Blind Adam’s Hidden Gems Vol. 144

Greetings my Comics Heating Up family. Wow it is 2022 already. Before we make money with comics, I want to wish everyone a happy, awesome, and blessed 2022. I wish you all good health, stay safe, and get your shots, and I hope your hearts desires come true. Now lets make some money with comics cause you can’t teach that.

1. 2013 Fan Expo Vancouver Program – Stan Lee cover. To the GOAT of comic books Stan “The Man” Lee, Happy 99th birthday in heaven. Thank you for your creations and for the memories. This is a Stan cover and a convention program ,so not many of these survived the trip home and is a great collectible $15

2. Batman Urban Legends #4 – this for the CW fans, for the Batwoman fans, for the fans of Batwing. The CW’s Luke Fox, actor, the one that plays Batwing on the Batwoman show, wrote a Batwing story in this issue. It is still at cover price maybe, $8-10 at the most, but a great story Batwing needs more love #testify

3. Amazing Spiderman #196 and 197 – classic bronze age Spiderman written by Marv Wolfman. #196 has the gravestone of Aunt May on it, yes #400 is more know for the Aunt May Death. #197 is the final bronze/silver age Kingpin, just love this cover. My favorite era of Spiderman history and it is nice to see these books get the love they deserve. Between No Way Home, Hawkeye, and Daredevil the Kingpin is back. These go between $25-50 a pop so happy hunting

4. Flash #147 – second appearance of Reverse Flash. Flash #139 is a major key as people love the reverse flash but don’t realize that #147 is the second appearance of him. This is the case for a lot of the Flash’s rouges gallery. Captain Cold has his second in the Flash #114, however, #114 is the first Captain Cold in the Flash series as his first is in Showcase #8. Just snag the grade you can afford.

5. Comics Interview #27 – early preview of Casey Jones from TMNT. Might be the second appearance or first in preview of Casey Jones as Comics Interview either either pre-dates Raphael #1 or comes out a month or so after Raphael #1, its hard to tell with this magazine. Either way this is a must for TMNT completists and fans. $50-100

6. Tales of the TMNT #61 – Speaking of Turtles, this was the long running second TMNT series that was at Mirage that I do not think a lot of people took notice of. So hunt the bins for this expensive later issue. Cool note, Leonardo reads One Piece in the book, so comic character reading comics, which is awesomesauce.

7. Thing #35 – So Ms. Marvel (Kamal Khan) is coming to Disney+ and to the next Captain Marvel Movie. Rumor has it that Moonstone could be the villain, read it on the internet. Moonstone aka Karla Sofen, was once Ms Marvel herself, in Dark Avengers. There were only ever four people who had the Ms Marvel name, the other was Sharon Venture, who gets the name Ms. Marvel in this issue. I could see Disney sneaking her in the Marvels movie or the Ms Marvel Disney+ show.

8. John Wick #1 Bill Sienkiewicz Cover – John Wick is awesomesauce. This is the first appearance of John Wick in comics and has a cover by Bill Sienkiewicz, who is just a beast when it comes to covers. Copies sell for up to $50 but sometimes you can find it cheaper. There is also a 2nd Print cover for the book. With as great as these movies are how does this not get more love?

9. Spawn #283 – This Mattina cover to the Toddfather’s Spawn series apparently had a very low print run. Copies of this books are now selling for $24 and up. Crazy! Search the shelves for these.

10. GI Joe #1 2nd Print Art Adams Cover – Adams has been putting out some sexy and hot covers lately. This one features the 80’s bad girl Baroness and is hard to find. The original GI Joe #1 Subscription cover is cool, but I love the red background on this one, makes it pop.

11. Dark Avengers #2 2nd Print Variant – This is a rare 2nd print cover for Dark Avengers featuring Venom by Mike Deodato. Just a crazy cool cover.

12. Batman #563 – J Scott Campbell is more known for his Mary Jane and Danger Girl style female covers than he is for his male covers. This one is a cool JSC Cover featuring the Joker. $12 and up.

Well that is it for this week. Please stay safe wear the mask, get the shots. I have a close friend in the hospital because of this virus. Have a blessed 2022 love you all!

  1. Good stuff as usual Adam! I have the Sienkiewicz John Wick #1 variant in 9.8. I just bought it because John Wick is badass and so is Bill! $275 in 9.8. I wasn’t aware of the Batman #563. I am now. I’ve seen the cover and probably have it but it didn’t register it’s J Scott! Awesomesauce and excelsior bro!

  2. I also have the John Wick Sienkiewicz. It’s one of those books that might be bigger than people expected 20 years down the road.
