4: DESPERATE MEASURES Captain Marvel had 24 hours to kill five Avengers – and she’s dangerously close to failing.

Carol’s plan was always flawed, but as she nears the endgame, those flaws are becoming fatal.

As Vox Supreme’s true plans for five dead Avengers emerge, it’s more important than ever that Carol not fail today. Rated T+

Great story so far, gotta see how all this Vox Supreme plays out.

Nebula #1 (of 5)

Nebula has grown under the shadows of Thanos and Gamora, but no longer!

With her eyes set on a top-secret device, Nebula has big plans for her future-and she’s not about to let anyone get in her way! But her goal may end up costing her more than she’s willing to pay after a showdown with one of the cosmos most feared bounty hunters….

Don’t miss out on this cosmically critical series launch from rising stars, Vita Ayala (PRISONER X) and Claire Roe (FEARLESS)! Rated T+

I’m a fan of Nebula in the movies so this one I’m looking forward to. I just hope they don’t blow it.

Thor #3

THE BATTLE OF TWO STORMS!

It’s Mjolnir versus Stormbreaker as Thor’s old ally Beta Ray Bill makes a thunderous entrance!

But what has put the two friends at odds – and can the King of Asgard convince the Korbinite to let him continue his bloody mission to save all that is? Rated T+

I enjoyed reading the first issue, yes, I got a hold of one of those advanced copies. Please don’t let us down Donny! Aaron made me a Thor fan, let’s keep that a thing…

Ant-Man #1 (of 5)

Scott Lang is back and doing better than ever! Er, at least according to him, but his daughter, Stinger, and the anthill he’s living in say otherwise.

Desperate to raise his daughter’s opinion of him, Scott takes a job from local beekeepers only to uncover a global conspiracy that could topple the world order! No time to call the Avengers, this sounds like a job for – ANT-MAN?!

Join the explosive creative team of Zeb Wells (NOVA) and Dylan Burnett

I love a good Ant-Man story and title. I just wish they could do a more ongoing series, make a bit dark.

Wolverine Claremont & Buscema #1 Facsimile Edition

The debut issue of Wolverine’s first-ever, long-running ongoing series!

Chris Claremont teams with comic book giant John Buscema to send Logan on a sword quest – fighting pirates in Indonesia! From there the action heads to Madripoor, where a cult seeks the black blade known as the Muramasa Sword. Whether wearing his stripped-down black suit and no mask, or donning his signature ‘Patch’ disguise, this is a Wolverine unlike anything ever seen before – slicing and dicing armies of pirates and cultists! It’s one of the all-time great Marvel comic books, boldly re-presented in its original form, ads and all! Reprinting WOLVERINE (1988) #1. Rated T

This is a cool facsimile but this is also a book that’s still in most collectors price ranges I think.

Wolverine Claremont & Miller #1 Facsimile Edition

He’s Wolverine. He’s the best there is at what he does. And what he does best isn’t very nice. Revisit the classic, character-defining story that burned that phrase on the collective consciousness of comic book readers!

A pair of industry legends – Chris Claremont and Frank Miller – show how the breakout star of the X-Men could also be a solo series icon! Claremont and Miller take Logan away from his teammates – all the way to Japan, where Mariko, the woman he loves, has married another out of duty! As Wolverine hunts for answers, he is drawn into brutal combat with Mariko’s father – and enters a shadowy world of samurai and ninja which he never truly leaves! It’s one of the all-time great Marvel comic books, boldly re-presented in its original form, ads and all! Reprinting WOLVERINE (1982) #1. Rated T

Same like the facsimile above as this one is still in the affordable range for most. It’s still a pickup I think though as I’m a fan of the facsimile books.

  1. This is kind of off topic, but did anyone see that there will be a Facsimile edition for Hulk 182, which I think someone here called out they should do that to bookend issue 181 given it has a cameo of wolverine and there’s a facsimile for issue 180 as well.

and it’ I think it comes out in March.

    1. They should just do a facsimile of every issue starting with #1… make it come out monthly. If they can arrange them to be in spinner racks at the local Walgreens and or CVS that would make the nostalgia even better when I go and buy them to read.
