December Previews 2019 – Marvel Spotlight Books

Previews gives us a glimpse of what’s to come. Here’s the spotlight of new books coming out of December Previews for Marvel.

Marvel has around 206 books in the December Previews. Here’s my small glimpse of the ones I’m looking forward to, in no particular order.

Deadpool #4

DEADPOOL VS KRAVEN!

King Deadpool enters single combat to save his entire kingdom!

If Deadpool became king of the monsters when he killed the previous king, will Kraven become king when he kills Deadpool? Parental Advisory

I picked this Deadpool basically for the cover. Love it, it’s a PC book, who cares if the story is good or not within it.

Conan Battle for Serpent Crown #1 (of 5)

A DEADLY QUEST AND A DARING HEIST… IN THE AGE OF MARVELS!

CONAN wanders the desert, and as he reaches the city, no Stygian temple nor Vendyhan fortress greets him. No, something far stranger: the lights of fabulous Las Vegas! Conan is far from home, and it’s time for him to tread the thrones of the Marvel Universe under his sandaled feet!

The City of Sin is just the beginning for Conan’s solo jaunt by Eisner award-winner Saladin Ahmed (BLACK BOLT, MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN) and Luke Ross (STAR WARS: ALLEGIANCE, SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN), as the barbarian finds himself on a quest for a relic that predates even his Hyborian Age: the Serpent Crown of Atlantis! But will his battle for this crown earn Conan his own kingdom, or doom him to a nefarious trap set forth by MEPHISTO? Featuring a wide array of Marvel heroes and villains, this is an adventure you can’t afford to miss! Parental Advisory

I was a Conan fan way back in the day. I didn’t even buy them though, I just read my older brothers copies. I’ve been trying to find the time to pick up some of these newer titles they’re been rolling out so this one makes the cut as I’ll get around to reading it, hopefully and eventually.

Avengers of the Wastelands #2 (of 5)

HUNTING FOR DOOM!

DANI/THOR, DWIGHT/ANT-MAN, and HULK, JR. set off on a quest to save the Wastelands from DR. DOOM’s reign of terror!

But can they succeed where OLD MAN LOGAN left off?

And what does the return of CAPTAIN AMERICA herald for the team? Rated T+

I hope this new series is good but I’m really digging this cover art.

Atlantis Attacks #2 (of 5)

THE EARTH WILL SHAKE AND THE WATERS WILL BOIL!

NAMOR versus BRAWN! A team torn asunder! SWORD MASTER and SHANG-CHI undercover!

Wave caught between the surface world of her birth and the undersea glories of ATLANTIS! And who are the SIRENAS?

The epic clash continues and the AGENTS OF ATLAS — both old and new — will never be the same! Rated T+

This is another title I hope is a great read and hopefully as they start including Namor in titles, it’s a sign he makes his debut in the MCU eventually.

Avengers #31

THE TEMPTATION OF ANTHONY STARK!

Special Oversized Issue! Trapped in an icy cave at the dawn of time, Tony Stark has lost most of his armor and a good chunk of his mind.

And tonight when the sun goes down and the devil comes round again, Iron Man may very well lose whatever’s left of his soul. A dark tale of hell and ice and iron, unlike any Golden Avenger story you’ve ever read, featuring the gorgeously gritty visuals of guest artist Gerardo Zaffino (CONAN THE BARBARIAN). Rated T+

I’m back onboard reading Avengers now after the new story arc kicked of in Issue #27.

Morbius #4

THE MONSTER CALLED MORBIUS!

Michael Morbius has always been a man of science. But he’s also a man of pride, and when those two traits combine, the results have been catastrophic. This time is no different!

Whatever Morbius has wrought havoc on his genetics – with his humanity inching closer to memory with every passing moment!

This while a figure from his past returns, with Morbius dead in her sights. Rated T+

I’m behind reading but have been picking up Morbius in hopes it’s a good read and to hopefully get me prepared when the movie hits theaters. Plus, this is a great looking cover.

Spirits Ghost Rider Mother of Demons #1

BURNING OUT OF THE PAGES OF GHOST RIDER!

Since the dawn of man, she has birthed the worst of humanity’s ills… Her kin call her mama while men curse her name: LILITH! And when all the thrones of every netherworld are united, they shall call her by a new name: QUEEN.

With art by definitive GHOST RIDER artist ROLAND BOSCHI! Rated T+

There is also a Stephanie Hans Variant, which the picture has not been released but could be a cover people seek out, she has her fans.

Big Ghost Rider fan so this is a must, just for the read.

Star Wars Darth Vader #1

‘JOIN ME, AND TOGETHER, WE CAN RULE THE GALAXY AS FATHER AND SON!’ THE TRAGEDY OF DARTH VADER CONTINUES!

In the shattering climax of The Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader infamously reveals his true relationship to Luke Skywalker and invites his son to rule the galaxy at his side. But Luke refuses — plunging into the abyss beneath Cloud City rather than turn to the Dark Side. We all remember Luke’s utter horror in this life-altering moment. But what about Vader?

In this new epic chapter in the Darth Vader saga, the dark lord grapples with Luke’s unthinkable refusal and embarks on a bloody mission of rage-filled revenge against everything and everyone who had a hand in hiding and corrupting his only son. But even as he uncovers the secrets of Luke’s origins, Vader must face shocking new challenges from his own dark past. Writer Greg Pak and artist Raffaele Ienco unleash Darth Vader on his dark quest of vengeance and discovery this February! With covers by InHyuk Lee! Rated T

Being a long time Darth Vader fan, these are must pickups. They can keep rebooting this title all the want, I’ll keep on picking up and reading. Plus, you can’t beat a Inhyuk Lee cover for the regular cover.

Venom #23

VENOM ISLAND COMES ALIVE!

They say there’s no rest for the wicked, and few creatures in the Marvel Universe are as wicked as CARNAGE.

Face front, readers — the seeds of next year’s VENOM event are already beginning to grow… Rated T+

Gotta continue to see where this Venom story goes with Donny Cates at the writing helm.

  1. This is kind of off topic, but did anyone see that there will be a Facsimile edition for Hulk 182, which I think someone here called out they should do that to bookend issue 181 given it has a cameo of wolverine and there’s a facsimile for issue 180 as well.

and it’ I think it comes out in March.

    1. They should just do a facsimile of every issue starting with #1… make it come out monthly. If they can arrange them to be in spinner racks at the local Walgreens and or CVS that would make the nostalgia even better when I go and buy them to read.
