Comic Picks of the Week For Delivery 7/15/20

Every week, hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 7/15/20.

New #1’s
Murder Hobo Broken Beaten & Buggered #1 – Quirky new Scout Comics series that looks fun. Think Rick and Morty humor. In the Lands of High Adventure, brave bands of heroes undertake dangerous quests in search of fame and fortune. The exploits of these fearless explorers, who dare delve into the deepest of dungeons, will be sung about by the bards for eons. This is not their story. No, this is a tale of what happens when well-intentioned groups of would-be adventurers recruit the wrong kind of “hero,” the dreaded Murder Hobo. Selfish assassins who thrive on illicit acts and unprovoked bursts of violence, these agents of chaos can foil even the best-laid plans. Follow the exploits of Drunk-o and Nymph-o, a pair of Murder Hobos with different methods, but the same goal: to keep all the loot for themselves.

Offworld Sci-Fi Double Feature #1 and 2 – Great looking Sci-Fi lip book. Two stories in one issue. In “Interstellar Dust” by C.J. Hudson and Igor Wolski, an intergalactic prison transport vessel breaks down, and the crew and a band of less hardened criminals do whatever they can to survive a riot in deep space. In “Hazel” by M.L.S. Weech and Collin Fogel, Hazel is the newest member of the Deep Block Terror Squad. As her team begins its mission to shut down a gang’s supply chain, she sets out to prove she’s the best

Sacred Six #1 – Surprisingly good read. Ties in a few characters, all-new Draculina, Pantha, Nyx, and Chastity, into the Vampirella world. I like the A cover and loved the D cover.

Snake Eyes Deadgame #1 – Like many guys my age, I love Snake Eyes, but throw in Rob Liefeld goofiness I am hooked for this book. Looking forward it as a Joe fan and a reader. Two Snake Eyes covers and both have feet. There is a Scarlet cover as well that is pricey.

2020 iWolverine #1 – Ugh… Sorry.. New Wolverine Story featuring Albert the Robot Wolverine and Elsie Dee

Empyre #1 – the new big crossover kicks in. Changes to come for a bunch of characters and this is where it begins.

Dose #1 – New indy series from It’s Alive. Looks really interesting. Dose! is a unique reinterpretation of the super hero genre which explores what would happen to society if the technology and superhero population introduced in the Silver Age of Comics grew exponentially through today. Super Powers are mundane, kaiju walk the streets, and cybernetic enhancement surgery is just a phone call away, if you have the cubits to pay for it, that is. Within this environment, we meet the Screw Worm, an unemployed, ex-teenage metahero sidekick with a growing dependency on drugs and too much time on his hands. Through a series of calamitous events, the Screw Worm unwittingly stumbles onto a conspiracy that threatens to hasten the destruction of a world already teetering on the edge of collapse.

Engineward #1 – New Vault series. Earth is an ancient myth, long forgotten. Now, the word of the god-like Celestials is absolute, and they rule with brutal efficiency. When Joss, an Engineward, discovers and reactivates the head of an ancient ghoulem, she finds all is not as intended. Her destiny – and that of her world – lies somewhere far beyond the borders of her shantytown.

Ones to Watch
Nightwing #72 – We ran spoilers for this one as well. Ric Grayson and Punchline, plus Batgirls gets a beat down.

Amazing Spider-Man #44 – Marvel is going to start exploring the Kindred character. This could be a big issue in the story line according to Marvel.

Catwoman #23 – the return of the cocaine fueled villain, Snowflame. He has become a fan favorite as a result of his early appearances.

For the Cover

Red Sonja Age Of Chaos #5 Derrick Chew Sneak Peek Cover – I like Derrick Chew’s art. This is a good looking cover.

The Crossover Potential One
Rock & Roll Biographies Sublime – I love these comics that cross genres. Adds a new level of potential buyers for the books.

The “No Brainers”
Immortal Hulk #35 – Always a pick up. Great story.

Venom #25 2nd Ptg – No denying the mystery character is on the cover. Plus a cameo of Virus.

