Poyo’s Spec and Picks for May 9th/10th, 2023

Welcome to this weeks spec and picks. This is where we pick the winners each week we (or shall I say myself) think will be spec worthy, a great read or just cool looking art on the cover.

Marvel Picks

Amazing Spider-Man #25 is a big anniversary issue. Basically they’re celebrating actually reaching issue #25 without a reboot yet. It’s quite the feat now in the Marvel Universe.

Anyways, story seems centered around Mary Jane. I hope they kill her off and keep her dead… Heh!

Lots of variants though… too many with such a big cover price tag! Pick the one you like most and leave it at that.

Amazing Spider-Man #25 (John Cassaday Variant)

Amazing Spider-Man #25

Cosmic Ghost Rider #3 (Woods Variant) is just an awesome variant cover. Picking this one up just for the cover alone..

Cosmic Ghost Rider #3 (Woods Variant)

Another book for the cover goes to Invincible Iron Man #6, brings back some serious nostalgia when I was picking up Iron Man books in the 80s and early 90s. It would be 1000 times better if the art on the front looked like some 80s magic..

Invincible Iron Man #6

If you can find for cheap, the Star Wars High Repubic Aja 1:25 Variant is going for decent money.

This one quickly sold out at TFAW and other online retailers.

Star Wars High Republic #9 (25 Copy Aja Variant)

DC Picks

It’s a second print of a facsimile but I’m a sucker for Batman and Spider-Man blank covers for some odd reason. This blank would make for some awesome commissions with some old school Batman on them I think.

Batman #357 Facsimile Edition (2nd Ptg Blank Variant)

Sometimes they catch some heat but most of the time they just make for decent reads. That goes to Batman White Knight Presents Generation Joker #1 (of 6) (Cover A – Sean Murphy) where Sean Murphy does a pretty good job with Batman story lines.

Batman White Knight Presents Generation Joker #1 (of 6) (Cover B – Mirka Andolfo Variant) – Pretty kick ass Mirka variant..
Batman White Knight Presents Generation Joker #1 (of 6) (Cover C – 1:25 Dan Mora Variant)
Batman White Knight Presents Generation Joker #1 (of 6) (Cover D – 1:50 Sean Murphy Black & White Variant)
Batman White Knight Presents Generation Joker #1 (of 6) (Cover E – 1:100 Sean Murphy Foil Variant)

Batman White Knight Presents Generation Joker #1 (of 6) (Cover A - Sean Murphy)

I like this one, Danger Street #6 (of 12) (Cover A – Jorge Fornes) for the cover.

Another one for the cover as I love the retro in bad shape cover art… Gotham Academy Maps of Mystery #1 (One Shot)

Indie and Small Publisher Picks

Something Epic #1 (Cover A – Kudranski) is a new Image title that Anthony recommended as a good read over on the forums. Probably worth checking out.

Something Epic #1 (Cover A - Kudranski)

I like Bunn’s work so Ghostlore #1 (of 12) (Cover A – Leomacs) might be a nice pickup for the read.
