Dirty D’s F.O.C. (10/8/23)

Hello again, CHU Nation! It’s another Sunday, and that means it’s time to discuss this week’s FOC books.

Mid-October is approaching, and that means the New York Comic Convention is coming up. And many of you are probably tightening up the wallets in preparation…but have no fear, this week’s FOC is a light one!

Foiled Again!

I swear half the NYCC comic exclusives are foil variants…they are all the rage these days. But there are also a few on this weeks FOC list to talk about….and considering most NYCC exclusive foils are in the $40 range, these seem like a steal for what you get, cover-wise.

Supergirl Special #1 (Cover D – Will Jack Foil Variant)

Not my favorite, but the colors may pop “foil-ized”

Batman Catwoman the Gotham War Scorched Earth #1 (Cover D – Lim Foil Variant)

You know why everyone is picking up this book…”Batman is in this book?”

X-Men #141 (Facsimile Edition Foil Variant)

No week is complete without a Foil-ized facsimile! Issue 142 is on FOC next week…but no foil announced as of yet for that book. Which is disappointing because it would have been nice to be able to order the two together. And I think 142 would make a much better foil. Get your act together, Marvel!

Later Printings

Really there is just one book I’m liking this week as a reprint. IDW started these “white background” covers for Transformers, and I always think they work well. The insignia behind the character is a nice touch as well. So these two I’m picking up.

Transformers #1 (2nd Ptg Cover A)

Transformers #1 (2nd Ptg Cover B)

Potential New Characters

Amazing Spider-Man #37

Gang War is kicking off. This book promises the “scariest new Spidey-Villain in decades.” I’ll believe it when I see it. A ton of variants…but I may still wait for the second print.

Punisher #1

Frank Castle has disappeared…Who is the new Punisher? What put him on his path of vengeance? And when the smoke clears, will he even make it out alive?

Could be a new character/Punisher. I’m guessing he is on Cover A.

Cool Non-Gimmick Covers

Deadpool Seven Slaughters #1 (Secret Artist Variant)

If this cover is supposed to be a “secret” then they didn’t do a good job hiding it. Either way, this one is for those who collect marvel characters who have worn the Guantlet. Is this a first for Deadpool?

Speaking of the infinity guantlet…

A little homage to Infinity Gauntlet #1. Phil Noto does excellent work on this cover. This is Dirty D’s cover art of the week!

Pick of the Week

Star Wars the High Republic #1

Is there any surprise here? A new Star Wars series is always a must pick up, for the story and potential for new characters. There are a few covers, so pick the one you like best. I’m going with A.

That’s it for this week! Enjoy the winding down of Con season and have fun at NYCC if you’re going!
