Insect Bath #1 Price Increasing

Not sure if you saw my picks of the week this week, as there were 2 posts. The first one covered a lot of the normal type books I would cover. The second one covered an odd-ball Fantagraphics book called Insect Bath #1.
Insect Bath #1 is a lo-fi, DIY feel book, much like the indies you could find in the 90’s. It is not for everyone. I have read it and it is odd. Very surreal, quirky horror. Also, not a big print run, Fantagraphics doesn’t do extremely big prints.
Well, the early copies I had linked to sold quickly. And then there were none. But the word got out and more copies of Insect Bath #1 have been listed. The listings are now going for $12.99 to $14.99.

  1. Prices not heating up. There are only 3 sellers on Ebay as of now.
I have seen no high demand for this title.
There is not much talk about this comic book. On the Web anyways.
I’ll see in a month if the prices pass the 25 dollar mark.
    It is nothing like Dredd:Underbelly.
Now that comic book passed the 35 dollar mark in it”s first week.
    Just my thought, thank you.

    1. Seems most of the sold listings on eBay are all around retail price. I picked up some in hopes to flip, looks like I might be eating them unless they pick up steam.

    1. Hopefully, once retailers are out, they’ll resort to eBay.. I can only hope, I’ve accumulated 5 copies so far (well, 3 were purchased directly from their website so waiting on them to ship now). 🙂

      1. I think it is the same thing with Farlaine, the publisher has copies they are selling directly so it could hold it back. The big problem is many people will not “get” the book. Not entirely sure I got it myself.

      2. I ordered 2 from Midtown which already sent me confirmation of shipment. My direct order from Profanity Hill has already sent me a shipped confirmation email receipt as well. So it looks like I’m stuck with my 5 copies ordered.

      3. True, even a couple bucks over cover would be nice to pay off the shipping/handling original costs since I didn’t buy locally.

  2. bought 2 copies my self direct from thier website to,not going to buy any more until i see significant movement on the secondary market

    1. I haven’t received my copies as of yet, but i bought em from midtown along with a few Devils Hopyard copies. thing is most people probably dont know about the book. Remember people, it doesn’t have to be first week skyrocket to be a great spec, it helps but honestly most books usually pick up steam about a week later when word gets out.

      1. I agree. I do love when they pop up the first week (Dredd Underbelly last month, Bunker this month) but I will take gains over a short or long period of time. I see a lot of people say, “I will worry about it when it hits $25.” I will not turn down a $10-15 flip. I make a ton of sales off books in this price range. Sure i love the $25+ but will not turn down a profit of any kind

  3. sorry but ppl listing this book at 12 or 13 bucks and it selling for that are two totally different things here. this book is barely selling for cover. i can list youngblood #1 for 100 bucks all day on ebay, doesn’t mean it’s a 100 comic now. sorry man, but this is a pet peeve when pp do this. i realize you are trying to create hype and a market for yourself since you obviously invested in this book, but be at least be honest about it dude.

    1. What is a pet peeve of mine Mike is when people come on and make baseless accusations of me trying to fix the market on a certain book. If you check my eBay auctions (on the main page there is a link) you can clearly see that I do or have any copies listed currently, nor do I have any recently closed auctions. Also, no where on this site have i offered copies for sale. Furthermore, I would not have said in the post that this book is to for everyone. If I was trying to corner the market, or was heavily invested, I would have been preaching from the pulpit to run out and buy 10 copies, with a link directly to my eBay auctions (which, I remind you, there are none for this book.)
You are correct that there is a difference between an asking price and a selling price. Part of the problem on certain small press books is the publisher has copies of the book for sale on their website. This is the case with this book. They are selling them at cover. This info has been posted on this site, which, if as you inferred I had been heavily invested, would make no sense as it would cut into potential profits.
As with all posts on this site, I do research, am contacted by retailers, eBay sellers, readers, comic professionals, and other people who point to something and say “hey, check this out.”
Sorry if you feel that I have a conflict of interest, which is completely inaccurate, and was a baseless accusation, but I point to tons of books on this site that I may not own, nor am I selling. I do try to maintain integrity to the information and only have one link to my auctions, which I would be a fool not to since, well let’s be honest (as you have accused me of being dishonest) this is my site.
Please feel free to contribute constructively to the conversation on the site, feel free to offer tips or a “hey check this out”, but due try to stay away from coming on here and accusing me of being dishonest.
