Previews gives us a glimpse of what’s to come. Here’s the spotlight new books coming out of February Previews for the smaller publishers that include Dark Horse, IDW, Image and others.

Here’s some of the books we’re likely adding to our pre-orders pulls and subscribes.

Dark Horse Books

The hit new series from Lemire continues.

Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy #6

With dead bodies piling up, and a young boy’s future on the line, Skulldigger and Detective Reyes confront the psychopathic Grimjim–and each other–in a final showdown that determines the fate of Spiral City.

”Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy is a new kind of vigilante duo fraught with all the terror and bad choices any sociopath would cherish. There is no good or bad, just before and after.” -The Brazen Bull

This series just hit stands recently and got great praise, which created some heat on the secondary market. We even got a giveaway going on currently for the ashcan preview variant and a regular cover. So don’t forget to enter if you haven’t already done so.

BANG! #4

Matt Kindt! Wilfredo Torres!Paige Turnier: defenseless old lady or mastermind detective?

As Paige navigates these dual roles, superspy Thomas Cord realizes he has memories of this woman from before he was born . . . and these memories may be the key to protecting reality from those who would see it unraveled.

”A great f—–d up blend of James Bond and Tintin.” -Keanu Reeves

The first issue hits stands on April 22nd but this is still a series I”m looking forward to as a huge Alien fan.

Alien: The Original Screenplay #2

The intercepted voice transmission has been interpreted–a dire warning . . . but is it too late? As the crew continues to survey the massive pyramid structure, they find an entrance. Who goes in, won’t come out alone . . .

Adapted from the original 1976 screenplay by Dan O’Bannon (author of Moebius’s The Long Tomorrow, cowriter of Total Recall, writer/director of The Return of the Living Dead).

Another book I’m looking forward to checking out. Issue #1 comes out April 1st but I’m really digging these covers. They look like those late 70, early 80s mystery drama novels from back in the day. I just hope the story lives up to the covers.

Spy Island #2

Super-agent Nora Freud is fine, thank you. Yes, she’s stuck on an island in the Bermuda Triangle without a clear mission. She’s running low on sunscreen.

Her sister has just arrived.  And the body of a man Nora recently assassinated just floated in with the tide. But. She. Has. This. Totally. Under. Control.

Spy Island is a four-issue special limited series by the creative team that brought you Man-Eaters.

Neil Gaiman is a great writer. Here’s his take on all those classic Norse Mythology stories from his novel into comic book form.

Norse Mythology I #1

GAIMAN! RUSSELL! MIGNOLA! ORDWAY!#1 New York Times bestselling author Neil Gaiman and Eisner Award-winning comics legend P. Craig Russell breathe new life into the ancient Norse stories by taking readers through the creation of the Nine Worlds to the epic origin and adventures of Thor, Odin, and Loki all the way to the end of life–Ragnarok.

Having previously written about deities in American Gods and The Sandman, Gaiman teams with Russell to finally bring readers to follow the northern gods in their own setting in this comic book adaptation of the hit novel!

IDW Books

I absolutely loved Canto and I’m glad it’s coming back with a one-shot. But here’s to hoping we get more Canto in the future, more than just one-shot love.

Canto & Clockwork Fairies One Shot (Cover A – Zucker)

CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED, FAN FAVORITE CANTO RETURNS! David M. Booher, Drew Zucker, Vittorio Astone, and Deron Bennett return to Canto’s world, following the brave clockwork hero as he leads his people out from their home in Arcana to find somewhere-and something-new!

When Canto encounters a group of captured fairies, it’s up to him to liberate them, but can he do it without being captured himself? Find out in this one-shot bridging the hit mini-series and the second arc, coming in Summer 2020.

As a long time John Layman fan, this one has my interest. Could heat up but I’m anticipating a great read and kick ass art from Bradshaw with this one.

Bermuda #1 (of 4) (Cover A – Bradshaw)

Presenting a fantastic new adventure by New York Times best selling and multiple-Eisner award winning writer John Layman (CHEW, DETECTIVE) and gorgeous art by Nick Bradshaw (SPIDER-MAN, WOLVERINE).

There’s a region in the Pacific Ocean where planes disappear, ships are lost, and traveling souls go missing… never to be heard from again. And there’s an island within this place, mysterious and uncharted, an island untouched by time and civilization, where all who are lost end up. Bermuda lives here. She’s 16, scrappy, and a survivor, and this has been the only life she has ever known… until today. She’s discovered something on her Island that will either open a doorway between her world and ours… or destroy it!

This book from Brian Level and Kate Sherron gives off The Crow type of vibe and story but in a completely different sense of the dead coming back for some type of redemption.

Chained to the Grave #1 (of 5) (Cover A – Sherron)

Brian Level & Andrew Eschenbach (w) o Kate Sherron (a & c) Outlaw Roy Mason has come back from the dead, chained to the headstone that marked his grave. It’s a lawless time, a magical time, and the undead Roy soon finds himself caught between a rock and a hard place as he sets out in search of treasure.

