Seems like the Old Man Logan hype has died down and the next Wolverine could in fact be another, more classic story, Weapon X.

Rumors suggest that the 20th Century Fox’s third Wolverine movie will be titled Weapon X. The title would share a name with the secret government genetics research organization from the Marvel Universe that removed Logan’s memories and grafted adamantium to his skeleton, turning him into a feral killing machine. The title was also used for a Barry Windsor-Smith story published in Marvel Comics Presents that showed these experiments for the first time.
The report from GameZone also claims that the film’s title, along with the first bit of footage and a poster, will be revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2016. GameZone learned this information from sources they “assure” us are reliable. Wolverine appeared as Weapon X in X-Men: Apocalypse and the post-credits scene showed the Essex Corporation taking possession of the project’s data, so the title would seem to be a natural follow-up. The film’s villains will be a mad scientist and a corporate executive, both of which would be at home in a film focusing on the shady government organization.
Alana featured the Weapon X books a few weeks back on her Weekend Spec column. Wolverine first appears as Weapon X in Marvel Comics Presents #72. The entire saga runs in Marvel Comics Presents #72-84

Yes, and this is what is funny about ‘movie specs’. The media drive created by movies on pre-existing books/stories make zero sense. This is a perfect example of how people are chasing movie induced fads. Its fine, you and I can flip for a few bucks, but its really dumb.
Chris, and I am not going to disagree with you because I do not disagree, but yes. I do think people are getting tired of the movie drive as there are so many movies coming up and being announced. However, I am really surprised that it took so long for this to be done. Weapon X is a classic storyline that has languished away for so long. I am not even sure new Wolverine fans are aware of the story other than the name so I am glad to see it heat up a bit. It is worth reading.

Weapon X in AOA was a joke, Wolverine wearing a bike helmet having to escape through a single hallway door. My bank is more secure then this secret government weapons facility.
in all fairness, he did get a little help from some young teen x-men….
The new thing seems to be people complaining about movie/tv spec. We should all enjoy the fact that all these things are being optioned and made and enjoy every moment because the alternative is far worse. Also the MCP Weapon X books were massively overprinted. The only book I would look for is the newsstand versions as they can be tough to find.
Great point in the newsstands. People in general like to complain, but truth be told, some of the books do move upon announcements.
