An email came out shortly after apologizing and asking for the file to be deleted. The information seemed to be only East Coast accounts.
I won’t go into full detail about all that was on the file, but here are the top 15 East Coast Penguin Accounts

The sales data itself isn’t that useful since it doesn’t break down what was actually purchased. It’s just a lump sum amount for 800 East Coast stores for last year for what they were actually charged and the first 3 months this year. The number would include anything purchased including trades, Manga, Little Golden Books, Manga, sticker books and everything else PRH offers that would comprise the lump sum total. It also doesn’t tell you how much any one store actually sold, just what they purchased in total. Stores that say order 10 custom covers a month buying 3 to 5,000 of each would be further up the list but may not be selling much of anything other than those specialty books.
What was missed is that the list is 800 East Coast accounts which implies there are at least 2 other lists for West Coast and Central if not a 4th. Based on that it would be reasonable to assume PRH now has more accounts than Diamond did prepandemic. That implies a significant shift in purchasing aka bad news for Diamond. It also suggests PRH’s free shipping, 60 day terms and same week restock shipping has broadened the reach of comics in general allowing more and more smaller accounts to get back into the business stocking places like drug stores and quickie type marts/spin racks. The gas station around the corner if they choose can now get small orders of Marvel, IDW, Dark Horse, DC trades and every thing else PRH carries shipped for free and at the same discounts the big sellers get. They just have to take a few minutes to place a FOC order once a week. Even items they don’t want to stock can be special ordered in sometimes in as little as 1 business day, almost always less than a week shipped to the gas station for free so it’s all profit for doing so. No risk, no inventory investment if you’re stocking a small selection of weeklies. That should be good for the hobby overall long term increasing the reach and encouraging growth.
