Comics Picks of the Week for 11/13/13

Hey everyone, gearing up for another big Wednesday. Each week hundreds of new comics come out and we pick the ones we think might end up doing well on the secondary market.

1. The Wraith – Joe Hill’s new IDW book. Featuring Stuff of Legneds Artists Charles Paul Wilson III. This is a horror themed Christmas story, which may not appeal to many people, but this book has some things going for it. First, it is Joe Hill, which is a big name creator. Second, it is a stand alone story based off characters he introduced in his books. So we have star power and a cross over audience potential.

2. Unity #1 from Valiant- Normally I wouldn’t put a big event book on here, but there is a cool tie in that goes along with this. The Phantom Variant Network has a blank Phantom Variant coming out, where you can submit your own artwork and possibly win a portfolio review from Executive Editor Warren Simmons. Furthermore, if you tweet the art to @valiantcomics using the hash tag #phantomvariant they will retweet it to their 22k followers plus put it on their tumblr page. The books have to be sent to www.larryscomics.net in order to win the prizes. Pretty sweet contest idea though.

3. Walking Dead #116– All Out War continues in the biggest story line in a while. Walking Dead is always a must pick up for me for not only the story, but the resale value of past issues. You never know when one is going to get big or a character will show up on the show or the planned spin-off show. Alos, this issue is already sold out.

4.Umbral #1– New Image series, said to appeal to fans of Saga. Preview pages looked good. Also sold out before Wednesday’s release.

5. Mainfest Destiny #1– New Skybound Imprint book from Image. Kirkman has had a good record of picking books that end up as tv shows, so I always like to pick up stuff coming from his shop. Oh, the book is sold out before release.

That’s it for me. Let us know what you are speculating on this week.
