CovrPrice.Com Runners-Up for Week of 8/18/23

As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. The second half of the Top 20.

#11 KNIGHT TERRORS: ZATANNA #2 – CHUMA HILL (1:50) | DC | 2023
Since the introduction of James Gunn as the head of the DCU, DC books have seen an uptick in sales. Their newest event, Knight Terrors, has been going gangbusters, sending some of our fan-favorite heroes to the Nightmare Realm. Combine some of DC’s greatest heroes with a bit of horror, and throw in some high-ratio variants such as this Zatanna gem from Chuma Hill, a hot aftermarket book you may have! We tracked 15 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 112%, with a high sale of $250 for an NM raw copy and a current raw FMV of $127.

#12 TRANSFORMERS #1 – 2023 SDCC – B&W | IMAGE | 2023
One of the lone holdouts from SDCC, this book was highly sought after by generations of collectors at the big con. Those who couldn’t attend have opted to acquire it on the aftermarket. Previously, the colored version of this book was making waves, yet this B&W variant that lagged has stuck around. With Transformers building momentum thanks to the vision of Robert Kirkman and an excellent tie-in with Void Rivals, the community can expect to see more Transformers books such as this on their radar. We tracked 17 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 141%, with a high sale of $1,200 for a CGC 9.9 and a current raw NM FMV of $320.

#13 DWELLINGS #1 – JAY STEPHENS – BLOODY (1:10) | ONI PRESS | 2023
Cartoonist Jay Stephens is back with an all-new ongoing series after more than 20 years, and dang, did he pull out all the stops for this cover. Dwellings is a new ongoing horror anthology series that combines spooky and spectacularly cute. It’s quite the novel idea, and with the resurgence of horror comics as of late, one that is uniquely primed to capitalize on fan interest. It’s from a small publishing house in Oni Press, but that hasn’t stopped momentum from building, leading us to track 15 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 109% with a high sale of $50 for an NM raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $49.

#14 X-MEN #188 | MARVEL | 2006
Recently, September solicitations for Marvel hit, featuring “Children of the Vault #2”. That got folks looking at this book once again, a long-forgotten book that saw the first appearance of the Children of the Vault. They’re finally back and presenting something Marvel heroes desperately need; a massive threat with real stakes. They’re an awesome foil to the X-Men, but it remains to be seen if they can live up to rising expectations! We tracked 13 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 137%, with a high sale of $15 for an NM-raw copy and a current raw NM FMV of $13, a steadily growing number of sales and FMV.

#15 TIMELESS #1 – HUMBERTO RAMOS – MISS MINUTES | MARVEL | 2021
Loki Season 2 is around the corner, with a trailer quietly dropping just weeks ago. Before that, actress Tara Strong confirmed Miss Minutes would return for Season 2, and we caught a glimpse in said trailer. That reignited fan interest in this book, featuring her first cover appearance (along with numerous other first appearances). When it was released, this book was HOT. It remains to be seen if it can achieve that success again, but making it on this list is a good start! We tracked 24 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 83%, with a high sale of $125 for a CGC 9.8 and a current raw NM FMV of $34.

#16 ALL-NEW WOLVERINE #2 | MARVEL | 2015
With all the spec surrounding Wolverine and Deadpool 3 in the past few months, we were bound to see another remnant of the Fox universe pop up. Well, kind of. This book features the first appearance of Honey Badger, a clone of Laura Kinney, or, as some know her, X-23. Rumors have been circulating we could see Laura brought into the MCU, with Honey Badger soon to follow. Albeit, those are just rumors, but wouldn’t it be awesome to see a tag team of the Wolverine and the Honey Badger? Some fans potentially think so as we tracked 12 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 181%, with a high sale of $150 for a CGC 9.8 and a current raw NM FMV of $36.

#17 SPIDER-MAN: REIGN #1 | MARVEL | 2007
The internet sure knows how to highlight a scandal! As noted, Kaare Andrews is returning to the Spider-Man: Reign world with a new series in November, giving this original first issue and its black costume counterpart variant some heat. On top of that, a TikTok influencer recently highlighted the *ahem* indecency Peter Parker experiences in this book. Recalled when it was released, it’s a wonder it ever saw the light of day in the first place. But heck, we saw the same fervor with Batman: Damned #1, and ole Spidey just couldn’t be left out! We tracked 13 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 135%, with a high sale of $149.95 for a CGC 9.8 and a current raw NM FMV of $19.

#18 STAR WARS #43 | MARVEL | 1981
This book features the magnificent first appearance of Lando Calrissian in comics, as well as the 2nd appearance of Boba Fett. Lando is a massive fan favorite thanks to the iconic Billy D. Williams, and the newest bearer of the torch, Donald Glover. Glover and his brother recently confirmed what they’ve been teasing for years; they’re writing a Lando series for Disney+. Boba already got his series, and it appears to be Lando’s turn! We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 211%, with a high sale of $329.99 for a CGC 9.8 and a current raw NM FMV of $53.

#19 ULTIMATE FALLOUT #4 | MARVEL | 2011
Miles Mania has quieted a bit since Across the Spider-Verse, but many fans view it as the perfect time to acquire his first appearance! Miles is a modern juggernaut, commanding high prices and higher levels of attention. If the rumored live-action Miles Morales Spider-Man film ever comes to fruition, he could see even more success! We tracked 21 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 108%, with a high sale of $1,614.05 for a CGC 9.8 and a raw NM FMV of $512.

#20 HULK #1 | MARVEL | 2008
We await confirmation that Harrison Ford will appear as the Red Hulk in the upcoming Captain America film. However, that hasn’t stopped fan anticipation from waxing and waning, as is typical for the market. We saw a rush of sales a few months ago when the last set of photos leaked, and now fans are snagging up some copies while the market for this book takes a nap. If we ever receive an actual depiction of Ford as Red Hulk, look out as this book may Hulk Smash its previous records. We tracked 16 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 107%, with a high sale of $334.99 for a CGC 9.8 and a raw NM FMV of $58. It’s an interesting recent spike, as most talking points of late have featured this book being dragged into the “true” first appearance debate. But that, dear reader, is an analysis for another day!
