I am waiting until my birthday at the end of this month to go see the new Captain America movie. I have been staying away from as many spoilers as I can (it is not working). But one thing is clear, the movie has had a direct effect on the popularity on the comics it is tied to.
Copies of Captain America #6 (2005), the first full appearance of Bucky as the Winter Soldier are doing nicely. They continue to rise even after the release of the movie, which is a very good sign. Comics often drop off after the movie they are tied to comes out, but this one is staying up there. I am sure this is partially due to the 6 picture deal he was signed to.
Six picture deal. Let’s think about that for a minute. The Winter Soldier will most likely return in Captain America #3 as will Chris Evans who currently plays Cap, but what will happen after that. Evans’ contract is almost up, with two movies left (Avengers 2 and Captain 3). So let’s put our speculation thinking caps on for a second and guess where this is going. Most likely we will see a build up to ‘Civil War’ at the end of Avengers 2. Additionally, we will probably see the death of Steve Rogers, just like at the end of Civil War.
Might not be a bad time to get copies of Civil War cheap. If this is the way Marvel studios ends up going, we could see a rise in the series.
Almost assuredly, we will see the Death of Steve Rogers Cap, and most likely at the hands of Crossbones, so, copies of Captain America #25 would probably be a good play as well.
Captain America #34, the first appearance of Bucky Barnes as Captain America, would be worth keeping and holding as well.

Locked and loaded on my Bucky Barnes. CA #2 was the best film Marvel studios has ever put out thus far. The sky is the limit if they keep this up!
I hope so. I cannot wait to see it.
I knew buying the complete Captain America Vol 5 2005 series would pay off one day… 🙂
Issue 1 has a cameo of Bucky and Issue 11 features his origin. All the early issues up until have low print runs too! If Barnes becomes the new Cap the entire run up until 34 is worth owning!
Hey Anthony, do you think the directors cut on 25 & 34 will go up too? Are those considered second print variants? I don’t usually buy those but saw some for cover. As always, good work.
Thanks, I am not sure if they are considered 2nd prints, but they did come out after the original issues were released. I do look at them as re-prints, as a “special edition” as they were released after the fact. Historically, they do not go up as much as the original 1st prints.
