Every week, hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 1/8/20
Returning Favorites
Venom #22 – Dylan has a little surprise this issue. The Marvels X cover is phenomenal.
Kill Whitey Donovan #2 – First issue did well out of the gate, helped along by a movie option. Second issues tend to have smaller print runs so this could be a good grab and hold.
New #1’s
Daphne Byrne #1 – The creepiest looking Hill House book yet. A must for horror fans.
Reprint of the Week
Dollar Comics Brave And The Bold #197 – First wedding for Batman and Catwoman.
Marvels X #1 – Prequel to the Alex Ross Earth X trilogy. Looks awesome.
For the Cover
Harley Quinn And Poison Ivy #5 Joshua Middleton Poison Ivy Cover – DC has been doing a good job of providing great artists on the B cover of this series. Middleton handles the choirs on this round. The Ivy cover is pretty great.
Ones to Watch
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #101 – First appearance of Venus De Milo in the comic series. Could be a draw.
Star #1 – Not going to lie, there will be a ton of these out there. But still grabbing a JSC cover for myself. Some great variants on this one, many can be grabbed cheap on eBay currently.
Small Press Pick of the Week
White Ash #1 – New Scout series that looks awesome. Welcome to White Ash, a small smudge of a town in western Pennsylvania, where mining is a generational calling and the secrets are buried deeper than the coal in the mountain. As Aleck Zwerg tries to escape that legacy and head off to college, he falls into the orbit of the enigmatic Lillian Alden. Together, they race down a dangerous path, leading Aleck to uncover a secret about his family that changes everything he knows about himself and White Ash. And now, if he leaves, there will be no one left to protect the people of the town from an ancient evil that has just returned.
Pick of the Week
Star Wars Rise Of Kylo Ren #2 – first one creeped up on people. This second issue could have a smaller print run and be harder to find.
Venus De Milo always reminds me of the Simpsons episode where homer ate the Gummi Venus De Milo. Rarest gummy of them all homer stole from a candy expo. And how homer removed it from the baby sitters pants when it stuck to her because she sat on it.
“That’s sexual harassment, Mr. Simpson!”
That is one of my favorite episodes.
Love that episode too! Totally forgot about it, nice throwback
I love that episode! It might be my favorite. “I just wanted her sweet, sweet, suh-suh-suh sweet CAN”
“So Mr. Simpson, you admit it. You wanted to touch her can.”
