2000 AD issue sells out for the first time before release

Another book to be on the look out for this week while you are picking up you comics is 2000 AD Prog 1874.

Bleedingcool.com ran a story that issue 1874 of the long running British comic, 2000 AD, has sold out before its Wednesday release. Not uncommon for some books, except this has never happened with a 2000 AD book before. The series has been running since 1977 without ever being sold out at the distributor level before. Prog 1874 is a jump on issue, which makes it approachable for new readers.
There is a Judge Dredd story in it. If you remember recently the sell out and price jump in Dredd Underworld, this could be a repeat. Not sure on what the average print run is on 2000 AD but I would imagine that many of the copies are kept for distribution in the UK and fewer copies make it to the Americas. While this is no guarantee, it is something to definitely keep on your radar and might be worth the gamble of a few bucks.

  1. As usual, thanks for the tip!
I’ll turn over a few ‘retailer’ rocks here in the UK, and see what I can come up with.
    I’ll post my findings.
    UK

  2. So, five new stories, five new strips, and most interesting TO THE UK POPULOUS, two strips completely new to everyone, and the comic!
    DREDD IS BACK!
Below is a preview from a Forbidden Planet writer:

Is that enough HYPE to get this book some love? It has sold out at distributor level for the first time since 1977! Hmmmmmmmmm!
Well, just because I can…I’M IN! I started slow, and grabbed x6 NM copies for cover price.
I’ll just hold, and see if anything pans out for these books.
I’m trying to find the 2000 AD publisher’s to ask about print run numbers, and how many actually got distributed across the pond.
    Will post my findings!
BTW, I totally HATE the format of these 2000 AD books! You can’t bag and board them as normal, as they are a European-standard A4 print size.
Case in point, I just nabbed a VF+ / NM, MARVEL PREVIEW #2 (May, 1975) – 1ST EVER ORIGIN OF FRANK CASTLE: THE PUNISHER & & & THE 1ST COMIC BOOK APPEARANCE OF DOMINIC FORTUNE, for 20 GBP (~ $32)!
Below is a current EBAY pull on this HOT – 1st Frank Castle (Punisher) Origin book that not too many folks are up on right now:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xfirst+punisher+origin&_nkw=first+punisher+origin&_sacat=0&_from=R40
Anyway, my point is / was, this Punisher book has a Large format print as well, (magazine-size) and it won’t fit in a normal-sized comic box. But the cover is waaay cool, so I have it on display right now. Sort of like the Mondo book that has a Peter Panzerfaust Preview.
    L8tr,
    UKPONDSIDE,
    …Peace!
