Covrprice.com Top Ten for Week Ending 8/14/20

Since Covrprice.com  came on the scene, they have become a go to spot for watching eBaytrends on comics. They scour thousands of eBay sales to cultivate data to spotlight the hottest selling comics. Here is this week’s Top Ten Comics: (Please note, potential spoilers do follow, and, these results are for auction that closed last week. )

#1 DARK NIGHTS DEATH METAL LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHTS #1 (DC, 2020)

This just may be the hottest new release that we’ve ever seen. BATMAN DAMNED was the one book we thought would hold that record for a while. However, this first appearance of THE ROBIN KING sold a massive 306 copies JUST last week, had a 7-day trend of 105% and had a high sale of $129.99 for a CGC 9.8 (pre-sale). Well, let’s see where this goes.

#2 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #375 (MARVEL, 1993)

The 1st appearance of Eddie Brock’s ex-wife, Anne Weying, will appear in Venom #27 this week as… well, we’ll save it for those who don’t want it spoiled quite yet. However, those who have heard the rumor are busy buying up her first appearance in this issue #375. It sold 88 copies, had a 7-day trend of 104% and had a high sale of $145 for a CGC 9.8.

#3 DARK NIGHTS DEATH METAL LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHTS #1 KAARE ANDREWS 1:25 VARIANT (DC, 2020)

As we mentioned above, we’ve never seen an incentive variant sell so many copies AND at such a high price in its first week of release. This first appearance of THE ROBIN KING sold 106 copies, had a 7-day trend of 83% and had a high sale of $338 for a NM raw pre-sale. While it’s currently selling for about $175 to $220, this book is still selling well despite a huge number of copies listed. Can the demand hold?

#4 CAPTAIN MARVEL #18 (MARVEL, 2020)

The first appearance of Carol Danver’s Kree half-sister, Lauri-Ell, is still selling well with 55 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 130% and had a high sale of $29 for a raw sale. However, since that high sale, prices have recently dropped to $13.

#5 ICE CREAM MAN #20 DR. SEUSS HOMAGE VARIANT (IMAGE, 2020)

Sometimes all it takes is just the RIGHT homage to move sales, and this was it. Dr. Seuss is such an obvious homage and it works perfectly for this series. Plenty of collectors were looking for a copy as it sold 64 copies, had a 7-day trend of 92% and had a high sale of $23.99 for a raw copy. This is already going to a 2nd print with another Seuss homage of “Oh, the Places you’ll Go”.

#6 STAR WARS BOUNTY HUNTERS #1 2ND PRINT (MARVEL, 2020)

This 2nd print had plenty of collectors talking prior to release. However, for the first two days, this cover struggled to get past the cover price. After a few days, it found its momentum and sold 48 copies, had a 7-day trend of 82% and had a high sale of $18.99 for a raw copy. This issue does have the first appearance of NAKANO LASH (a Nautolan female bounty hunter connected to Boba Fett), so if she ever appears in any upcoming Star Wars project… then this could be a great book to have.

#7 THOR #5 (MARVEL, 2020)

You know this by now… this is the first FULL appearance of THE BLACK WINTER. And yeah, this issue is HOT right now (maybe even Knull hot?). This issue sold 39 copies, had a 7-day trend of 101% and had a high sale of $395 for a CGC 9.8.

#8 VENOM LETHAL PROTECTOR #2 (MARVEL, 1993)

This issue is the first appearance of the Venom villain team called THE JURY. This includes characters by the name of BOMBLAST, FIREARM, SENTRY, SCREECH, and RAMSHOT. There is speculation that RAMSHOT is VIRUS in Donnie Cates’ current Venom storyline, hence the increase in sales for this issue. This connection is directly due to the similarities in their suits. Well, we won’t have to wait too long as the identity of VIRUS is supposed to be revealed in issue #27, which releases this Wednesday the 12th. This speculation sold 31 copies, had a 7-day trend of 128% and had a high sale of $89.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#9 VENOM #26

The first full appearance of VIRUS has this issue moving up. It sold 38 copies, had a 7-day trend of 98% and had a high sale of $99.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#10 THOR #4 2ND PRINT (MARVEL, 2020)

The internal art of the first cameo (argued between this and THOR #2) of BLACK WINTER is now on the cover on this 2nd print. While the virgin variant stole some of its thunder, this cover sold 49 copies, had a 7-day trend of 71% and had a high sale of $19.99 for a raw copy.
