Poyo’s Trade and Hardcover Picks of the Week

We shouldn’t just collect or flip books, we should also read them. A good story can make your purchase well worth the money spent if you ask me. After all, we buy books to read for entertainment right? Even if you can’t flip them, reading is just as rewarding.

We tend to focus on mostly the floppy copies each week and kind of ignore the trades and hardcovers that come out week after week.

I’m a big Perez fan. I’m not an avid reader of Wonder Woman but I can appreciate the art though.

Wonder Woman by George Perez TPB Vol 04

George Perez’s storied run on Wonder Woman continues in these tales from Wonder Woman #36-45 and Wonder Woman Annual #2!

First, the Amazons prepare for the Feast of Five, then Diana invites delegates from Man’s World to join the festivities on Themyscira-which soon descend into chaos!

I’m becoming a fan of hardcovers over the softer trade books. They just look really nice on the bookshelf. This next pick is a book I picked up the first issue but have yet to actually read. I skimmed but wanted to wait for the trade or now the hardcover to read more story in one sitting. Lemire is just a great story teller.

Berserker Unbound Volume 1 HC

Lemire! Deodato Jr.! A merciless sword and sorcery warrior finds himself blasted through a wormhole to a modern day metropolis where he must protect those around him from an evil wizard determined to send him to hell.

From the Eisner Award-winning team of Jeff Lemire, Mike Deodato Jr., and Frank Martin, comes this urban warrior fantasy series!

Collecting issues #1-#4 of Berserker Unbound and featuring a sketchbook section and pinups by Mike Mignola, Andrea Sorrentino, Dustin Nguyen, and more!

I’m a Kubert fan so this is just a must, with a new edition (and I don’t own any other editions). I also love true stories about survival.

Fax From Sarajevo TPB (New Edition)

A brand-new edition of the greatest work from comics master Joe Kubert!

The astonishing true story of a family in Sarajevo, Bosnia, trapped in a city under siege as war and genocide rage around them, with only a fax machine to communicate. On the receiving end of these faxes from his trapped friend, Kubert brilliantly illustrates their struggle toward freedom against the worst kind of odds.

It’s the tale of a very real war, told from the perspective of innocent victims, but it’s also full of strength, survival, and love.

Being a fan of Justin Jordan since I was first introduced to his book Spread, his books are a definite on the pickup and read list. I haven’t even read my floppy copies of Reaver but the trade will help me sit and read the first arc when I find the time.

Reaver TPB Vol 01

Deep within the untamed continent of Madaras, a darkness builds that must be stopped at all costs.

To prevent the end of this new world, the Imperials assemble six of their most despicable prisoners-a turncoat, a skin eater, a sorcerer, his bodyguard, a serial killer, and the Devil’s Son.

They are Hell’s Half-Dozen. JUSTIN JORDAN (LUTHER STRODE) and REBEKAH ISAACS (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) create a grim fantasy comic for a post-Game of Thrones world. Collects REAVER #1-6
