#10 ULTIMATE MARVEL TEAM-UP #5 (MARVEL, 2001) When the Ultimate Universe modeled their Nick Fury on Samuel L Jackson, it just worked… perfectly. So, when it came to casting Nick Fury for the MCU, there was only one very obvious choice. What’s surprising is how LONG it took this first appearance of ULTIMATE NICK FURY to trend. It sold 13 copies, had a 7-day trend of 344% and had a high sale of $400 for a CGC 9.8. Keep in mind, Samuel L Jackson’s likeness wasn’t really used until ULTIMATES #2.

#9 AVENGERS EARTH’S MIGHTIEST HEROES #29 2ND PRINT (MARVEL, 2020) This features the first cover appearance of WAR WIDOW. However, the current market heat is around its 2nd print scarcity. It sold 17 copies, had a 7-day trend of 262% and had a high sale of $59.95 for a NM raw copy.

#8 SPIDER-VERSE #1 NAUCK WALMART VARIANT (SEALED) (MARVEL, 2019) While this issue features the first full appearance of Spider-Zero, it’s simply the awesome cover featuring some of the hottest Spider-based characters. While we wouldn’t call these Walmart exclusives rare, they have been selling really well, with most collectors buying the sealed 3 pack. It sold 35 copies, had a 7-day trend of 128% and had a high sale of $29.95 for a sealed raw set.

#7 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #55 PAT GLEASON VIRGIN EXCLUSIVE (MARVEL, 2020) This AWESOME cover has been talked about since the image was released over a month ago. However, the heat came for this Virgin exclusive from artist Pat Gleason’s site. Limited to 2,500 copies, it sold 20 copies, had a 7-day trend of 289% and had a high sale of $199.90 for a raw copy.

#6 THE MIGHTY AVENGERS #13 (MARVEL, 2008) There are loose rumors (not even sure where they originated from) that the SECRET AVENGERS will appear in the MCU. This issue contains the first appearance of the Secret Warriors, though there are several different versions… so it’s unknown which team this rumor is favoring. This rumor spread enough to move 45 copies, had a 7-day trend of 133% and had a high sale of $99.99 for a CGC 9.6.

#5 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #365 (MARVEL, 1992) Wow, this first preview appearance of Spider-Man 2099 really took off recently. Collectors are prepping for INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE 2, and helped move 49 copies with a 7-day trend of 129% and had a high sale of $265 for a CGC 9.8.

#4 NOMAD GIRL WITHOUT A WORLD #1 (MARVEL, 2009) Recently, Marvel Scooper Roger Wardell reappeared on Twitter to share some FALCON AND THE WINTER speculations, specifically on how actress Erin Kellyman MAY be secretly playing the role of Ricki Barnes, Bucky’s Granddaughter… which will eventually lead her to taking on the NOMAD mantle. Keep in mind this is all very unconfirmed. However, that didn’t stop sales from catching on fire, helping her first full appearance as NOMAD (though she kind of had a cameo at the end of ONSLAUGHT REBORN #5 where she crossed over into our world… which is where this series picks up from) in this issue to move 20 copies with a 7-day trend of 382% and had a high sale of $29.99 for a raw copy.

#3 CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 (MARVEL, 1996) As noted above, Riki Barnes heat is strong. However, other sites who jumped on this news had it wrong! Causing this issue to move 84 copies with a 7-day trend of 349% and had a high sale of $249.99 for a CGC 9.8. Now, here’s the kicker.. many other places have claimed CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 as the first Ricki Barnes. However, she first appeared in Wizard’s HEROES REBORN ½ (both on the cover and almost every page within), which was printed two months before Captain America #1 in September 1996 (Captain America #1 released in November 1996). Granted, some of the debate that will come up surrounding this will be how it was a mail-away order from Wizard Magazine #61 (9/96). So, it really depends on how long it took Wizard to fulfill those orders. However, with that said, many collectors most likely hand this in hand before the November issue of Captain America #1. It’s also worth noting that his half issue also had a platinum variant. So, there you have it. If you had Ricki Barnes on your Bingo list for 2021, you win that square.

#2 CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 VARIANT (MARVEL, 1996) And yep, the variant for this book that littered 25 cent bins for years sold 24 copies, had a 7-day trend of 319% and had a high sale of $21.95 for a raw copy.

#1 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #55 (MARVEL, 2020) Finally, the hottest cover of December 2020. This amazing cover sold an incredible 289 copies, had a 7-day trend of 108% and had a high sale of $200 for a CGC 9.8 presale. Wow!

  1. Weren’t the stories in Heroes Reborn 1/2 previews and sketches? We know how most feel about previews. Unless there’s an original story it won’t be as sought after.

  2. Lately, Every time these Top 10 and Top 10 Runners-up come out I have to hulk around my long boxes to find the books listed. This time it’s the Captain America 1’s. Ugh…. my arms are hurting. 🙂

    1. Once upon a time I put numbers on my boxes and when I went through the box looking for something, I went ahead and jotted down the contents on a piece of paper. I then put that into a spreadsheet. Next time I needed to search for a book, I looked it up on my spreadsheet and knew exactly what box to go after instead of searching until found. 🙂

I did get about halfway through but never completed it. But it does help for the ones that are somewhat cataloged in not spending so much time searching.
