Eternals Gets Official Synopsis from Marvel Studios

Marvel has released it’s official synopsis for the Eternals movie that is part of their next phase of the MCU.

First reported (well, first read from HeroicHollywood.com, I’m not entirely sure if they were the first to report this), here is the synopsis.

“Marvel Studios’ The Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, The Deviants.
The outstanding ensemble cast include Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris, Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani as the cosmic-powered Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as the intelligent inventor Phastos, Salma Hayak as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak, Lia McHugh as the eternally young, old-coul Sprite, Don Lee as the powerful Gilgamesh, Barry Keoghan as the aloof longer Druig, and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena. Kit Harrington was cast as Dane Whitman.
Directed by Chloe Zhao, who helmed the critically acclaimed Sundance film The Rider, and produced by Kevin Feige, The Eternals opens in U.S. theaters on November 6, 2020.”

Let’s break down the characters in this list on their first appearances. Most debuted in the Eternals title with a few with a more rich history from the mind of Kirby.

Ikaris – First Appearance was in Eternals #1.

Sersi – First Appearance as Circe was in Strange Tales #109 and as Sersi (yes, a name spelling change but Kirby has confirmed this is the same character) in Eternals #3.

Kingo – First appearance in Eternals #11.

Makkari – First as Eternal was in Eternals #5. He was also known as Mercury (Red Raven Comics #1) and Hurricane (Captain America Comics #1) prior to Eternals appearance.

Phastos – First Appearance was in Eternals #1 Vol. 2 from 1985.

Ajak – First in Eternals #2.

Sprite – First appearance in Eternals #9.

Gilgamesh – First in Eternals #13.

Druig – First in Eternals #11.

Thena – First in the Eternals was in Eternals #5.  She was known as Minerva in Red Raven Comics #1 and then as Corona in New Eternals: Apocalypse Now #1 from 2000.

Dane Whitman – First Appearance was in Avengers #47.

The Deviants made their first in Eternals #1.

What does everyone think of the synopsis? Sounds like they’re really sticking to the origins from the comics from the first volume, which is fine by me.

    1. Yep ans so is Thanos. Makes me wonder if he will make his way back from the so called “dead” in future films.

  1. Back in September Tony let me do a write up which had prominent Deviant first appearances listed. If anyone is looking to track them down here is the link: https://comicsheatingup.net/2019/09/12/eternally-speculating/#comments
Might be a good time to pick up Eternlas keys if you haven’t yet. We are in that grey area where not much has been released.for a while now. Prices have gone down on all but the highest graded keys. That won’t last long. Once official trailers are released the prices will spike.

    1. Yeah, when trailers release, sell sell sell.. cause once the movie debuts, those that missed out seeking these out will want, soon after the demand will decrease..

  2. I am pretty sure we are getting an Eternals Omnibus around November or December which should include the Eternals saga from the 70s Thor run and all of their other apperances. I loved Eternals when I was a kid. I would rather wait on the Omnibus. I am so tired of chasing old back issues every time there is a movie. I’m a reader not a speculator.

    1. Yup, I like picking up trades and such myself to read. If it’s Marvel, there’s a good chance it’s in their Marvel Unlimited app. Pay your $69 a year and have access to just about all their back issues. They have the full Eternals run on it and most of the Thor silver and bronze age issues.
