It’s been a few weeks since the last Throwback Thursday, which I apologize for. Been busy juggling work, school for kids, crap to do around the house and just quite frankly, trying to find any motivation at all is exhausting.
This week I’m heading back to April of 1972..Β where Marvel kicked off a new title and the creators Roy Thomas and Gil Kane revamped a relatively unknown character into someone we, the comic book world, all know today…..
As Adam Warlock, a sort of messiah into the Marvel Universe in Marvel Premiere #1.
Now, this isn’t his first true appearance, only his first as Adam Warlock. Prior to this issue, he was Him and made his first appearances in Fantastic Four #66 which was just an origin, he actually does not appear at all until Fantastic Four #67.
It’s only a matter of time before Warlock makes it into the MCU. We already got a teaser at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 that he’s likely coming. According to Gunn, he scrapped his appearance in that release cause the thought there was already too many characters to go around, saving him for a future release. We gonna see him appear in the next installment? Are you ready if he does?
These books are all key books and still pretty affordable I think, at least in the reach of most collectors budgets.
Who has these in their collections? Who’s been eyeballing them for theirs? What’s your favorite Warlock story or comic? Tell us in the comments or fire up a conversation in the forums if you dare.
One of my favorite covers is Warlock 15. Favorite story may be the marvel 2-in-one Annual #2 and Avengers Annual #7.
What D -Rog said. Strange Tales #178 as well which is the 1st appearance of Magus. I collected all things Warlock in the early 90s. Patiently waiting for his MCU appearance. His cocoon cameo at the end of GG V2 is reminiscent of FF#66.
I have FF 66 & 67 but still need Marvel Premier #1.
You know you’re itching to click those links and go buy it.. You need that book.. Poyo says, buy more comics! π
This dude had like 5 first appearances. They need to keep it to just one, dammit!
Well, as Warlock, just one. Prior to that he was Him. It certainly is one of those trickier types of firsts.. you go with the appearance where they have a different name or go with the one that’s still relevant? Or just go with all of them.. π
