Walking Dead #53 blowing up

The last couple of Auctions for The Walking Dead #53 have been blowing up on eBay over the weekend. Why?

because it is the first appearance of Abraham who shows up in this season. tonight’s episode is the season premier of The Walking Dead season 4. Not sure how pivotal of a character he will be is one of a few new characters that show up on Season 4. Copies are going for $80.

Walking Dead #53
Is going for about half that on Amazon right now until more people think to check it.

  1. Thanks for the reminder, I’ve been keeping my eyes on this issue and now I really should make a move before it blows up in price. Just put a big bid on a NM issue that has about 30 mins left, Hopefully I can get it at around $50 or so where it’s currently at. 🙂

    1. As always good luck. I have been collecting walking dead since issue 1. As of late, I have been buying multiple copies of each issue, mostly due to not knowing when a new character will be introduced to the tv show. Add in a second tv show coming and you never know what will happen.

      1. Yeah, I got late in the game. I got back into comics because of The Walking Dead show. When I walked into a local shop to pick up the Trades to read from the beginning to catch up, it was the first time I’d set foot in a comic book store in probably 20 years. 🙂

      1. I did check them out on Amazon, most at that price claimed to be VF or low NM. One reason I picked the one on eBay was I can see the scanned image of the actual comic I’m getting. Buying from Amazon, you see just the generic stock photo of the comic, not the one you are getting.

  2. Bagged a VF+ / NM copy of WD #53 for $43!

The only other WD book that I have is #27 (intro Gov’na, nm), and the only other issue that I really want is 19 (intro Michonne)…oh well, last time I checked that book was going for $200 +!!!!!

Maybe I could trade a full run nm – 1st print set of Peter Panzerfaust for some early WD material?????

  3. That’s excellent! I was just mainly looking out for ‘movie related’ news on a few books, and PP was in the group that I was scoping at the time. Same deal with my Chew full-set run, as well as my recent full-run set of Thief of Thieves. Just spek’n really. I had the 6th Gun pegged as well; got issues 2 & 3 for cover, but then I read how NBC are notorious for dropping books, so I backed off of getting a few copies of #1 that I had scoped for cover! And sure enough, NBC BACKED OUT OF THE MOVIE DEAL, but the heat on the book never died, per se. So, I had to quickly get back on board and snag a couple of #1’s, but I paid a bit more than I normally would have, but at this time it wasn’t on spek anymore, it was definitely considered a COMICHEATINGUP!

Nice to hear about your full run of WD…GOOD SHOUT THERE!

I’m going to go a bit retro and fill a few of the Bronze and Silver-Age gaps in my collection. That should be fun…AND EXPENSIVE!

My BF #6’s reminded me how cool and classic the artwork was back in the 70’s. I look at all of the ads and stuff in those Bronze-Age books, and I remember all of them, so I had tons of those comics back in the day, but I didn’t keep any of them!

Back in the day, I remember making a conscience decision to either collect Baseball Cards OR Comic Books…I was / am a huge Atlanta Braves fan (shut-it…DON’T EVEN GO THERE!), so I started collecting baseball cards seriously in 1977-78. Yes, I still have all of my cards in my collection…well, all of my cards, except for the ones that my brother CHERRY-PICKED from my collection when I went into the military in 1987. Yep, he took most of them down to the local Trade Day (flea market / swap meet) when I went overseas!

Anyway, I started collecting comics in the early 90’s, so I got all of my older books when EBAY sprang-up in the mid 90’s or so. Before EBAY one had to barter for comics, and purchase them from LCBS or conventions.

Yep, I bought my VF+ Incredible Hulk #181 from an online CBS located in Germany, in 1998…WITHOUT SEEING A PIC! You bought simply on the owner’s ‘opinion’ of the grade / quality of the book back then. The only CGC type grading back then was called….YOUR EYEBALL! hehehehhe

Anyway, good luck to all on everything…sorry COMICFLIPPER, I’M CHEWING-UP YOUR BLOG-SPACE, AND RAMBLING AGAIN!

    1. Always enjoy your rambling. I have a full run of chew as well. Sold all my Thief of Thieves as I was not a big fan.

Still feel like I should have sold my Peter Panzerfausts and Chews and got hardcovers and cash in exchange.