Venom #26 – Full on first appearance of Virus. We ran the spoilers for this one. Lots of debate on it.

Small Press Picks of the Week
It Eats What Feeds It #1 – great story. A drop out answers an add for a handy man, gets something much more than he expected. Sexy, creepy, new Scout Series that is a blast to read.

The Big Two Pick of the Week
Dark Nights Death Metal #2 – We ran the spoilers. this could be the one to grab if people settle on this being the first appearance of the Robin King. Long term need to see how this shakes out.

  1. I won’t buy another Lifield book again. His art sucks. I’m not a professional artist and I know I can draw better then him. His proportion on snake eyes is so off, specially around his chest area. Yeah man no thank you I’ll buy an iwolverine #1 instead of that lol.

        1. You know what’s funny? Two NYCC ago we’re all at Midtown Comics Times Square and low and behold, who’s there? Liefeld, buying a Deadpool Chia Pet…. of course Anthony goes and gets a selfie with him.. I’m like.. meh, kept looking at comics. 😛

            1. Yeah, I saw him grabbing your butt cheeks.. he’s nice alright.. so about that NYCC hotel story…. oh wait, what goes on at NYCC, stays in NYCC. 😉

              1. The best was last year when we were drooling over Marguerite Bennett doodles she was doing at her table and chatting with her, suddenly in the corner of my eye and in the crowd Scott Snyder is making his way between us and the crowds, basically pushing to get through. I’m like, “What’s up Snyder” and he smiles and nods.. but then right behind him following is Capullo.. who happens to stop and of course is basically hugging Anthony, to snap a selfie.

          1. At least he got a free one. Ha.
Dropped $300 on Liefeld at a con (got some stuff for a buddy included) including a few CGC SS books…asked him at the end for a selfie, he refused saying that will be another $40. I mentioned how I just gave him $300, he laughed and said love the northeast guilt. Then he took a picture with a cosplayer (who didn’t even ask him) Infront of me. Safe to say I’m not a fan. But I will grab the Snake Eyes book as new characters.

            1. Did he really tell you $40? Ughh.. If I was famous, I would never charge for my signature or for a selfie.. but then again, I would probably say no to everyone anyways.

              1. Yup. He did give me a free signed deadpool toilet cover though. You know the paper mache thin ones. Yup, that was a bitch to get home in one piece.

              2. I remember 2 years ago at SDCC he was doing a signing and he had a line. I went up front to see him and saw that he was charging $40 per signature and $80 or so for CGC SS. I told my wife, “saw him not impressed I’ll take my NM 92 back with me”. I mean dude we the people are who made you who you are. If we didn’t like Deadpool, you wouldn’t be anybody. But I guess not all people see that.

                1. I don’t pay for autographs. To me, if you’re a celebrity who charges for autographs, well, you either pissed all your money away or well, you probably pissed all your money away… I can’t think of any other reason except, you didn’t make enough or you lived beyond what you were bringing in…

            1. He’s basically saying he’d rather have to pay to take a shit in his own home than buy Liefeld’s art.. his comment almost made me spit my coffee out when I read it the first time.. 🙂

              1. This is one of the rare instances when a joke being explained not only doesn’t result in the joke being unfunny, but in fact makes it funnier.

  2. Those Dynamite sneak peak cropped covers are lame. I’ll be getting that uncropped Red Sonja Chew cover next month.

  3. Anthony, damnit, did you give me FOMO about iWolverine!? I swear, if I come home today with iWolverine and Wolverine 38 under my arm, I’m going to be so pissed.

    1. See, that’s why when you read my picks on Monday night.. then read Anthony’s on Tuesday night, you need to go back and read my drek picks again…

Poyo Drek Pick > Anthony Picks where Anthony Pick = Poyo Drek Pick

I think that’s the right math equation to follow.. 🙂

      1. But, but, but Albert has claws, and the cover says Wolverine. It’s gotta be awesome! It’s just gotta!
