Kickstarter Spotlight: Imaginary Forces

Kickstarters are great for finding new books of interest for collecting, reading, and speculating. Check out Imaginary Forces, a cross between Stranger Things and Shazam! This project is launching soon on Kickstarter.

Haunted by the ghosts of his past, young adult Todd tries to cope with the loss of his parents. He discovers his parents were not just mere comic book creators; their books activate latent abilities in him and his new foster sister. When a sinister faction learns of his heritage, they will stop at nothing to take all the power for themselves.

“Imaginary Forces” is a contemporary fantasy story with a strong late 80s/90s influence. The group comradery and secret mythology undertones of Stranger Things mixed with the troubled life situation and temporary powers of Shazam! The screenplay is an award winner at the 2019 Canada
Independent Film Festival
and a finalist at the Canadian Diversity Film Festival.

With the aid of his new foster family and mentor, Todd works to overcome his mental health issues. They also delve into the history of these abilities. Discovering the knowledge goes as far back as Indigenous cave drawings, he learns each generation an unknown few have the ability to transcribe their power into words and drawings. These few saturate and imbue their quintessence (dark matter/energy) directly into these works allowing anyone with the inherent gene to fully emerge into their powered forms. These forms are how the character views themselves in their mind’s eye; it cannot be changed, just influenced by their experiences. The mentor figure has a retro 70s D&D wizard look while Todd and his foster sister Laura emerge into more modern looking beings. This varies from mecha style suits to monstrous beasts to magical avatars etc.