      1. I bought doubles of Thief of Thieves as well, just dumped half so far myself. I almost dropped it, then it sparked some more interest and I’m still hanging on but I stopped buying double issues. I think #1 reached it’s peak. It’s still optioned for a show I believe, at least AMC owns the rights but I don’t think we’ll see anything for a while, if we do.

  4. Speaking of ‘CASH’ in exchange: COMMUNITY I HAVE A QUESTION, AND NEED ADVICE!

I have a chance to purchase a 1st print, NM copy of Walking Dead #1…YEA, THE REAL DEAL! But, the price of this ‘real deal’ is as follows:

    700GBP @ 140GBP per month for 5 months!

So, when converted to $$$$$$$$ it’s:

    ~ $1127 @ ~ $225 per month for 5 months!

THE ABSOLUTE ONLY REASON I’M EVEN THINKING OF MAKING A PURCHASE SUCH AS THIS IS THE GRACIOUS MONTHLY PAYMENT SCHEME THAT THE OWNER IS WILLING TO EMBARK UPON.

My point is: I could EASILY flip $225 worth of comics in a month, SURELY! Or, sell close to that $ amount of my own merchandise per month…there are certainly options to gathering $225 per month for 5 months.

DOWNSIDE: There is no ‘discount’ with this purchase; heck, I THINK THE PRICE IS ACTUALLY A BIT HIGH, BUT THERE YOU GO…IF ONE WANTS A BOOK OF THIS CALIBER, ONE HAS TO PAY THE COS’ TO BE THE BOSS! One may be able to get a WD1 for $1000, but one would more than likely have to come up with ALL the dosh in one go! That’s a bundle of cash to fork over at once!

    OK, WHAT SAY YE’ COMMUNITY?

To be honest, I probably WON’T go through with this deal, but I’d still like to hear what you lot have to say…CHANGE MY MIND FOR ME!

COMICFLIPPER, not to get too personal, but REALISTICALLY, what price / offer would make you part with our MODERN TREASURE: THE WALKING DEAD #1?

Man, I still can’t believe I missed this book in 2003, but I was too busy buying-up LEBRON JAMES ROOKIE CARDS, AND ROOKIE-YEAR HOBBY BOXES THAT WILL UNDOUBTEDLY HAVE CARMELO ANTHONY, DEWAYNE WADE, CHRIS BOSH, AND OF COURSE LBJ ROOKS!!!!!! I WAS ALSO BUYING-UP SWEET MICHAEL JORDAN ROOKS DURING THAT TIME AS WELL!!!!!

Anyway, I digress…, but I could sell ONE OF MY Michael Jordan 1986 Fleer #57 Rookie Cards, Graded Becket 8.5 for ~ $1200 right now……….Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm………..OPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    COMMUNITY?????????

    1. I wouldn’t sell my WD 1 but if someone ponied up $1300 to $1500 Id consider. The book has a low print run, some have long gone by the way side making them even more rare. I really think eventually it will lose value but for the time being the franchise is hotter than it has ever been. In all honest, if I sell it for any thing over $2.99 I make a profit.

  5. That’s what makes you ‘da man…$2.99 that’s insane! Naw, IF I had a copy, there’s no way I would sell either. IF someone offered me $2000 for a copy, I would still ‘think about it’, before I boxed it up and sent it to the sucka!!!!!!

    iT’S ALL GOOD!

I’m going to keep searching…I know there’s one out there that I will run across and snatch-up for a few bucks.

Happy thoughts like that keep me going!

  6. I would spend the money in 5 payments if that is the only way you can afford to get one – even though yes you are overpaying in the long run. But he’s working it like a bank – if you want a loan you are going to pay interest ! Otherwise I’ve seen lots of copies sell for about $900.00 if you just want to buy one outright. The TV show season 4 has begun with record high ratings so the prices of the book are not going to come down this year for sure.

  7. Thanks guys. I’ve only got 1 day left to decide, but I really don’t see myself coughing-up over a grand for a comic! The payment scheme was definitely intriguing, but nawwwww, I don’t think I can pull the trigger.

Oh well, it was a good enough talking point I guess!