But Roy, trying to do right by the wife and children he left behind, soon finds out that everything is not always as it seems… Writers Brian Level & Andrew Eschenbach (Darth Vader, Thanos, Deadpool) and artist Kate Sherron (Invader Zim, The Amazing World of Gumball) bring you a tail of intrigue, murder, magic, and the good ol’ wild, wild west!

Road of Bones was a great read with great interior art so this next title from the same creative team has my interest.

Sea of Sorrows #1 (of 4)

Deep sea adventure with a horrific twist! From the creative team behind last year’s hit horror series, ROAD OF BONES, comes an all-new tale of bone-chilling terror! In the aftermath of the Great War, the North Atlantic is ripe for plunder by independent salvage crews.

When a former naval officer hires the SS Vagabond, he leads the ship to a sunken U-boat, and a fortune in gold. Tensions mount as the crew prepares to double cross each other, but the darkness of the ocean floor holds deeper terrors than any of them have bargained for! Plunge headfirst into the icy waters of dread with another historic tale of terror from writer Rich Douek, and artist Alex Cormack.

Image Books

Anyone read Dead Body Road? Well, it’s back and I’m anticipating another great read with round two.

Dead Body Road Bad Blood #1 (of 6)

SERIES PREMIERE Bree Hale has left a lot behind in her life. Crime. The military. But she can’t leave behind her own family, and when the local crime boss puts a hit out on her brother, there’s nothing she won’t do to save him. Absolutely nothing.

Skybound’s pulse-pounding action series returns, with writer JUSTIN JORDAN (REAVER, LUTHER STRODE) and artist BENJAMIN TIESMA delivering an explosive tale of revenge like you’ve never seen before!

If you didn’t read the first story arc, TFAW still has Dead Body Road TPB for dirt cheap.

Jason Aaron rarely disappoints so bringing back The Goddamned with a new story arc has got me excited.

Goddamned Virgin Brides #1 (of 5)

NEW STORY ARC Writer JASON AARON and artist R.M. GUÃRA return to the stark and brutal world of THE GODDAMNED for the long-awaited second chapter of their biblical-noir epic. Genesis 6:4. ‘…the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men. And they bore children to them…’ In the time before the Great Flood, the world of man is a place of wanton violence and unbridled depravity. But hidden high atop a mountain, there is a very different sort of world. One without men.

Here, the holy sisters at a secret nunnery live in paradise, a new Eden, rearing their flock of orphaned girls to embrace their future as blessed Brides of the Sons of God. But when Sharri and Jael, two girls on the cusp of flowering, uncover what it truly means to become a Bride, they realize there’s only one way to escape the bonds of matrimony: run like hell.

After reading the first issue that just hit stands, this is a must.

Mirka Andolfo Mercy #3 (of 6) (Cover A – Andolfo)

END OF STORY ARC The first story arc of MIRKA ANDOLFO’s Gothic tale comes to an end. Lady Hellaine finds a love interest…or is this just a part of her machinations?

Who are the ruthless ‘hunters,’ and what are they tracking? And what’s their relationship with whatever lies in the abandoned mines?

Nailbiter was one of the last Image series I bought every issue from beginning to end. I’m hoping Williamson brings hi A Game to this next volume.

Nailbiter Returns #2

Love is in the air, and it smells like MURDER! Alice, the daughter of the Nailbiter, comes face-to-face with a man that knows who kidnapped her mother.

How much blood is she willing to shed to get answers?

The new series I’m really looking forward to. And no, not because I’m currently in Texas.

That Texas Blood #1 (Cover A – Jacob Phillips)

SERIES PREMIERE CRIMINAL colorist and first time solo artist JACOB PHILLIPS and writer CHRIS CONDON break onto the scene with a brand-new ongoing series!

Like Paris, Texas gut-punched by No Country for Old Men, this mature neo-Western crime series kicks off when the search for a casserole dish leads to a dark and tense confrontation on Sheriff Joe Bob Coates’ 70th birthday.

‘CHRIS & JACOB pull off something remarkable here. A vivid and bright story that nails a thorough sense of foreboding and darkness. A shocking amount of talent for a duo so fresh to comics!’ -CHIP ZDARSKY (SEX CRIMINALS, Daredevil)

Okay, this one isn’t your floppy comic and I”m sneaking in a new Hardcover by the great Brubaker and Phillips, which is just a must pickup.

Pulp HC

A gorgeous original graphic novel from the bestselling creators of KILL OR BE KILLED, MY HEROES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN JUNKIES, and CRIMINAL.

Max Winters, a pulp writer in 1930s New York, finds himself drawn into a story not unlike the tales he churns out at five cents a word-tales of a Wild West outlaw dispensing justice with a six-gun. But will Max be able to do the same when pursued by bank robbers, Nazi spies, and enemies from his past?

One part thriller, one part meditation on a life of violence, PULP is unlike anything award-winning BRUBAKER & PHILLIPS have ever done before. This celebration of pulp fiction set in a world on the brink is another must-have hardcover from one of comics’ most acclaimed teams.
