11: WOLVERINE #17 | Marvel | November 1989
John Byrne is a legend in the world of comics. His first works with Marvel included story arcs like Dark Phoenix and Days of Future Past. He is also responsible for creating the super team Alpha Flight and co-created characters like Scott Lang and James Rhodes. Needless to say, Byrne is an enormous part of comic books that many grew up loving. This past month, we have seen many Wolverine and Deadpool covers become popular on the aftermarket due to the soon-to-be-released Deadpool & Wolverine. This cover is classic and a highly desirable one to add to anyone’s collection. We tracked ten copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 58%, with a high sale of $65 for an NM copy and a current FF raw FMV at $16.
12: SPAWN #1 – Todd McFarlane – Regular | Image | May 1992
t’s been a slow news week for comics, and many wallets are grateful. Spawn always emerges during these slow weeks. It is one of, if not the, most popular first issue in comics. Spawn has had a movie in development for years. McFarlane will occasionally take to social media and update fans on the progress. It may be a slow-moving project, but it has made big strides in production, and McFarlane is promising the movie we all dream of for Spawn! We tracked 19 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 2%, with a high sale of $85 for a CGC 9.6 copy and a current NM raw FMV at $30.
13: STAR WARS #42 | Marvel | December 1980
The COVID lockdowns and stimulus checks sent the comic book market soaring. Many grails were out of reach for many collectors. Since then, comic prices have cooled off, and patient collectors have been hunting for bargains. Boba Fett’s first appearance is a huge moment for the Star Wars universe. Fans of The Bounty Hunter have been waiting for the current prices on the aftermarket, and it shows. This past week, we tracked 17 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 9%, with a high sale of $300 for a CGC 9.2 copy and a current VF raw FMV at $103.
14: ULTIMATE FALLOUT #4 | Marvel | August 2011
Although it is a slow news week, rumors still have leaked about the future of Spider-Man 4. These rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, as, even if true, it is still early in the development of the film. According to the leaks, Marvel and Sony have agreed on the storyline’s direction and have reportedly decided that the film’s main villains will be Tombstone, Scorpion, Shocker, and the surprising inclusion of Prowler. Miles Morales’ uncle’s debut in the film caused a big stir. Another leaker reported that Miles would be introduced in the 4th film but was unsure in what capacity. It may be a tease to future storylines with the character or a version from another dimension; who knows? However, these are all very early rumors and hearsay until we receive more information on the project. We tracked 20 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 8%, with a high sale of $1,000 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw FMV at $340.
15: THE AUTHORITY #1 | DC | March 1999
Here’s some wild news: Gunn has stated that Creature Commandos will be a part of the new Superman film. There’s a lot packed into this film already, and this news left some of the fandom confused about how the Creature Commandos will fit into the storyline. Maria Gabriela de Faria is playing The Engineer in the Superman film. Fan theories have speculated that The Authority may be the film’s main antagonist. That theory is enough for many to pick up a few copies of their first issue in their solo series. We tracked eight copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 103%, with a high sale of $52 for an FN copy and a current NM raw FMV at $39.
16: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #300 – Direct | Marvel | May 1988
Venom: The Last Dance debuted its first trailer, and fans were hungry for more! The fandom has not been spoiled with monthly comic book movies like the past couple of years. It gave us all a break and some time to miss the superhero genre. Fans immediately dissected the Venom trailer and began spinning fan theories. This book has become popular as the film has put Venom’s first appearance back on everyone’s radar. We tracked 16 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 21%, with a high sale of $936 for an NM copy and a current NM raw FMV at $574.
17: MARVEL SUPER-HEROES SECRET WARS #8 – Direct | Marvel | December 1984
Symbiote covers are a massive collector’s item for Spider-Man fans. This book had a huge spike in interest after Spider-Man: No Way Home’s after-credits scene teased a symbiote in the MCU. With the trailer of Venom: The Last Dance, we are reminded again of that pivotal moment. Will it be a retcon, or will the latest Venom movie continue the storyline? It is too soon to know, but we’re still hyped for a potential black-suit Spider-Man! We tracked 26 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 5%, with a high sale of $299 for a CGC 9.6 copy and a current VF raw FMV at $131.
18: DOOM #1 – MARIA WOLF (1:25) | Marvel | May 2024
Doom’s popularity continues this week. His first solo series in years has been received very positively. In addition, the book’s subtle tribute to MF Doom has lit the fire under this issue. Since readers discovered the tribute, this book has been a hot ticket item. The 1:25 retailer incentive has been the cover to chase unless a collector is willing to spend nearly $200 for a 1:100 retailer incentive! We tracked seven copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 28%, with a high sale of $40 for an NM copy and a current NM raw FMV at $46.
19: WOLVERINE #1 | Marvel | November 1988
We’re a month away from one of summer’s most anticipated movies, Deadpool & Wolverine. This book is Wolverine’s first solo series and has been moving fast this week. 20: SPIDER-MAN #1 – Regular | Marvel | August 1990
During the slow weeks, we see the return of the aftermarket best of the best. This Todd McFarlane cover is a fan favorite. It depicts the friendly wall-crawler in a more serious tone as if a spider was hunting his prey. Decades later, this is one of Spider-Man’s covers with the most homages in other IPs (aside from Amazing Spider-Man #300). With a slow news week, fans are digging deep into their wishlist and grabbing those books they’ve been hunting down. We tracked 18 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 47%, with a high sale of $16 for a VF copy and a current NM raw FMV at $9.
