Variety.com is reporting that the long ago optioned adaptation of the comic Aleister Arcane will star Jim Carrey and be directed by Eli Roth.
Copies of Aleister Arcane quickly dried up on eBay. The lowest priced copy on Amazon is $10. not bad for a book that sold for less than cover price today.
Jim Carrey will star in and executive produce while Eli Roth directs the long-in-development horror movie “Aleister Arcane” for Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment.
“Aleister Aracane,” written by Steven Niles, was first published in 2004 by IDW Comics. Jon Croker will adapt for the screen.
Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will produce along with Michael Aguilar.
The story centers on a group of children who befriend a bitter old man ruined and shunned by their parents. After his death, only they have the power to thwart the curse he has laid upon their town.
Variety reported in 2004 that Paramount had picked up the rights and set up the project with Aguilar and Dean Georgaris. The rights eventually lapsed.
The comic book story focused on a local TV horror host Aleister Arcane, who’s forced off the air due to the wishes of parents in an Oklahoma community. In the wake of Arcane’s unplanned retirement, unexplained terror and horror beset the town.
Carrey was most recently seen in 2014’s “Dumb and Dumber To.” Roth’s directing credits include “Cabin Fever,” the two “Hostel” movies, “The Green Inferno” and “Knock Knock.”
Thanks to Alana for the heads up.
Tiny print run of 7,130 copies. Good luck hunting!
Thanks Brian
I know I have a set from when it first came out.
Just ordered a set at cover price from one of my local shops. 🙂
It’s a good book to boot.
Found a set this morning, nm! $10 YAY!
Nice.
Any idea on this ones potential? I managed to grab a copy yesterday for $4.50 and noticed there is only one copy for $100 on amazon and one for $59 that just showed up on Ebay.
They are on the rise due to two fairly big names. Eli Roth is no slouch in the horror industry. Jim Carrey was once one of the biggest names in Hollywood and still draws them in.
