Sold Out Comics: Turok Dinosaur Hunter #1

Once a Gold Key Book, then a Valiant, at Dark Horse, and now at Dynamite. The past is important here because of the built in fan base that helped Turok Dinosaur Hunter sell out before it’s 2/5/14 release.
There is a print run of 37,000 copies, but they are spread out among the numerous variant covers on this book.
Still, not bad for the launch of Dynamite’s line of old Gold Key books.
The covers are as follows:

Cover B Subscription Variant by Jae Lee
Cover C Blank Variant
Cover D rob Liefeld Variant cover
Cover E Midtown Comics Shared Variant

    1. If there are only 25 of something they are pretty rare. Midtown has them for $85. My problem with them is they are a manufactured collectible but I imagine that you could flip them for more. It just depends on who the demand is. It’s a toss up because you won’t be able to wait and see.

  1. That’s just too many variants. I liked Turok back in the day but I’m likely going to pass. I might see if they’re suitable for my 8 year old as he’s a dinosaur lover, that’d be the only reason I likely pick these up.

  2. I also liked Turok back in the Jim Shooter / Barry-Windsor-Smith (BWS) Valiant days, BUT THIS IS RIDICULOUS! 21 Variant covers?
There is NO WAY that I’m getting involved in this Gimmick-ridden mess…NO WAY!
And let me tell you, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE JAE LEE’S ART. I’ve still got his first professional work on Namor #26 (1992). His ‘actual’ first work for Marvel was on the serial MCP #85-92 (1991), but it’s not really recognized by the comics community as his 1st professional work…don’t know what gives there?
Anyway, I would love to have a copy of his Cover ‘R’ virgin variant, but I’m not paying $85 or it. If I can get one for $25 or less, I’m in, but it would not be for flippin’, just nice Jae Lee art!
Does anyone know if he is related to Jim Lee? I just remember how Jae Lee just showed up in the 90’s, seemingly out of nowhere…just wondering if perhaps Jim Lee put in a good word???

    1. Don’t think so. The last name “Lee” from Korea and China is the equivalent to America’s “Smith”, there’s a lot of them out there. Also, they look nothing alike if you ask me. 🙂

      1. Yea, I’m sure you’re right…Like Smith and Jones I guess!
OK folks, I broke down and got 2 copies of Ms. Marvel #1. I know I said that I probably wouldn’t, but my local had a few extra copies, so what tha heck! I’ve been snaggin’ Captain Marvel 14 & 17’s as well! I agree that her cameo in 14 was a deliberate placement for things to come. So, let the debate rage, will 14 or 17 be her first appearance?
Also, I picked up 2 issues of The Joker’s Daughter! I’m going to read it as soon as I finish this post, and BI-JILLY if the story is still shizznit, I’M DONE WITH DC…AGAIN! Actually, the cover looks pants anyway, so I’m not overly excited about reading it.
It’s a one-shot, and there’s a different writer (M. Bennett), but the story idea seems to be the same as CW 23-24. I’m still not sure where they were going with the story in the JD 3D book!
I’m going to see this Joker’s Daughter’s ride through to the finish, but I don’t have high hopes for the content anymore.
Ok, here we go, page one…It was a dark and rainy night….hahahhaha that’s not the opening line…actually, it’s probably better than what’s in the real story!

      2. Officially it should be #14 as first real experience, especially since the writer and artist claim that it’s her in the book.
The first full appearance will likely be #17.
I noticed that #17 are harder to find while #14 wasn’t (I picked up 4 from Midtown at their usual online discount price from cover), probably since most were told about #17 before DeConnick mentioned she was in #14 (most likely wouldn’t even think or know it was her until the writer mentioned it). #17 seems to be selling well, I picked up 4 at $6.00 or so.
I did pick up a Ms. Marvel #1 though to check out, I’ve heard so far that it’s pretty controversial, like a reference to “brown people” in it, etc. It seems that Marvel has a bunch of bigot followers on it’s Facebook feed, who’d think there’d be a bunch of racists out there spattering hate over a comic book character.

      3. “Officially it should be #14 as first real experience”.. experience = appearance.. not sure what my fingers were doing, they have a mind of their own when I’m typing and thinking.. 😉

  3. oops, I forgot to send the last post before I started reading: Batman: Joker’s Daughter!
I’m done reading now, and the verdict is:
WHAT A LOAD OF COBBLERS, AS THEY SAY IN THE UK!
OMG, what a waist of 20 mins of my life! The only good part about the whole book was the intro of a new character that could actually be pretty interesting in her own book. I won’t spoil anything for those of you that will sacrifice your hard-earned time to read this book!
Dang, I BOUGHT TWO OF THESE!
It’s all just my own personal opinion, BUT I DID NOT LIKE THIS BOOK AT ALL! Still just vague and meaningless, and certainly going nowhere. I can see where the writer is trying to take this story, but it’s just boring, and ridiculous, and repetitive, and did I say…BORING??????
Maybe if someone else can write this story to actually make sense, and have some sort of continuity and meaning, MAYBE, JUST MAYBE THE MANTRA OF THE JOKER’S DAUGHTER WILL STICK, but with garbage like this..NAW, I’M DONE WITH THE JOKER’S DAUGHTER!
Does anyone want to buy 2 VF+ issues of Batman Family #6…CHEAP!!!!!!!!!
    UK

    1. I didn’t even bother picking up one myself, I almost did but when I saw the cover, I figured it would have been sort of blah and repetitiveness from the 3D issue..
