RUNNERS UP

11: THE AUTHORITY #1 | DC | March 1999
Ever since James Gunn and co. cast Maria Gabriela de Faria as The Engineer in James Gunn’s Superman, speculation on The Authority has been very popular. We already know that The Authority is set to have its own film in the new DC cinematic universe. However, many are beginning to theorize that we will see the team a lot sooner than their own movie. The latest fan theory involves The Authority portraying the main villain in the upcoming Superman film. This theory has caused the popularity of this issue to gain momentum in the aftermarket. We tracked ten copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 83%, with a high sale of $47 for an FN copy and a current NM raw FMV at $43.

12: TOXIC AVENGER VOL 1 #1 | Marvel | April 1991
The Toxic Avenger is one of those characters you either are a huge fan of or know nothing about. Hardcore fans of this character have been waiting for a follow-up or remake of the 1984 horror-comedy film of the hero. In 2023, fans got their wish when The Toxic Avenger debuted at the Fantastic Fest Film Festival. Released to positive reviews from fans and critics alike, news on the film has since been silent. There aren’t any updates on when/if this film will be distributed for a nationwide release. As fans searched for any news on the film, they ran into an olive branch. Super7 announced that they will be releasing a movie version of the action figure of the Toxic Avenger. Fans are left wondering if this sudden release has anything to do with future news on this project. While we wait, avid collectors have chosen to revisit the book that started it all! We tracked ten copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 50%, with a high sale of $20 for a VF copy and a current NM raw FMV at $15.

13: UNCLE SCROOGE AND THE INFINITY DIME #1 – J. Scott Campbell (1:50) | Marvel | June 2024
Uncle Scrooge would absolutely love that his issue has been making big bucks! This book made waves last week when the Gabrielle Dell’Otto cover made it to the #1 spot last week! The artwork is solid, and the storyline is great. More importantly, this book introduced Scrooge-Above-All in the first Marvel-esque storyline of a Disney character. Given that J. Scott Campbell is one of the most popular modern-day cover artists, it makes sense that we have seen this surprisingly popular book bring forward his cover into the runner-ups this week! We tracked 15 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 44%, with a high sale of $90 for an NM copy and a current NM raw FMV at $71.

14: THE NEW MUTANTS VOL 1 #87 | Marvel | March 1990
Deadpool & Wolverine is this summer’s most anticipated movie. Early box office numbers suggest it could have a record-breaking opening. Many fans hoped we would see the return of Josh Brolin’s Cable in the sequel. However, Brolin had stated early on that he would not be reprising his role as Cable. Even so, Cable still has a bright future in Marvel media. Fans were more than ecstatic to see Cable in X-Men ‘97 and are excited to see the character return for Season 2. We tracked 12 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 37%, with a high sale of $525 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw FMV at $152. Godzilla is a force of nature in most media and also as a collectible! When anyone thinks of monster movies, Godzilla is at the top of the list. The first issue of Godzilla’s ongoing series in the US market has been a fan favorite. However, in this reprint, Bagley’s homage to the cover has struck a chord with many Godzilla fans. This book is also a desired collectible because it is a retailer incentive. A great cover from a great artist with high collectibility has led to 28 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 35%, with a high sale of $30 for an NM copy and a current NM raw FMV at $23.

15: GODZILLA VOL 1 #1 – Mark Bagley – 2024 Facsimile (1:25) | Marvel | June 2024

16: GROMMETS #2 – Alex Riegel (1:10) | Image | June 2024
Last month, we covered the first issue of Grommets when it started making waves in the aftermarket. This month, we’re seeing the same trend with issue #2! This book has captured many readers as a way to look back at the “good ole times.” A time full of nostalgia while also delivering an expertly crafted slice-of-life storyline. As more fans seek to collect this hidden gem, the retailer incentives will become much more desirable. We tracked ten copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 158%, with a high sale of $25 for an NM copy and a current NM raw FMV at $23.

17: THE DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH #23 – Sebastián Fiumara (1:25) | Image | June 2024
The Department of Truth was an immensely popular series by writer James Tynion IV. However, the series took a hiatus back in Nov. ’22. While many questioned whether the series would continue, others anticipated the next issue’s release. That longing was rewarded last week when, after 1.5 years, the next issue of Department of Truth was released! The popularity and anticipation of this series sent fans to the aftermarket, hunting down the retailer’s incentive to add to their collection! We tracked seven copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 10%, with a high sale of $40 for an NM copy and a current NM raw FMV at $34.

18: UNCLE SCROOGE AND THE INFINITY DIME #1 – Gabriele Dell’Otto (1:10) | Marvel | June 2024
This book topped the charts last week! It was a huge surprise to many but quickly became a chase of the week. As more comic book collectors learned of this issue and its key significance to the Scrooge-verse (let’s hope that catches on), the issue soared in the aftermarket. This week, this book lost some momentum, as it was overtaken by the higher ratio cover, illustrated by J. Scott Campbell. Fans of Gabriele Dell’Otto will use this time to secure a copy they might not have been able to secure last week! We tracked 57 copies sold, with a 7-day growth trend of 32%. The high sale price for an NM copy is $16, and the current NM raw FMV is $10.

19: DEADPOOL: MERC WITH A MOUTH #7 | Marvel | January 2010
Lady Deadpool returns! The amount of cameos that are rumored for the Deadpool & Wolverine movie is a bit unreal. It is almost too much to process, and fans have to pick a rumor from the week and chase that until another leak gets released. This week, we’re sticking with Lady Deadpool, whose legs may have been teased in a recent trailer. It won’t be long before all these rumors are confirmed or debunked! We tracked 13 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 23%, with a high sale of $420 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw FMV at $162.

20: ZATANNA: BRING DOWN THE HOUSE #1 – Mikel Janin (1:50) | DC | June 2024
Zatanna is one of DC’s star sellers. Her covers tend to be highly desirable collector items, and this one is no exception. This book is the first of a new series, and it is also a key appearance of a character named “Stranger.” The 1:25 retailer incentive does not prominently feature Zatanna. This cover takes Zatanna and puts her front and center, in a perspective showing her prowess as a magician (or gambler?). We tracked ten copies sold at a 7-day growth trend of 25%, with a high sale of $60 for an NM copy and a current NM raw FMV at $50.
