Poyo's Picks of the Week for Sept 21, 2016

New comic book day is upon us once again and every Wednesday it’s like Christmas morning. This week has a lot of exciting new stuff and a bunch of books are hitting the shelves.
DC/Vertigo Pick
Wonder Woman 77 Special #4 (DC) – Not much going on in DC land for me, I think Superman #7 is a pickup for me but the only other thing that stands out is this issue, simply because after 4 decades, Linda Carter as Wonder Woman is just hot and this cover is hot.

Marvel Pick
Civil War II #5 Phil Noto Black Panther Variant (Marvel) – There were a couple of Black Panther variants this week but this one is a knock out. Grab it if you can.

The Image #1 + Spec + Indie Pick of the Week
Yes, this week, Remender has gobbled up 3 categories for me.
Seven to Eternity #1 (Image) – First, it’s a new Remender book. Second, he’s got art from Opena and Hollingsworth. There are 3 awesome covers with a Blank to choose from. So yes, Remender fans will be picking this up and it’s a good gamble for flippers as we all know Remender usually delivers on his stories.
Description – “The God of Whispers has spread an omnipresent paranoia to every corner of the kingdom of Zhal; his spies hide in every hall spreading mistrust and fear. Adam Osidis, a dying knight from a disgraced house, must choose between joining a hopeless band of magic users in their desperat e bid to free their world of the evil God, or accepting his promise to give Adam everything his heart desires.”

The Honorable Mention Indie Pick
Britannia #1 (Valiant) – Valiant has a new book out and it’s set in 65 AD. I love these old Roman Empire type stories. So it’s certainly on my radar to check out. I also like to point out that Valiant’s art in most of it’s books is always spot on.

My Favorite ongoing Pulls this Week
Black Eyed Kids #6 (After-Shock) – Great read.
Rumble #14 (Image) – I love this series. It’s funny, art is great. If you haven’t given this title a chance, do so. John Arcudi’s Rumble is awesome.
Invisible Republic #11 (Image) – Sci-fi with a mix of politics equals a great story. Might not be for all but certainly one of my favorite reads.
Manifest Destiny #23 (Image) – Remember when this book was hot! Well, I think it’s still great and one of my favorite reads. I think the long pause it took hurt it some but it’s been pretty consistent now.
Chew #58 (Image) – Getting closer to the end. That makes me sad but I know this type of story can’t go on forever.
Black Hammer #3 (Dark Horse) – Lemire.. you can’t go wrong with Lemire.
Dept H #6 (Dark Horse) – Matt Kindt is up there on best writers currently.
That’s all I got this week. There’s a bunch more stuff but I can’t list them all, that would be pointless.

    1. My wife would look at me funny if I bought them for her.. my wife only reads Walking Dead and she’s suppose to read Saga but has yet to open it.

      1. My wife did get hooked on Saga. That and Paper Girls are the 2 comics that she’s actually reading. I’ve been getting her the new Wonder Woman books but she’s yet to read them. She’s been a big Wonder Woman fan for years and even has a large Wonder Woman tat on her arm.

  1. For a book that was pretty fairly hyped I am really surprised about Seven to Eternity. I went to two LCS and they each had less than 10 copies total. Called a third and was told they all flew off the shelves before noon. Looks like it was definitely under ordered. Surprising for a Remender book.

    1. My local shop had a nice stack but yeah, didn’t seem to have as many as some other Remender books in the past.
