Wednesdays are always so full of promise. Each Wednesday is like Christmas morning, full of promise and anticipation. This Wednesday is no different. There are plenty of good books to look out for that could heat up in the near future.
1. Pretty Deadly #1 – Kelly Sue Deconnick’s new creator owned book from Image Comics. This one is supposed to be a great book and is getting some good reviews. Really worth checking out.
2. Catwoman #24 – 2nd part of Joker’s Daughter storyline in Catwoman and Third appearance of New Joker’s Daughter. Catwoman 23 sold out, and Joker’s Daughter 3d has been one of the most sought after books in a while. Don’t miss this one.
3. Hellboy: The Midnight Circus GN– Normally I stay away from Graphic Novels for speculation, however, this original story did not appear in floppy format and is not a reprint. It is an all new story. Hellboy is about as popular as it can be, and Mignola’s work is always sought after.
4. The Other Dead #2– First issue sold out. Variant for the book featured Obama holding assault weapons. First issue had conspiracy behind it as September 11th release day was pushed back. All around cool story.
5. Zombie War #1 Zombies are hot. With the return of The Walking Dead TV show drawing comic fans into stores, crossover sales are bound to happen. This book from IDW is written by TMNT creator Kevin Eastman and features art by Heavy Metal artist Eric Talbot. Oversized issue for 1 and 2.
I was actually disappointed in “The Other Dead #1”. The artwork was good but the story was dry and predictable to me. It did not leave me yearning to pick up #2 to read.
I’m looking forward to Velvet #1. You can’t go wrong with Brubaker and Epting as a team of what they did with Captain America. I mean, they actually made Captain America cool if you ask me.
Aside from the political commentary, I thought it read like a remake of Night of the Living Dead. I thought it was interesting and will be picking up the next issue. Plus i am a horror fiend so it sells itself to me.
I agree Velvet is going to be good. Hopefully there wont be a huge print run (which I am sure there will) and not too many variants.
I like zombie books as well. I’m not a hardcore horror junkie but I do enjoy good zombie books. This one just didn’t settle with me. I am however enjoying The Mocking Dead and The Final Plague, besides my love of The Walking Dead of course. 🙂
I also really enjoy the ’68 series. Jungle Jim was entertaining.
Yeah, I only know of the Midtown variant cover B they’ve posted for Velvet which might be a must pickup, Fiona Staples is the cover artist for it.
I am doing my picks of the week and it is high up there. Love Fiona Staples as well I buy just about every horror title that comes out. I missed Final Plague need to seek it out as the fourth book is out soon.

Yeah, 3 is about to hit the shelves and I think 4 comes out in December. Looks like Midtown still has some #1s available, most of my local stores are out and were out quick, only seem to carry about a dozen total each. I think the print run is so low, it didn’t even hit the 1k mark. If someone could find print runs of these, that’d be nice.
I am going to hit my LCS on Wednesday and check on them. You have talked about the series a couple of times and it has piqued my interest. I came across some beat up copies in one of the other stores I hit during the month but they were so beat up (even for shelf copies) I had to pass. I am that guy with the eggs from Clerks when it comes to comic condition. They just have to be perfect or I pass.

I’m the same, I try to pick up as perfect as possible and that’s the other thing I’ve noticed, most seem to be in pretty bad shape new on the shelves. I got 2 first issues that are likely 9.0 – 9.2 condition, I couldn’t find them any better.
