So a lot of attention has been placed on the Devil’s Hopyard as people try to get copies. The book is doing pretty well, and people on the message boards are definitely talking up the speck potential. But if the book does pop, people will want the first appearance of the characters.
The books in question were solicited as follows:
by Brendan Deneen & Szymon Kudranski Scatterbrain is superhero noir set in Devil’s Hopyard, a bleak and crime-ridden city that’s seen better days. The hero of the book is not the superhero Scatterbrain, himself; but Detective Jack Anderfold, a once-great cop who’s determined to take Scatterbrain down in hopes of regaining his former glory. Artwork from IDW’s Szymon Kudranski (30 Days of Night) teaming up with writer Brendan Deneen. Cover price $3.50.
Sound familiar? One might think this is the solicitation for Devil’s Hopyard, same characters same storyline. But it is for the book Scatterbrain (2006) from Markosia.
Prices are extremely cheap on the copies out there. Most around or under $1. Copies of the 4-issue mini-series can be found on Mycomicshop as well.
These could be of real interest, especially if the unsubstantiated rumors (from the eBay auctions) that this book has some kind of media deal.
Mycomicshop doesn’t have any of Scatterbrain in stock.
They did at 3 am when I posted it. Also so did eBay and they all sold too
As of 9:30 Mile High still has a few copies of 1 cover B in fine condition and some 2 left.
I don’t think that this book has a media deal, but rather the EBay descriptions are referring to this being the pilot issue. If you look at the cover it says pilot issue under the price.
Totally missed that.
From http://comicsheatingup.net/2013/09/11/comics-heating-up-indy-spotlight-mythopolis/ Terry Hoknes did an interview with Rich from Ardenn entertainment who said ” In fact one of the titles I took over to Markosia was Brendan’s really cool Scatterbrain which had serious TV interest and could still be an awesome TV series.” Scatterbrain, is of course, the book that Devil’s Hopyard is a page for page reprint of.
Hey UK. There were copies online on eBay from Mycomicshop and Mile High and a couple individual sellers last night at 3 am when I posted it. Needless to say, they got gobbled up quickly.
My local comic book store had a complete four-issue run with variants of 1 & 2. Picked them up today for cover price.
Can you compare it to the first issue of Devil’s Hopyard and let us know how close it is.
Devil’s Hopyard 1 is a page for page reprint of Scatterbrain 1.
Thanks David. Looking forward to getting my copies so I can read the rest of the story.
So devils Hopyard is a reprint of scatterbrain!?!?! It’s basically a glorified second print. What does that mean for the value of devils Hopyard? Ugh
Looks that way. Was never advertised as such. I think I will be advertising my extra copies on eBay tonight
