Dirty D’s F.O.C. (4/14/24)

Happy Sunday everybody! Hope everyone in the 49 US states it was visible in got to see at least a portion of the eclipse this past week.

Yet again we have a pretty quiet week. So quiet I couldn’t even chose a “pick of the week.” So just going to run through a few books I found interesting.

Covers

What if Venom #4 (Rod Reis Variant)

TFAW has this as a Phillip Tan variant, but I believe it’s Rod Reis. Freaky cover that combines Loki and and Venom. Dirty D Cover of the Week!

The world is about to know Zur’s true power! Him and…his new sidekick?

This one could have a first appearance (although I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a cameo in 146). Either way, highlighting this book for the cover. Jimenez has had some good ones in the past, but they were 1:25 incentives typically. Glad this one is open order.

Introducing the ALL-NEW HELLFIRE WARRIORS!

So likely a first appearance of a team, but not necessarily individual characters. I’m assuming the spoiler variant is the new team. So likely the cover to grab as it may be under ordered IF this team gets hot and gets their own series. But don’t put all your chips on it.

(Note: This book releases on 5/29)

Reprints & Facsimiles

No foil option. These aren’t the most memorable covers anyway in this run. 258 is a few issues away, though!

Avengers Annual #10 (Facsimile – Foil Variant)

Rogue’s first appearance in facsimile. Not a great cover for an X-Men first appearance…but getting the foil treatment nonetheless.

First appearance of Sgt Rock in facsimile. No foil variant for this one either.

Deadpool #1 (2nd Printing)

2nd printing of Deadpool #1 (2024). This didn’t seem to get hot, even with a first appearance of a character…This would have been better if the character was on this cover.

This is a bit weird. It’s a “reprint” of the Free Comic Book Day comic coming out just a few days earlier. But since the FCBD version was not offered with other FCBD comic bundles it could be hard to find. So I don’t know what to expect here…

Reads

Maystorm’s origin! Mei Igarashi was a regular girl until she discovered her unusual abilities and her hair changed from brown to white…

Promises the origin of Maystorm. Hopefully it’s not a bust like Spider-Boy’s origin was…  Also, we get what appears to be Ultimate Nico (most known for being a member of the Runaways, if the design variant proves true)

Blood Hunt continues. This is the Red Band edition which is polybagged as it contains more graphic and explicit material than the regular editions.

Indy Spotlight

Danny, a seemingly mundane young man lost in escapism, with a spiraling lack of control over his life, witnesses something during a delivery job that will change him forever, turning things as dark as the black, crocodile skin boots that he can’t take his eyes off of…

Not much stood out to me this week from Independents, but this looks like something different.

Parting Thoughts

Yeah, so no pick of the week or drek. But convention season is around the corner, so for those saving up that’s a good thing.

Have a great week everyone!
